2015 Domaine de Bila Haut "Les Vignes de Bila Haut" Côtes du Roussillon Villages

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The jaw-dropper in the lineup was the quality of the 2015 Haut Cotes de Roussillon Villages les Vignes de Bila Haut. While the entry level wine from this estate, the quality here is incredible, especially at the price point. Made from 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Carignan from a mix of the estate’s terroirs, aged in concrete tanks and stainless steel, it offers a rich, concentrated and serious feel to go with fabulously pure notes of blackberries, black raspberries, crushed rock and melted licorice. Thick, unctuous and luxuriously textured, this will ...Read More »

2015 Quartz Reef "Bendigo Single Vineyard" Pinot Noir Central Otago (Biodynamic) (Elsewhere $40)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium ruby-purple in color, the 2015 Pinot Noir exudes gorgeous violets, red roses and black cherry notes with underlying Provence herbs, dusty earth and cinnamon stick hints. Medium-bodied, the palate has a firm backbone of ripe, velvety tannins with lively acid supporting the concentrated, multi-layered flavors, finishing long. Spectacular Pinot Noir! Allimant Laugner Cremant d'Alsace Rosé

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Based on Pinot Noir the NV Crémant d'Alsace Rosé Brut has a very pale color with just a hint of rosé. Very delicate fruit aroma with hints of red berries and flowers on the very subtle, fresh and elegant nose lead to a full-flavored and quite expressive palate. The wine is quite powerful and fruit intense but in a discreet and elegant way. Firmly structured but provided with fine bubbles and an aromatic aftertaste there is really finesse in this very well-made and distinctive sparkling wine. Still very young though. Deutz "Brut Classic" Champagne

91 points Wine Spectator: "A bright, creamy and well-knit Champagne, with a smoke-tinged, minerally underpinning and flavors of lemon meringue pie, biscuit and candied ginger. The spiced finish lingers. Drink now through 2019. (AN)" (11/2016) 90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "A full complement of toasty, autolyzed yeast moves to center stage here, yet this creamy, finely bubbled offering comes with a quiet undercurrent of mildly apple-like fruit as well. The result is a fairly friendly, moderately rich, easy-to-taste Brut that, while properly dry, is not in the least austere, and, when measured against its many non- ...Read More »

2013 Hall Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa, which is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 6% Merlot, and 3% Syrah, shows a dense ruby/purple color, super concentration, chocolate, a touch of oak and a medium to full-bodied impressively concentrated style. It’s approachable now, but perhaps will be better in 4-5 years and last 20. Hall has quickly become one of the great superstars in the Napa Valley firmament. Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Noirs Carneros Sparkling Wine

90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star, Good Value* This engaging, nicely crafted Blanc de Noirs does an exceptionally nice job at being fruity and fresh and moderately yeasty all at the same time. It smacks mildly of juicy cherries while showing plenty of creamy autolysis and is enlivened by perky acidity and a full, frothy mousse. It stands out from its similarly priced, large-production cousins and is an out-and-out steal when found at a discount as it routinely is." 2015 Andre Ostertag "Vignoble d'E" Riesling Alsace (Biodynamic)

Kermit Lynch has called André Ostertag a revolutionary winemaker, saying: "There is poetry to Ostertag’s practices. He looks for the nuance of terroir rather than the typicity of a grape varietal. In an act of rejection against the official classifications dictated by the A.O.C., he made up his own categories: Vins de Fruit that express fruit character rather than that of a specific vineyard site, Vins de Pierre reflecting the terroir from which they originate and Vin de Temps that rely on time and weather to encourage the development of botrytis. On the palate, it's plummy and mouthwateringly tart, with a just-bitter-enough finish that shows dried herbs, sarsaparilla and espresso. (KN)" (11/2016) K&L Notes: Time to up your Manhattan game? Gloria Ferrer "Sonoma Brut" Sparkling Wine

90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "**Good Value** It may be that its fairly high percentage of Pinot Noir affords this impressive non-vintage Brut with a sense of substance and depth not usually found at the price, or it may be the wine's ample autolyzed richness does the same. Either way, the wine is long on character, all of which is quite good. It has a fine, creamy feel, and an insistent stream of small bubbles with lengthy flavors to match, and it is made all the more attractive yet by its reasonably modest price."
