90 points Wine Spectator: "*Smart Buys* A fresh and inviting red, with crisp acidity set against a plush layer of well-formed blueberry and floral flavors, picking up spicy notes as the finish plays out. (HS)" (10/2015) Vinous: "Bright medium red. Lively aromas of cherry, cranberry and mint display a slightly candied character. Juicy, spicy red fruit flavors are straightforward and fresh. This light, dry blend finishes with dusty tannins and a refreshing bitter edge, with more acidity than tannins. 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An absolutely fabulous value is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa. This comes from multiple sources and there are 46,000+ cases of it. A stunning Cabernet Sauvignon and a classic example of Napa viticulture, this blend of 75.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, was aged just over two years in oak. Loads of sweet blackcurrant fruit, cocoa, a touch of toast, earth, and baking spice are all present in this wine that has terrific fruit on the attack and mid-palate, a full-bodied mouthfeel, no hard edges and a lus ...Read More »
Wine Enthusiast: "This ripe, yellow-fruit-flavored wine has a smooth, rich texture. Full and flavorsome, it conveys a ripe, nutty character. The wine with its warm fruitiness is ready to drink. (RV)" (10/2016) K&L Notes: Once in a great while you find wines from the Mâcon so good that tasting them blind you might think they're from a much higher (and more expensive) appellation. Often, such a wine comes from hillside vineyards, with better drainage and cooler nights. This one example, harvested from the slopes below the giant monolith of rock that is Solutré. Domaine Renaud is a small... Read More »
Vinous: "Bright violet. Extremely primary, displaying dark berry and cherry aromas and flavors enlivened by peppery spices. Shows good focus and energy thanks to tangy acidity, and picks up a subtle floral nuance as the wine slowly opens up. Finishes taut and refreshingly bitter, leaving hints of cherry pit and black currant behind. (JR)" (8/2016) Wine Enthusiast: "*Best Buy* Produced from a small parcel of old vines, this is a crisp and fresh wine. With red-cherry fruit and acidity, it is a bright wine, up-front with its fruitiness and lively aftertaste. (RV)" (11/2016)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Coming all from Paso Robles, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet aged in stainless steel) is a forward, charming wine that has lots of upfront jammy blackberry, savory herbs, licorice and a hint of graphite to go with a medium-bodied, supple, nicely focused feel on the palate. There's a solid kick of tannin on the finish, so pair this with some fatty meat over the coming couple of years. Readers looking for killer values need look no further than this Foxglove releases from Jim and Bob Varner. (JD)" (10/2016) Vinous: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon from Foxglov ...Read More »
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "The nose of this wine is quite shy at first, and it takes patience to pull out aromas of plum, crushed berries and a touch of charcoal. The palate opens up more quickly, showing elderberries and elderflowers, plus rose hips and a touch of fennel. (MK)" (11/2016) 90 points Wine Spectator: "*Smart Buys* Strikingly rich and complex, with a dense core of dark berry, black licorice, earth and cedar flavors that hold their own, easing up on the finish. Drink now." (9/2016)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent value that has classic Cabernet notes of black currants, plums, graphite and some herbal aromas and flavors. Blended with 16% Syrah, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Zinfandel, and aged 16 months in French and American oak, drink this medium-bodied, nicely balanced 2014 over the coming 4-5 years. (8/2015) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Pure and fresh, boasting black currant and black cherry flavors, with tar and earth details. Lean, almost racy, with vivid acidity driving the long, mineral-tinged finish. Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2017 through 2023. (BS)" (10/2015)
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Checking in as a blend of 50% Grenache Blanc, 30% Chardonnay and 20% Roussanne that spent four months in tank, on lees, the smoking good 2015 IGP Cotes Catalanes Cote d’Est comes from vineyards located right up against the Mediterranean Sea. This medium-bodied, juicy and deliciously fresh white is almost overflowing with notes of orange blossom, peach, salty sea breeze and honey on the nose. The chance to work with Michel Couvreur on a special K&L whisky project was something that David and I had been dreaming of for years. We had heard the stories. This crazy Belgian had moved to Burgundy in the '60s, carved out a wine cellar inside a mountain, only to fill it with Scottish single malt whisky instead of Pinot Noir. He set up camp in Beaune, ordered new-make spirit to be delivered by tanker, and drove down to Jerez himself, selecting his own sherry butts to insure only the finest quality casks for his contracted spirit. Unfortunately, Michel... Read More »
93 points Wine & Spirits: "This feels regal and old-fashioned in the best way, a gruff, gravelly Gigondas made charming by its subdued fruit and sweet earthiness. Two years in oak foudres—half of them new—has added a brown-sugar richness to the fruit; any charry notes have been incorporated fully, turning the flavors toward roast meat. Firm and savory, this is a pleasure to drink now, and it’s sure to age well over the next decade." (2/2016) 91 points Vinous: "Opaque ruby. Pungent, floral red and dark berry scents, along with a smoky mineral quality and a hint of olive; seems like there's more Syrah i ...Read More »

