Fallet-Dart "Grande Sélection" Brut Champagne

Wine Spectator: "A firm, elegant style, this reveals floral, dough and candied berry notes. Harmonious, ending with a refreshing crispness. (BS)" (12/2006) K&L Notes: This all-estate Champagne is aged for six years on the lees and is composed of 70% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier. This wine has very fine, brioche-like aromas from the long sur-lie aging, as well as a savory cherry note from the high-quality Pinot. It is very rich and long in the mouth, with a fine bead, again from long aging.

Fallet-Dart "Cuvée de Réserve" Brut Champagne

Wine Spectator: "A lush style, offering immediate vanilla and honey flavors. Picks up a citrus note on the finish, as the structure makes itself evident. Very open and accessible. (BS)" (12/2006) K&L Notes: Although not labled as such, this is a Blanc de Noir composed of 60% Meunier and 40% Pinot Noir. It is aged for over four years on the lees and dosed at about 10 grams per liter. It has a lovely combination of spiced pear, pie crust and black cherry on the very generous, open nose. The wine is broad, rich and textural in the mouth, and has a persist ...

2013 Leeuwin "Art Series" Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River Western Australia (Elsewhere $55)

97 points Bob Campbell: "Deep red/purple: an outstanding color in depth and hue. The bouquet is clean, fresh and alive, with bright black fruit and violet aromas, touches of cedar and toasty oak, the palate very deep and concentrated, with lush fruit and abundant tannins, which counter-balance the fruit and sweetness. A powerful yet elegant Cabernet with a very long and distinguished future ahead of it. An outstanding, profound wine. (HH, Real Review)" (06/2017) 96 points James Halliday: "The unadorned purity of this cabernet follows precisely in the f ...

2008 Fallet-Dart Vintage Brut Champagne Jeroboam (3L)

Four bottles in one! Perfect for a party. The blend for the vintage 2008 is 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir with aging of 84 months at the minimum. It is certainly one of the most exciting big bottles of vintage Champagne in the store, from a vintage that many in the region consider the best in a generation. -Gary Westby

Jean-Louis Denois Pinot Noir Brut Rosé

Outstanding sparkling wine from the Languedoc? Absolutely and resoundingly, YES! There will be those of you who scoff at the price of this wine, and claim that a sparkling wine set so low will never be worth any serious consideration. Well, those of you would be WRONG. One of the rising stars of the Languedoc, Jean Louis Denois makes exciting, world-class wines that nonetheless remain amazingly inexpensive, owing to his location more than anything else. His vineyards sit in the very southwestern corner of France, at the foot of the Pyrenees, and he produ ...

Launois Brut Rosé Champagne

When I first asked Séverine Launois if we could have the Launois Brut Rose Champagne for the Champagne club, she replied with a simple "No, thank you," but when I placed an order for the cases, she let me have them. I don't know if we'll ever be able to get this 100% Pinot Noir Champagne from them again, but at least we have it now! This is an unusual offering from Launois, as everything else that we have ever carried from them is all Chardonnay. The grapes are harvested from their estate in the Sézanne, a chalky piece of Champagne isolated from the rest ...

Fluteau Brut Rosé Champagne

Wow, is this stuff is dark! If you are interested in tasting a "red wine" Champagne, this is your opportunity. This potent, even tannic Champagne reminds me very much of red wine, but with wonderful bubbles. It is entirely estate grown Pinot Noir, from the Fluteau estate in Gye-Sur-Seine. Made by macerating all of the grape skins so they stay in contact with the juice to get the maximum flavor and color. This rosé is a great bottle for a picnic with cold cut sandwiches, or even with dessert. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer) The base wine is from 2010 a ...

