2014 De Braude, Haut-Medoc $18.99
94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has a dense opaque purple color, a kiss of blackberry and cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel with ripe tannin and a long finish. It is very Caymus in its immediate accessibility, but has plenty of staying power and depth. This is lush, full, intense and pure. Drink it over the next 15 or so years. (RP)" (12/2016)
90 points James Suckling: "A compacted red with dried-cherry, toasted-oak and coffee-bean aroma and flavors. Full body with firm, silky tannins. Drink now." (2/2016)
93 points James Suckling: "Serious red with plum, currant, walnut and stone aromas and flavors. Full-bodied yet tight and reserved. Silky and firm tannins. A wine with tone and character. Better in 2020." (5/2016) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a big, lush, juicy wine with grip and a fully-formed body, accented with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. A great deal for the quality, it’s well made and deeply satisfying in highlights of coffee, cedar, mocha and blackberry, girded by a firm structure." (8/2016) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa is a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cab ...Read More »
Montalcino's most famous single vineyard is the Montosoli hill, Altesino made this name famous when they designated their best Brunello with their northeastern-facing vineyard's name, Montosoli. Nello Baricci and his family have lived and farmed Sangiovese on their southeastern-facing slope of the Montosoli hill since the 1930s. Their wines are pure, supple, lithe and complex; they are full of tobacco, sweet earth, licorice, violets, rosemary and have long and persistent finishes, as evidenced in this fantastic Rosso, meant to drink now and over the next... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The wine does not go through malolactic fermentation, and the aim is to produce pure varietal fruit with virtually no oak in the formula. The 2013 is a beauty with notes of flowers, white peach, honeysuckle and a touch of tropical fruit. It is crisp, elegant, medium-bodied and, as promised, very pure. (RP)" (10/2015) Vinous: "The 2013 Chardonnay is a fabulous wine for the money. Lemon oil, white flowers and white pepper are all laced together in an impeccably balanced, layered Chardonnay long on class and personality. The 2013 is a blend of fruit from vineyards in ...Read More »
Wine Enthusiast: "Fragrant blue flower, tilled soil and wild berry aromas lead the nose. The light-bodied, accessible palate offers tart cherry and a hint of chopped herb. It's fresh and easy drinking, with loose-knit tannins. (KO)" (12/2016) K&L Notes: Affectionately named "Catzilla" by our staff because of the seemingly oversized orange cat adorning the label, the Baccinetti hails from south slope Montalcino vineyards adjacent to Lisini. The Baccinetti family has worked their family farm south of Montalcino since 1935, but 2004 was their first vintage of estate-grown wine. Planted ... Read More »
94 points James Suckling: "An subtle nose with plenty of fine autolysis aromas of fresh bread and sweetly fragrant yeasty notes, plus some gentle spice and chalky notes. The palate unleashes beautiful wild strawberry fruit flavors, super fresh, fleshy and pure. Great balance and depth." (7/2015) 93 points Wine Spectator: "A lovely rosé in an almost vinous style, with mouthwatering acidity and a fine, lacy mousse carrying appealing flavors of ripe raspberry, white cherry fruit, star anise, mandarin orange peel and honeysuckle. Lightly chalky on the lasting finish. Enjoy with food. Drink now through 2020. (AN) ...Read More »
93 points Wine Spectator: "Firm and refined, with baby powder—like tannins around the raspberry, strawberry, peach skin and hibiscus notes. Comes together harmoniously on a sleek and transparent frame, finishing long. Best from 2018 through 2024. (HS)" (2/2017) 92 points James Suckling: "Aromas of strawberries, flowers and watermelon follow through to a medium to full body, fine tannins and a bright and fruity finish. A beauty" (11/2016) K&L Notes: From the winery: A laudable glimpse of the Willamette Valley's finest offerings, our Reserve Pinot Noir is truly a celebration of balance. 94 points Whisky Advocate: "An old classic, but how do the newest bottlings fare? Rich, chewy, slightly oily texture. Deep peat, thick smoke, iodine, brine, charcoal, seaweed, tea (Earl Grey, Lapsang Souchong), and the aromas of a summer barbeque. Vanilla and light caramel soften the intensity, while subtle citrus fruit teases. Powerful, yet polished and seamless. After all these years, this whisky is still one of the finest standard-issue peaty, smoky whiskies! (Vol. 20, #3)" 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Best Buy* Soy sauce, olive brine, peat, honey, oloroso Sherry, brewer’s yeast, bread dough, barley malt and ...Read More »
Château Haut-Vigneau is owned by Eric Perrin, the son of the late Anthony Perrin of Château Carbonnieux fame. This property is one of the best value reds in all of Bordeaux. (Clyde Beffa, K&L Co-Owner and Bordeaux Buyer)
