2016 Domaine Tabordet "Calcis" Pouilly Fumé

Nestled in the village of Verdigny, Domain Tabordet is run by brothers Yvon and Pascal Tabordet, who took the reins back in 1981. When the two brothers first took over the estate it consisted of three hectares (7.4 acres) in Sancerre. By 1988 they had added another 4.5 hectares of Sancerre and another 12 hectares (29.7 acres) in neighboring Pouilly-Fumé, just across the Loire River. Wine growing in Pouilly-Fumé dates back to the fifth century when the Romans dominated the area. In 1937 it became an official Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) of France ...

2016 Domaine Vincent Carême "Le Clos" Vouvray Sec

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Organically grown grapes from a single parcel go into this resplendent wine. Touched lightly by wood but much more focused on honey and apple, spice and intense acidity, the wine is ripe, peppery and set to age. Drink from 2022. (RV)" (12/2018) 92 points Wine Spectator: "A plump, ripe style that flirts with an off-dry feel, as ginger, pear, McIntosh apple and quince flavors race through, carried by a note of piecrust. Juicy energy throughout gives this a flattering feel. Drink now through 2026. 350 cases made. (JM)" (11/2018 ...

2000 Joël Taluau Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil Vieilles Vignes

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak--which he hasn't used in production since 1986. He was also the first producer in the appellation to begin domaine bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot of Cabernet Franc planted in 1934, is prized for its power, depth and grace. This flagship wine is meant to age, and the large format bottle will have helped to preserve freshness.

2018 Domaine des Côtes Blanches Sancerre (1.5L)

Domaine Côtes Blanches was established in the 1930s by Bernard and Pierre Millet. In 1980, it was time for the second generation to take the reins, so François and Monique expanded the estate to 21 hectares of vines (15 Sauvignon, 6 Pinot Noir). After returning from his studies in Beaune five years ago, Nicolas (son of François and Monique) joined the family-run estate and brought a new energized passion. The family is dedicated to the land and the environment by which they are surrounded. All farming is done organically, harvest dates are dictated by na ...

2018 Domaine des Côtes Blanches Sancerre Rosé (1.5L)

Made by the Millet family who have been running the estate for five generations. Vigneron Nicolas Millet has taken the helm of this family operation, originally established in the 1930s, and began moving the winemaking toward organics in 2008. Nicolas makes wonderful blancs and rouges but the rosé is always a standout in the category. The Côtes Blanches refers to the stony white soils found on the slopes of Sancerre in the heart of France. This is the homeland of light, delicate Pinot Noir, made into fresh reds and elegant rosés. The Sancerre Rosé is aro ...

2018 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre

From the importer: "With cellars located in the charming, hilltop town of Sancerre, Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron have vineyards in mainly the eastern part of Sancerre on hard, flinty soils as well as smaller holding on softer limestone and clay soils. Their "village" Sancerre bottling draws from both terroirs to create a subtle, mineral and completely satisfying wine. One of the few estates in Sancerre to harvest entirely by hand this wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in tank for at least 4 months before bottling."

2018 Pierre & Bertrand Couly "Les Blancs Closeaux" Chinon Blanc

91 points Winedoctor.com: "This is 100% Chenin Blanc, from limestone soils. It is already in bottle. The nose is softly fragrant, with a gentle citrus-fruit substance, dressed with pretty and expressive notes of perfumed chalk. A similarly charming palate follows, with a gentle white peach and apricot character. Through the middle it feels fresh and plump, but overall the style is reserved, with restrained fruit but a nice phenolic backbone. Pretty, but it doesn't seem to communicate the generosity of the vintage." 91/100 (February 2019)

2018 Franck Millet Sancerre Blanc (1.5L)

The Millet Sancerre has been a favorite here at K&L for a long time. Grown in limestone-clay soil, the wine reflects the terroir wonderfully. The flavors are bright with lime, mineral, passion fruit, and that wonderful chalkiness one wants from a Sancerre. This wine over delivers and pairs beautifully with oily seafood dishes and of course, your favorite cheeses.

2018 Lucien Crochet Sancerre Rosé

White Sancerre is justly famous, winning fans with its stony, racy, Sauvignon Blanc self. Red Sancerre is not as well known, though many wine insiders appreciate the more feminine side of Pinot Noir made here, showing deft balance between fruit and structure, ripeness and acidity. Pink Sancerre is more obscure yet, and that is a shame, because when made as it is by the father and son team of Lucien and Gilles Crochet, it manages what so little rosés can: subtlety. This pink is consistently one of our summertime favorites. Made entirely from Pinot Noir, t ...

2017 Jacky Blot Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups "Remus" Montlouis Sur Loire

90 points John Gilman: "The 2017 Montlouis "Remus" Sec from Jacky Blot is a fine young wine in the making. The bouquet is still quite youthful, offering up scents of quince, orange zest, chalk dusty soil tones, a bit of lanolin, bee pollen and white lilies. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied andnascently complex, with respectable depth at the core, good acids and grip and a long, still quite primary finish. This will need some time to blossom properly, but will be a very tasty bottle when it is ready for primetime drinking. 2023-2055." (09/2018 ...

1997 Couly Dutheil "Clos de l'Olive" Chinon

Working in wine retail, we are often asked about what wines to age and how long one should age them. Truth be told, it depends. Chinon, for example, produces both wines that are intended to be drunk young and fresh and wines that are built to age for ten or more years. In step with the French notion of terroir, Cabernet Franc from Chinon heavily reflects the soil in which the vines are grown. The soil of Chinon can be divided into three main types: alluvial silt terraces composed of gravel and sand that sit along the banks of the Vienne River; Turonian c ...