Jean-Louis Denois "Tradition" Extra Brut Reserve

Jancis Robinson: "From Limoux, but without Chenin Blanc in the blend it can't be called Crémant de Limoux. Full bodied, showing some lovely development with a neat bead. Mouthfilling citrus tang, and very satisfying. Would put many Champagnes to shame, quite frankly. *Very Good Value* (TC)" (07/2014) K&L Notes: Outstanding sparkling wine from the Languedoc? Absolutely and resoundingly, yes! There may be those who would scoff at the price of this wine, and claim that a sparkling wine set so low could never be worth any serious consideration. W.L. Weller 12 Year Old Bourbon (750ml) (one bottle limit)

Whisky Advocate: "A “wheated” bourbon, meaning that it doesn’t have the spicy rye notes found in a more traditional “ryed” bourbon. A pleasantly sweet, easy-going, well-balanced experience. Creamy vanilla, caramel, candied corn, and ripe berried fruit, along with more subtle notes of glazed orange, cocoa powder, and wood shavings. If I were going to ease a new bourbon drinker into the category, I might pick this one. " K&L Notes: Paul Pacult in The Spirit Journal: "From its deep, bronze color to its initial aromas of lanolin, almond oil, and creamed cor ...

2015 Bodegas Palacios Remondo "La Montesa" Crianza Rioja

93 points James Suckling: "A very cool wine. Made from almost all garnacha, it has a depth and intensity with a minerality and saltiness. Plenty of strawberries and flowers. Medium body. Vivid and focused. Lovely finish already. Drink now. Made from organic grapes. " (07/2017) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Always a sure value, the 2015 La Montesa, has been increasing the amount of Garnacha in its blend, and here it reached 92% with the remaining 8% being Tempranillo. La Montesa is the name of a large estate where different lieux-dits, or "p ...

2016 John Duval "Entity" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia (Elsewhere $40)

97 points James Halliday: "60% Barossa Valley, 40% Eden Valley grapes, open-fermented with submerged cap, matured for 15 months in new (33%) and used French hogsheads. Deeply colored; this is at once full-bodied and elegant, not a common marriage with young red wines with decades in front of them. The flavors are all black: blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, earth and licorice. The old vines have also provided ripe tannins, the whole theme resonated with oak a la Grange." (12/2018) 94 points James Suckling: "A ripe nose with the classic blackberry ...

2009 Belle-Vue, Haut-Médoc

93 points James Suckling: "Very classy nose here of minerals, currants and hints of freshly cut flowers. Full-bodied, with super silky tannins and a beautiful combination of ripe fruits and bright acidity. Tension to this. Juicy. Best ever from here." (04/2012) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In a somewhat tragic twist, this over-achieving cru bourgeois in Haut-Medoc has turned in its finest wine to date, an unfined cuvee made from 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 20% Petit Verdot, created by the late proprietor Vincent Mulliez, who die ...

2016 Bodegas Puelles Segundo Año Rioja

A K&L Direct Import! This is a new wine for us from the Bodegas Puelles stable. "Segundo año" means second year, and refers to the fact that it is released in the wine's second year following harvest. Prior to the more widespread usage of terms such as crianza, reserva and gran reserva, wineries would indicate the age of their wine by stating segundo, cuarto, quinto or whichever was the appropriate year. Not merely a quaint throwback, however, this segundo año is delicious, with bright, crisp fruit of excellent purity and a judicious amount of barrel ag ...

2010 Faugeres, St-Emilion

95 points James Suckling: "Very fruity and rich wine with dried strawberries and blackberries. Full body, with an opulent palate of ripe fruit and toasted oak. Yet racy and refined with a beautiful balance. It's fresh and racy. Try after 2018." (02/2013) 92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Spice and mint aromas with blackberry fruit, new wood and a polished character. The acidity is delicious, refreshing." (06/2011) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Solid, if a touch chewy along the edges right now, as briar, cocoa and licorice snap notes are out in front of the ...

2016 Bodegas Casa Juan Señor de Lesmos Crianza Rioja

As is the case with so many other great spots in Spain, Bodega Casa Juan is located opposite the village church, in the beautiful walled pueblo of Laguardia. The winery is a converted flour mill, featuring concrete tanks for fermenting and blending the wine; and for aging, barrels that are used for up to seven years. These are traditional Riojas in elaboration and spirit, though the site specificity of their Laguardia and Villabuena vineyards confers a fruit character all its own to these wines. And what fruit! This crianza is a potpouri of mixed berries ...