92 points James Suckling: "Flamboyant and concentrated red in an old school way. Full-bodied and very velvety. Big and juicy. Needs time to soften and come together but some may like its full-throttle style now." (1/2016) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Faust 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon comes largely from vineyards in southern Napa Valley’s Coombsville and Atlas Peak, but also includes some cross-AVA material from areas such as Yountville, Mt. Veeder, St. Helena and Rutherford. It is a well-made, ripe, concentrated, deep ruby/purple-colored Cabernet Sauvignon with sweet tannin, an attractive, cedary, licorice-infu ...Read More »
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Bringing together multiple sites in one wine, this provides a fine example of the sum equalling more than the parts. Well balanced and crafted, it offers aromas of sandalwood and smoked meat that contrast with more exuberant, textured layers of black cherry and citrus peel. (VB)" (2/2017) 90 points Wine & Spirits: "Sourced from vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley, including Hallberg and Galante in the cooler Green Valley AVA, this is a refreshing and mouthwatering pinot noir with the crunchy, tart flavor of blackberries growing in the shade. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A straightforward, dark plum/garnet-colored effort, the 2001 Labegorce reveals smoky, earthy elements intertwined with cherries, plums, and cedar. Medium-bodied and elegant...(RP)" (6/2004) Wine Enthusiast: "Huge investment is paying off at Labegorce. And it has not resulted in a wine that is simply modern in style. For here the new wood is well integrated, the fruit is structured, and never too extracted, and the ripeness also has layers of Bordeaux dryness. (RV)" (6/2005) Wine Spectator: "Soft and simple, with plum, coffee and light tobacco character. Medium body. Silky finish. (JS) ...Read More »
Much of the fruit for this luscious red comes from Simi's Red Fan and Los Amigos estate vineyards in Alexander Valley, with the remainder sourced from across Sonoma. The 2013 growing season was particularly friendly to red grapes, allowing them to develop concentrated, elegant flavors and bright acidity. Tasting notes for the 2013 vintage from the winemaker: "Deep garnet with a ruby edge, our 2013 Sonoma County Merlot has rich, dark notes of blackberry and plum with cocoa, nutmeg, and earthy hints of cedar and bay laurel. Smoky bacon notes frame bright f... Read More »
Sure to be another winner this summer is the new Pinot Noir rosé from our friends at TWR. Once again we have purchased every case we could get our hands on of this tiny production wine with a total of 105 cases produced! This year the wine is sourced from a single hillside block of the Rawiri vineyard in Marlborough’s Omaka Valley. Saignée style, fermented all in stainless steel at cool temperatures to retain lifted floral aromatics and bright berry flavors. Some time on fine lees helps build texture and a savory complexity; ripe, juicy acidity keeps the... Read More »
Domaine Ott has been a pioneer in rosé since 1912. This graceful blend is 75% Grenache and 25% Cinsault and Syrah. From the winemaker: "BY.OTT is a new wine produced with all the savoir-faire of the Domaines Ott team in the newly constructed cellar of Château de Selle. It is a refined and elegant wine for any rosé enthusiast. The blends originate from select vineyards in Cotes de Provence that have been chosen to ensure that the wine is characterized by fruit and freshness with added finesse and complexity."
Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A subtle but not invisible touch of wood sets off the pretty and fresh aromas of various orchard fruits, and in particular white peach and pear. There is fine volume for a wine at this level to the round and seductively textured flavors where a hint of citrus adds a bit of lift to the acceptably complex and persistent finale." (6/2016) Wine & Spirits: "Warm and leesy, this has the textural weight and body of a Rhône wine and some musky green flavors. Serve it well chilled with boudin blanc." (4/2016) Wine Enthusiast: "This is a ripe and soft wine with pure apple and citrus fruit. It is crisp, ...Read More »
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "The aromas of cedar, fresh dark berries, thyme, garden herbs and flowers provide instant appeal, with woodsy accents following. (12/2016) 93 points Vinous: "(aged for 26 months in French oak casks) Bright ruby. Fresh red berry, cherry, mocha and floral scents are complicated by suggestions of cola and vanilla. "Year in and year out one of our best values in Pinot Noir. If you don't believe me, just ask any K&L customer." (Illya Haase, K&L Staff Member) This wine comes to us from Sonoma County's Martin Ray Winery, owned by Courtney Benham (creator of the Blackstone brand). This multi-county blend of Pinot Noir has been well-received in recent years, earning consistent praise for the solid varietal character it delivers at a modest price.
