2007 Heitz Cellar "Trailside Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points James Suckling: "A wine with lovely restraint with plums, blueberries and hints of tobacco. Earthy. Full and silky and long. Lovely length. Juicy and delicious. Needs a year or two to come together." (4/2012) 92 points Vinous: "Still a young wine, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Trailside Vineyard is just beginning to show the first signs of aromatic nuance. Dark red cherry, plums, mocha and spices round out this nicely layered Cabernet. Racy, powerful and voluptuous, but with enough tannic backbone and structure to drink well for a number of years, the 2007 Trailside is showing quite well today ...Read More »

Keeps a tight focus on the long, rich, detailed aftertaste." (10/2000) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: ""A profoundly deep nose of red and black fruit, with cedar, ginger and nutmeg. 2005 Heitz Cellar "Trailside Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Wine Spectator: "This fine new release, with some bottle age, shows signs of subtle maturity. Aromas of mocha, cedar, dried currant and spice box follow through to a full body, This is well-built, with fine balance and good length. (Web-2011)" K&L Notes: In the early 1980s, the Heitz Family acquired a marvelous Rutherford vineyard bordered on one side by the Silverado Trail and nudged on the other by the Conn Creek. Thus the Trailside Vineyard was born. Aged for three-and-a-half years in a combination of American and French Limousin oak, the 2005 is elegantly perfumed to complement a... Read More »

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine, a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec, and 3% Petit Verdot, is one of the finest efforts Cain Cellars has yet made. Fortunately, there were 5,500 cases produced. This is subtle and complex, but needs another three years." (2/2011) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Blackberry, cassis and boysenberry aromas complemented by licorice, violet, menthol and bitter chocolate. 2006 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Vinous: "A dark, brooding beauty, the 2006 Monte Bello is still very, very young. The aromatics alone are enticing, but the tannins still need time to soften. The 2006 is a masculine, vertical Monte Bello that demands cellaring. Even so, it is pretty impressive today. Scents of lavender, sage, mint and savory herbs add closing flourishes. The perfumed sweetness of the fruit (one of the hallmarks of the very late harvest) remains one of the signatures of the 2006. The 2006 can be enjoyed today or cellared for another 25+ years. 95+ Points (AG)" (7/2016) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "...the 2006 ...Read More »

Thick, massive, and concentrated with ample currants, lead pencil, licorice and chocolate aromas and flavors, this full-bodied beauty is just now at the early stages of adolescence, and has plenty of underlying tannic grip still present. It should hit full maturity in another 4-5 years and hold for 2-3 decades after that. It exhibits a saturated purple color, as well as a youthful yet promising nose of toasty new oak, briery fruit, cassis, and licorice. The wine is concentrated and pure, with sweet tannin, adequate acidity, and medium to full body. A seamless, beautifully proportioned Cabernet Sauvignon, it should be at its peak with another 2-3 years of bottle age, and keep for 15 or more. Its youthful purple/ruby color is followed by gorgeously complex and intense aromas of wild herbs, exotic spices, caramelized beef, licorice and layers of sweet black fruits and creamy black cherry-like nuances. 2007 Nickel & Nickel "Dragonfly Vineyard" St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2007 Dragonfly Cabernet Sauvignon marries loganberry and strawberry aromas with hints of wild strawberry perfume. The floral notes hint at the elegance that this vineyard always delivers. This flamboyant wine tastes lighter than I would have expected for a 1997. In the mouth, it reveals medium body, sweet jammy cherry fruit, and a soft finish. (RP)" (12/2000) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red, with a hint of development at the rim. Classic California cabernet aromas of blackcurrant, tar and menthol. 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* One of the first, if not the first, of the proprietarily named Napa Bordeaux blends, Phelps Insignia has been one of California’s greatest Cabs for decades. This is their 30th anniversary bottling, and it’s worthy of the tradition. Ultrarich and smooth, with a mouthfeel that’s pure velvet, it’s fairly thick in tannins now, suggesting cellaring. But it’s huge in blackberry, dark unsweetened chocolate and spicy plum fruit, and will easily hold for a very long time." 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A great wine in the making, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (just under 10,000 cases produced) possesses a fragrant bouquet of sweet black currants, crushed rocks, earth and background oak. Full-bodied and dense, with Montelena’s typical power, tannin and reserved nature, this is a big, rich, formidably endowed red that requires 4-5 years of cellaring. That in itself is atypical of this exuberant, flamboyant vintage. Given this cuvee’s past history, this 2007 should age for 30+ years. 94+ (RP)" (12/2010) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated, deep ruby-red. Here it is the wine's sense of energy that stands out most. Vivid, nuanced and structured, the 1999 is a wine to cellar for another 5-10 years at a minimum to allow the flavors to flesh out. Readers lucky enough to own the 1999 who can wait a few years will be very happy. It takes at least a decade for wines such as this to begin to reveal more identity and vintage character. The cassis/blackberry liqueur-like fruit are present, as are mouthsearing levels of tannin and impressive extract. This blockbuster should be at its peak between 2010-2040. That shyness extended to the taste, where strong, hard tannins provide an almost impenetrable coat of armor to what’s inside. But right down the middle of the palate is a deep, intensely powerful stream of perfectly ripened cassis that’s all the proof you need of ageability. It tastes as if it hasn’t changed since I first sampled it in late 2003 and then again in bottle two years later. The color is healthy ruby/purple, and the wine displays some dusty, oaky, vanillin notes that jump out of the glass along with a touch of white chocolate as well as red and black currants and hints of cedar and forest floor. Extremely young and full-bodied, with some wood char still present, it is unevolved and tastes like it could be a barrel sample, except that it has been in bottle for nearly ten years! Composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot, it is a sumptuous, virtually perfect expression of wine with an inky/purple color, beautiful floral aromas intermixed with sweet, pure black currants and hints of licorice as well as subtle oak. The extraordinary ripeness of the tannins, the flawless integration of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol, the remarkable finish, and the full-bodied texture make for a tour de force in winemaking. 2000 Opus One Napa Valley Proprietary Red
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Opus One Napa Valley Proprietary Red (92WE, 91VN). Wine Enthusiast: "Made in the Opus style, which is graceful, limpid and elegant, but with hidden depths of authority and power. The blackberry, cherry and oak flavors are pretty, but the wine is most notable for its harmony and grace. Tannins play only a supportive role, but they will let this wine age effortlessly for many years." (12/2004)

1992 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1992 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (92RP, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made from a blend of fruit from four vineyards, Bancroft Ranch (57%), State Lane (now known as the Kapcsandy Vineyard) (21%), St. Helena Home Vineyard (14%) and Chabot (5%), 1992’s growing season was in total contrast to the preceding vintages. It was warm, even hot, with early bud break and some unusual rain in June. However, the following months were super-dry and hot, which caused an early start to the harvest. It turned out to be a classic Napa vintage in its exuberance and rich fruit. Although totally dry, it reveals a sweeter style with higher alcohol and glycerin and an impression of unctuosity and viscosity. While it does not exhibit the complexity of either the 1990 or 1991, it possesses a dense purple color along with a sexy, up-front, effusive, flamboyant style. (RP)" (06/2011)