95 points James Suckling: "Traditional style Chianti Classico with cedar, dried meat, dark chocolate and tobacco aromas. Full body, silky and polished tannins and a fantastic finish. A wine that shows depth and lots of flavor. Lively acidity too." (8/2015) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 vintage was less problematic in the Castelnuovo Berardenga sub zone compared to other parts of the Chianti Classico appellation. Fèlsina's 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga is full, generous and reflects the house style of this celebrated estate. Made from 20-year-old Pinot Noir planted in chalk and clay soils, vinified entirely in stainless steel, this is a super fresh and fun style of Pinot. It has everything you want in a Pinot--a touch of spice, pretty red and blue fruits, light tannin and a fresh, juicy finish.
Wine Spectator: "Fresh and direct, with plum and blood orange flavors racing throughout, this is lined with a twinge of sandalwood that leads to a lavender-flecked finish. Drink now. (JM)" (10/2016)
91 points Vinous: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a gorgeous, entry-level wine for the estate. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, licorice, spice and gravel are all pushed forward. This is an unusually forward wine although there is plenty of the typical savory/graphite notes that are so typical of this site. (AG)" (2/2016) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate from Monument Ridge is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 18 months in 37% new French oak. It is an outstanding wine, with the oak pushed to the background. Notes of crushed rocks, spring flowers, blackcurrants, plums, and Asian ...Read More »
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Well differentiated from the winery's Pinot Blanc, this round and fleshy wine offers freshly cut pear fruit with a burst of orange juice and peel. It's bright, lively, spicy and a great all-purpose white wine when you need a break from Chardonnay. (PG)" (4/2017) Wine Spectator: "Light and supple, with easygoing pear and peach flavors. (TF, Web-2017)"
Jancis Robinson: "*Very Good Value* From Limoux, but without Chenin Blanc in the blend it can't be called Crémant de Limoux. Full bodied, showing some lovely development with a neat bead. Absolutely and resoundingly, yes! There may be those who would scoff at the price of this wine, and claim that a sparkling wine set so low could never be worth any serious consideration. Well, we're happy to confidently report a cou... Read More »
The brewery: "Redemption is the younger sister to our award-winning ale, Damnation. Fashioned after a Belgian-style 'single,' this ale is rarely brewed in America, let alone Belgium. Typically, 'singles' are brewed only at the Trappist Monasteries for the monks to enjoy with meals. They often drink only half a bottle with lunch and the rest with supper, despite the beer's low alcohol content. Redemption is modest in strength, robed in warm golden hues, and soft on the palate with a smooth dry finish." 5.0% ABV / 1.048 O.G / 23 BUs.

(11/2016) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As always, this celebrated wine shows excellent results. The 2012 I Sodi di S. 100 points Decanter: "A captivating bouquet of violets, lilac, black fruit, blood orange and meaty soil tones is striking for its extravagent range and amplitude; and on the palate, the wine is three-dimensional, sophisticatedly savoury, and massive but refined. Tod Mostero remarks that, having crafted the 2013 Dominus, he can die happy as a winemaker. Selection here was especially rigorous, as the team wanted to realise the vintage's unparalleled potential as fully as possible, so only 3,500 cases were produced. A special label commemorates the 30th anniversary of Dominus Es ...Read More »

This has a soft and delicate nose with a gentle core of strawberries, quince and pomegranate, along with nuances of red florals and suggestions of thirst-quenching mineral elements. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has light flavours of strawberries, pomegranate and quince fruit entwined with soft, savoury floral and minerally notes. Our best deal in pink bubbles! Fans of Billecart-Salmon take note: this is an elegant, dry style that is made entirely from estate-grown fruit in Brouillet. This Champagne is a blend of half and half Pinot Noir and Meunier. The color comes from 12% Meunier that is vinified red, from an old-vine plot that gets quite ripe. It is a very pretty tarnished pink color and has a lazy bead from over five years of aging on the lees. Our current selection has a 2012 base wine. It has gorgeous red cherry fruit on the nose and mid-palate, but still finishes snappy an... Read More »
Outstanding sparkling wine from the Languedoc? Absolutely and resoundingly, YES! There will be those of you who scoff at the price of this wine, and claim that a sparkling wine set so low will never be worth any serious consideration. Well, those of you would be WRONG. One of the rising stars of the Languedoc, Jean Louis Denois makes exciting, world class wines that nonetheless remain amazingly inexpensive, owing to his location more than anything else. His vineyards sit in the very southwestern corner of France, at the foot of the Pyrenees, and he produ... Read More »

92 points James Suckling: "A complex, reliable Champagne that would show well in all occasions thanks to its freshness and class. Drawing on all three grapes (chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier), this has a complex grilled-nut and autolysis character overlayed across red berries and citrus fruits. Definitely a lot of reserve wine character here. The palate delivers lemons, grapefruit, peaches and mangoes in a refreshingly pure, fleshy style. 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "The producer pulls from its estate Su'skol Vineyard for this wine, which opens in an aromatic flirtation of sweet honeysuckle, revealing the site's abundance of musqué clone. In the early 1990s, Pine Ridge crafted this unusual and delectable blend as an experimental bottling, creating one of their most beloved and popular wines. This unique marriage of two varietals that would never share the same bottle in their native France unites the crisp, honeyed fruit of Chenin Blanc with the plush body and juicy stone fruit notes of Viognier, for a wine that is both sophisticated and easy to enjoy.
In addition to collaborating on four acres of fruit in Brouilly, Michel and Robert Perroud took over their father's winemaking estate in Colgny, a family tradition that goes back seven generations all the way to the French Revolution! Over time they've made a few changes to that family legacy, investing in new rootstock, planting additional varietals like chardonnay, pinot noir, and viognier, as well as making a committed effort to organic and sustainable farming. All their young vines are either organically farmed or under organic conversion and all the... Read More »
The name of the estate is the first indication of its long, illustrious past. Located in the heart of Provence, near routes traveled by Crusaders in the early Middle Ages, the Commanderie de Peyrassol was founded by the Knights of Templar who were dedicated to protecting the Crusaders en route to, and in, the Holy Land. The first recorded grape harvest took place in 1256 and winemaking has continued uninterrupted throughout the centuries.