92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This remains quite fresh with its cool nose of apple, citrus and exuberant yeast elements that continue onto the crisp, intense and energetic flavors that terminate in a saline-inflected, wonderfully complex and beautifully well-balanced finale. In contrast to some '90s today, this is still in terrific shape and should continue to hold if not improve for years to come. In a word, lovely." (10/2015) 92 points James Suckling: "This famous Yellow Label is is in great shape with a really fresh and complex integrated feel to it from head to toe. The nose has plenty of lemon and grapefrui ...Read More »
This Champagne is made entirely from selected grand cru estate fruit from the village of Mesnil. It is fermented and aged in 600-liter new-oak casks before being bottled and aged four years on the lees. It has a super-rich nose of vanilla, sourdough toast and Mesnil minerals. In the mouth it is very racy and dry, not nearly as broad as the rich nose suggests. I think this is one of the ultimate lobster Champagnes in our stock, and will repay five years of cellaring with a gorgeous drink. If you love Selosse's Origine and Tarlant's Cuvée Louis, this is on... Read More »
An organically farmed, naturally made Grenache-Cabernet blend from Aubais, a small medieval village south of Nîmes. Winemaker Mark Haynes may be many things: entrepreneur, winemaker, tango dancer; but there is one thing that he is not--conventional. Mark is a spirited man who came to winemaking late in life when he realized that so many producers in the Gard region were turning their backs on winemaking and farming. The region is in the south of France about 30 minutes from Nîmes. It was his summer home in his childhood and he always had a fondness for i... Read More »
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "The nose barely hints at the subtle joys contained in this concentrated, fresh but generous wine. Ample fruit-think yellow pear and yellow plum-is held at the core, tightly corsetted by fresh citrus. Full of verve, savoriness and joy. (AK)" 91 points Wine Spectator: "A powerful and savory white, with concentrated green peach, apple and white cherry flavors, accented by sage and white pepper notes. Lemon curd and chamomile details show on the finish. Drink now through 2020. (KM)" (9/2016)
A lovely nose of apples, citrus, tropical fruits and dusty gravel. This is a bright and energetic wine that also carries good texture and finishing length. Very well balanced from start to finish, making for a well-focused drink while retaining a higher quality level. Made from 35-year-old vines planted in sandy clay soils. After harvest the fruit is allowed to rest on its skins for a bit longer in order to extract a bit more aromatic and palate complexity. Fermentation is low and slow and done in 100% stainless-steel tank. The wine is then allowed to re... Read More »

Medium-bodied, the palate provides a great concentration of complex savory / earthy, red and black berry flavors with a solid structure of firm, ripe tannins and li ...Read More »
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A top-notch effort from proprietress Helene Garcin, Haut-Bergey’s 2004 exhibits an evolved, cedary, smoky, tobacco, and sweet cherry-scented bouquet offered in a medium-bodied, supple-textured style. (RP)" (6/2007) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red-ruby. Sexy, rather wild aromas of roasted raspberry and game. Supple but firm-edged, with good grip to the raspberry and mineral flavors. There's good fruit here but limited fat and a restrained sweetness. (ST)" (6/2007) Wine Spectator: "Aromas of blackberry and light tobacco. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium finish. (JS, Web-2007)"
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Best of 2016* The newest blended whisky offering from Hibiki is burnished gold in the glass and has a bold aroma that mixes vanilla, fresh pear and a hint of smoke. The smokiness comes forward at the first sip, wrapping around a core of oak and vanilla custard and finishing long, with a mouthwatering bitter chocolate note. (KN)" (3/2016) 90 points Whisky Advocate: "Poised and complex, with typically lifted fruitiness: strawberry ice cream, pineapple, peach, balanced by delicate oak, bamboo shoot-like delicacy, then lemon. The palate is more rounded than that very forward nose, with ...Read More »
Our second vintage of this DI Albariño, this wine shows everything we like in the grape: hints of lemongrass, lively stone fruit and a brisk, saline tinged palate. Located in the sub-zone of Condado do Tea, where the days are a bit warmer and evenings are slightly cooler, there is a wonderful mid-palate presence to complement the typically lean and mineral qualities of Albariño. A classic with any shellfish, especially Dungeness crab!