2018 Le Paradou Viognier

According to the importer: "Le Paradou is a project created by Alexandre and Frédéric Chaudière whose family produce some of the most respected wines in the Ventoux at Château Pesquié. … Le Paradou Viognier is produced from vines on rocky hillsides located in the foothills of the Cévennes between Montpellier and Nîmes. Planted on porous, limestone soils originating from the Jurassic period, these vines result in a mineral Viognier with bright acidity. It is aged entirely in tank to retain the freshness and purity. Bell's Brewery "Cherry" Stout, Michigan (12oz)

From the brewery: "Tinted ruby-black, Cherry Stout gains its signature tartness from 100% Montmorency cherries grown in Michigan's Traverse City region. Rather than doubling up on sweetness, this tart cherry varietal serves as a counterpoint to the warm, dark chocolate notes from the malt bill. Lightly hopped for balance, this stout is one of the cornerstones of the Bell's stout portfolio."

1978 Louis Martini "International Vineyard" Monterey Cabernet Sauvignon

Since 1933 the Martini family, headed by Italian immigrant Louis M. Martini has been making cabernet sauvignon-varietal wines that showcase the potential of this noble grape. 2014 Clerc-Milon, Pauillac

94 points Decanter: "It's immediately obvious from both colour and first nose that this has a wonderful richness to it, offering powerful cherry pit, graphite and dark chocolate notes but without being overly sweet. A serious wine that is delivering on its potential, vintage after vintage. The Cab Franc vines are on limestone and clay here, and reached perfect ripeness. Overall there is a higher percentage of both Cabernets than usual in the blend. 9% press wine. 50% new oak. (JA)" (05/2018) 94 points James Suckling: "Extremely floral and fresh with cu ...

1978 Louis Martini "Foxen Canyon" Santa Barbara Cabernet Sauvignon

The story of Louis Martini is a key chapter in Napa's winemaking history. Genovese immigrant Louis Martini established his first business in 1922, smack in the middle of Prohibition (in force in the U.S. from 1919 until 1933). He was therefore limited to making "sacramental and medicinal" wines at first. With the end of Prohibition, Martini became one the first winemakers in California to produce vintage-dated varietal table wines in quantity, and at reasonable prices. Sourced from prime vineyards in Napa and Sonoma, including Monte Rosso in the mountain ...

2001 Coutet, Sauternes

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Here is a typical Coutet nose that is just beginning to find its groove: barley sugar and quince scents typifying Barsac, augmented by Seville orange and lime. The palate is viscous and extremely well focused with fine mineralité and tension. It feels quite youthful and linear vis-à-vis its peers and concludes with a tangy, marmalade-lavished finish. Drink through 2035. (NM)" (10/2014) 93 points Vinous: "Subdued but pure aromas of mirabelle, peach, pear and pineapple; hints at a roasted botrytis ripeness. Then ...

2009 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac (375ml)

95 points James Suckling: "Complex and decadent. Blackberries and black currants, with fresh herbs on the nose. Tea too. Full body, with soft tannins and an earthy finish. Juicy wine. Turns to pure black currants. Best in 2018." (02/2012) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Performing better from bottle than it did from cask (and comparable to their wines 2005, 2000, 1990 and 1982), this is a great classic from Xavier Borie's estate situated on the back roads west of the town of Pauillac. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by hints of spring ...

2013 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

95 points Wine Spectator: "Features ample stuffing, with lots of dark plum sauce, crushed cherry and warm blackberry confiture flavors forming the core. Melted black licorice, plum eau-de-vie and black tea notes fill in the background. Reveals a lovely echo of ganache at the very end. (JM)" (11/2015) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While the cuvée Chaupin comes mostly from sandy soils, the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes comes more from the rolled pebble soils the region is famous for, and always shows the richer, more powerful ...

