1998 Faultline 17 Year Old "K&L Exclusive" Caribbean Rum (750ml) (Previously 80)

SKU #1263818

We don't expect this batch of 17 year old "Caribbean" rum to last very long, partly because it's so delicious and partly because of its origins. We can't say where it's from exactly, just that it's from somewhere in the CUribBeAN region. This incredibly complex and fragrant rum combines many of the ester-driven flavors we love about rum from Jamaica and St. Lucia with the richness and elegance of the Spanish style. The flavor profile is drier and more old school in character. There's a big dusty mineral note framed by tropical pineapple, overripe banana and powerful baking spice. On the palate, fresh grassy cane, touches of mint and anise with dried fruit that meanders in between tea and cola. It's a rum you absolutely do not want to miss, especially if you're interested in forbidden fruits.

Now that relations with America have recently warmed, thawing the remnants of our Cold War stand-off, we're finally bringing real "Caribbean" rum back to our thirsty rum drinkers. This unsweetened 100 proof edition brings richness from 17 years in oak, but it's still a dry and ester-driven rum with loads of fruit and a little bit of funk to balance it out. Those picturing Havana Club need to imagine a bit less sugar and bit more tropical fruit with an earthy cane finish. Without a doubt, however, this is one of the best rums we've ever carried and if you've got a hankering for cigars, this "Caribbean" edition makes for a fine pairing.

My new favorite rum. This has a beautifully sweet nose reminiscent of Calvados with soft baked apple and apple skin notes. There is honey, tea, and a touch of menthol along with both fresh sugar and caramel on the palate. Wonderfully smooth, easy to drink, and the perfect thing to sip on it's own. If you don't mind mixing your fine booze into classic cocktails, may I suggest you make a Cuba Libre? I think if you do, you'll find this rum to be right at home.

This is a fantastic rum that shows just how complex and interesting rum can be. In the nose there are floral and fruity accents. This is followed with a dry style rum that has a savory earthy spice, and subtle notes of smoke. This is one of the best rums that I have tasted in a long while.