A blend of 60% Syrah, 10% Cinsault and 30% Grenache, the unusual indigo-colored bottle is utilized as a UV filter in order to maintain the wine's fresh profile for as long as possible. Made with an unusually high attention to detail for a rosé, the grapes were hand-harvested into small bins before being carefully sorted in the gravity-fed cellar. The is a delicious and sensual rosé with an exotic perfume of candied violets, lilies, and strawberries.
Stephane Vedeau is the proprietor/winemaker behind critical darling Les Fermes du Mont. In 2010, Vedeau added Clos Bellane from the Côtes du Rhône-Village Valreas to his portfolio. Valreas is the northernmost of the Village level Côtes du Rhônes and Stephane's vineyards sit above 400 meters. This cooler climate and higher exposition lead to bright and vibrant Rhone wines that challenge the notion of big and jammy southern French reds. These are fresh fruit filled and harmoniously balanced wines. The Petite Bellane is young vines Syrah produced using... Read More »

In addition to collaborating on four acres of fruit in Brouilly, Michel and Robert Perroud took over their father's winemaking estate in Colgny, a family tradition that goes back seven generations all the way to the French Revolution! Over time they've made a few changes to that family legacy, investing in new rootstock, planting additional varietals like chardonnay, pinot noir, and viognier, as well as making a committed effort to organic and sustainable farming. All their young vines are either organically farmed or under organic conversion and all the... Read More »
This exceptionally small estate sits above Tenuta di Sesta (sopra means "above" in Italian) on Montalcino’s south slope, but with this small bit of elevation you reach an outcrop of galestro, a marine-based exfoliating shale that gives the most profound Sangiovese.
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Brewed with Citra and Mosaic hops, this IPA is wonderfully fragrant. It leads with a mélange of fruit aromas: mandarin orange, ruby-red grapefruit, passion fruit, mango, pineapple and papaya. Those notes carry through to the medium-weight palate, supported by flavors of bread dough and lightly caramelized malt. A dank stickiness adds depth to the palate and length to the finish." (9/2013) K&L Notes: A juicy citrus and grapefruit flavor profile. As if fresh Citra and Mosaic hops were squeezed straight into the bottle.
90 points Wine Spectator: "This balanced Champagne is ripe and juicy, with crème de cassis and Honeycrisp apple fruit flavors accented by details of honey, smoke and biscuit. A fresh and creamy aperitif. Drink now through 2018. (AN)" (11/2016) Connoisseurs Guide: "Fairly light in most every aspect and leaning in the direction of a Blanc de Blancs, this slender, crisply balanced bottling comes with scattered touches of minerals and chalk but is essentially reserved and restrained. 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice and #14 in Best 100 of 2016* From one of the preeminent Chardonnay producers in the country comes their least expensive yet perhaps most stunning bottling, showing strong lemon rind, sea salt, Gravenstein apple and a floral touch of honeysuckle on the nose. It's not all that often that I suggest that readers cellar NV Brut but this is an example that absolutely cries out for it. Château Bois-Malot, located in Saint Loubes and situated on the shoreline of the Dordogne River, produces Entre-Deux-Mers from 2 hectares of vineyards from vines with an average age of 15 years. From the brewery: "Amalgamator is a West Coast-Style India Pale Ale that's bursting with unique aromas and flavors. A light base of American 2-row malt makes way for the hops to take the stage. The dry hop is a massive charge of Mosaic that lays down an amalgam of passion fruit, dank resin, and citrus aromas."
90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star* A substantial complement of nicely ripened, white melon fruit spreads out beneath this ample effort's mildly weedy, vaguely straw-like varietal veneer, and a bit of enriching oak makes a subtle, but welcome appearance as well. On the palate, it is a somewhat fuller and richer rendition, but it stops well short of being at all oversized and stays in very comfortable balance all the way to a lengthy, well-focused finish.