2012 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Revealing the great blending skills of Beringer’s winemaking team, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is a winner. Having purchased Private Reserves for many years, I can attest that they age incredibly well. The 1991, one of the great successes of that vintage, is still aging beautifully at nearly 25 years of age. The sensational 2012 (10,000 cases) boasts an opaque purple color along with abundant aromas of charcoal, burning embers, creme de cassis, chocolate, blackberries and licorice. 2018 Adegas Valtea Albariño Rias Baixas

Our third vintage of this direct import Albariño, this wine shows everything we like in the grape: hints of lemongrass, lively stone fruit, and a brisk, saline-tinged palate. Located in the sub-zone of Condado do Tea, where the days are a bit warmer and evenings are slightly cooler, there is a wonderful mid-palate presence to complement the typically lean and mineral qualities of Albariño. A classic with any shellfish, especially Dungeness crab!

2012 Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs Brut Sparkling Wine (1.5L)

93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs bottlings seem to always evoke a little more richness than most even as they remain true to the lighter imperatives of the category and this one does so once again here. The wine is nicely autolyzed but not aggressively yeasty and shows genuine sophistication and a wonderful sense of poise at every stop with a brightening bit of citrus set against a gentle, carefully matched touch of toast. It will make memorable drinking with tangy finger foods, but we cannot help thinking of fresh, briny oyster ...

2016 Delas Freres "Domaine des Tourettes" Hermitage Blanc

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Hermitage Domaine Des Tourettes Blanc is a total blockbuster and almost matches what was achieved in 2015! Coming from the bottom part of the Les Bessards lieu-dit and from the Les Grandes Vignes lieu-dit at the highest point on the hill, it’s 100% Marsanne brought up all in 30% new barrel. Killer notes of apple blossom, buttered citrus, and orange blossom all soar from the glass of this rich, powerful Hermitage Blanc that has a red wine-like structure, a huge mid-palate, and a great finish. It shows the fresher style pre ...

2003 Coufran, Haut-Médoc (375ml)

89 points Robert Parker: "This primarily Merlot-based wine represents an excellent effort from this property. This deep plum/ruby/purple-tinged hussy boasts plenty of jammy black cherry fruit interwoven with notions of smoke, vanilla, and white chocolate. It is a sexy, up-front, fleshy effort with low acidity as well as abundant fruit, glycerin, and texture. Consume it over the next 7-8 years." 2003 Suduiraut, Sauternes (Previously $80)

96 points James Suckling: "A wonderful and fascinating wine with a tangy sweet and sour character. Full and very sweet, with a dried citrus character and an underlying orange marmalade note. Long and delicious already. Lovely balance for having such a ripe finish. This can age forever, but why deny yourself?" (03/2013) 93 points John Gilman: "The 2003 Suduiraut is the finest example of this vintage in Sauternes that I have yet tasted, though this is admittedly from a fairly small sampling of the vintage. The bouquet is deep, pure and very refined in it ...

2014 Delas Frères "Les Bessards" Hermitage (Previously $1200)

Deep, rich and concentrated, with beautiful crushed rock-like minerality, liquid violets, cassis, and black raspberry aromas and flavors, it's medium to full-bodied, impeccably balanced and has building, ripe, polished tannin. 2018 Can Mayol Loxarel "A pel" Ancestral Classic Penedes

Petillant naturel, aka "pet nat" is here to stay, and this is our favorite Spanish rendition of this popular sparkling wine style. The "Apel" is a Xarel-lo based methode ancestrale, allowed to naturally ferment prior to being bottled and then fermented fully dry, possessing just the right amount of sugar while in bottle to convert into trapped CO2. The resulting wine is dry, expressive, elegantly textured and more-ish as can be! Can Mayol, which bottles under the trademarked name "Loxarel," is a winery that has farmed organically for 15 years. The Mitjan ...