2017 Lucien Crochet "Croix du Roy" Sancerre

The Crochet domaine evolved through the marriage of the Crochet and Picard families, with the latter family having commenced its vineyard holdings in the Sancerre district as early as 1765. It was the great-grandfather of Lucien Crochet who first installed that part of the family in the region and it was in 1934 that the first bottling of wines occurred at the domaine. The domaine now is under the direction of Lucien Crochet and his son, Gilles. Much of the Crochet holdings are located in the fabled vineyards of the Clos du Chene Marchand and Clos du Roy ...

1995 Couly Dutheil "Baronnie Madeleine" Chinon

Maison Couly-Dutheil is undeniably one of the finest estates of Chinon with eighty acres of prime Chinon vineyards as well as seven hectares of Saumur and Saumur Champigny. The estate's Chinon holdings are impressive indeed as they spread over three distinct Chinon terroirs: Sand and gravel along the Vienne River, which produce light and fruit driven wines; siliceous slopes and plateaus, which impart a certain finesse and elegance to Chinon; and finally clay and limestone slopes, which produce Chinon's most serious and profound wines. In the most success ...

2016 Jacky Blot Domaine de la Butte "Perrieres" Bourgueil

94 points John Gilman: "The Perrières is the only bottling from Jacky Blot in Bourgueil that sees any new oak, as this wine is raised in twenty percent new casks and the balance being one and two wine barrels. These two are vines in excess of thirty years of age, hailing from one of the greatest vineyards in Bourgueil. The 2016 Perrières is outstanding, wafting from the glass in a complex and refined bouquet of sweet dark berries, woodsmoke, a touch of cigar ash, a superb base of limestone soil elements, a discreet touch of eucalyptus, a bit of meatiness ...

Working with "natural" winemaking techniques, Clos de la Meslerie is farmed biodynamically using only basket presses and the first run juice for this cuvee. Sebastien's wines are unique in the Sancerre world, and are a strong reflection and true test of his vineyards and soil. Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc is known for its intense minerality, crisp texture and citrus quality. Riffault’s Sancerre wines veer away from the mainstream, but are none the less delicious, while showcasing his 2 hectares near Sury-en-Vaux. Expanded over the following generations to 35 hectares, it is currently run by Lucien's son, Gilles."

2004 Philippe Delesvaux Sélection de Grains Nobles Coteaux du Layon (500ml)

Each sip makes you want another. Drink now through 2020. (JM)" (11/2006) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Supersweet, but never cloying, with acidity, pear skin tannins and delicate sweet brown sugar and honey flavors. 2014 Les Betes Curieuses Muscadet Sévre et Maine Clisson (1.5L)

In 1977, two vignerons were born. Like the cuvees they would one day work on together, the two were well-raised, their roots firmly anchored in the land of the Loire Valley. In May 2005, Jeremie Huchet and Jeremie Mourat met at The London International Wine Fair, a big meeting of wine professionals. A friendship was born; linked by the same passion, the two Jeremies embarked on a shared project -- to highlight the nuances of the great terroirs Sevre and Maine.

2015 Bernard Baudry "La Croix Boissée" Chinon

Bernard Baudry runs an organic estate and their cuvées showcase the varied soil types of the Chinon AOC. La Croix Boissée is a selection of their relatively younger vine plots which have southern hillside exposure of sandy clay topsoil over particularly chalky, white limestone subsoils. The grapes are hand-harvested and the wine is fermented in wood tanks before ageing for 24 months in 1 to 3-year-old barrels.

2017 François Chidaine "Les Bournais" Montlouis Sur Loire Sec

93-95 points Chris Kissack the Winedoctor.com: "Tasted at this stage this wine still carries some unfermented sugar, so this is a very preliminary tasting note. Once finished, the style should be dry. This has a beautifully pure style on the nose, reminiscent of dessert apples and pears, showing a sweeter and more confident vein. The palate is fresh, laden with polished fruit character, intertwined with gentle acids and minerals, wrapped within a cushion of soft and sweet fruit. One of the few wines from 2017 tasted here today which has finished its fermentation. This has a more minerally confidence than Les Bournais Franc de Pieds, tasted alongside, with a mineral-dusted apple and pear aromatic profile. 2017 Nicolas Joly "Les Vieux Clos" Savennières

Joel B Payne writes: "If any producer has reached mythical status on the Loire, it is certainly Nicolas Joly. He is known to many, even to those who have never tasted a single glass of his wine, as the leading latter-day partisan of Rudolf Steiner’s agricultural philosophy. Given that he produces only 40,000 bottles from their 15 hectares of vineyard, it is not surprising that many wine lovers may never have even seen one."

95-97 points Chris Kissack the Winedoctor.com: Tasted at this stage this wine still carries some unfermented sugar, so this is a very preliminary tasting note. The expectation is that there will still be some residual sugar once finished. This is certainly a step up from Le Bouchet and Les Tuffeaux in the same vintage, the nose simply brimming with character, all tangerine zest and citrus oils, physalis and kumquat, wrapped in a powdery, chalky substance. The expectation is that there will still be some residual sugar once finished. I get plenty of stony peach and apricot fruit on the nose, the wine clearly displaying a ripe profile. Once finished, the style should be dry. It has a very elegant and restrained style, with confit pear and apple fruits, dressed with a with salty substance, and a fresh peach-leaf lift.
