2009 Castello del Terriccio "Lupicaia" Toscana (Pre-Arrival, Previously $180)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Lupicaia (mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Petit Verdot) bares the trademark aromas of eucalyptus thanks to the soaring trees that line the perimeter of the vineyard. Dried salvia, black fruit, crushed mineral and barbecue ash are part of the complex embroidery of this gorgeous wine. The 2009 vintage shows stunning elegance and balance and is not to be missed. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2035. (ML)" (08/2013) 95 points Vinous: "Beautifully resonant in the glass, the 2009 Lupicaia is a standout. ...

2009 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Decanter: "What I love about GPL is that you get so much Pauillac power, pulse and finesse, but with an approachability that makes it enjoyable even at 10 years old. This is still young, unquestionably, but the tannins are full of life and providing a launch pad for the ripe black fruits, while pencil lead and smoked oak round things out. (JA)" (02/2019) 95 points James Suckling: "Dark and delicately spicy this a very complete medium-full bodied 2009 that's not a jot too ripe or too firm. Beautiful balance through the long polished finish. Dr ...

2009 Calera "Selleck" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another highlight among these new releases, the 2009 Pinot Noir Selleck Vineyard is made in a much more fruit-driven style than some of the other Pinots in this lineup. It boasts stunning depth and richness, but in the classic Calera style that never abandons a sense of structural finesse. Juicy dark berries, hard candy, flowers and herbs wrap around the rich, textured finish. This is yet another dazzling Pinot from Calera. Selleck is a site with a south/southwestern exposure. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. Rea ...

2009 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Wine Spectator: "Sinewy and reserved, with a light dusting of cocoa powder over the tangy damson plum, red licorice and cassis notes. The long, supple finish, with a lovely wafting note of Lapsang souchong tea, is packed with minerality and tight-grained tannins that will need time to fully evolve. One of the more backward 2009s, though this should pick up steam in the cellar. (JM)" (11/2011) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Considered by Paul-Vincent to be a hypothetical blend of the '05 and the '07, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape was ...

2009 Les Pagodes de Cos, St-Estèphe

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2009 Pagodes De Cos is a blockbuster that I wish I had more of in the cellar. A blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest mostly Merlot (there’s a small amount of Petit Verdot) brought up in roughly 50% new French oak, its deep purple/plum color is followed by a smorgasbord of black raspberry and kirsch like fruits, spice box, dried flowers and licorice. With a huge mid-palate, sweet, sweet tannin, beautiful purity of fruit, and a great finish, it’s an incredibly sexy, satisfying second wine that will keep for another 10-15 ...

2009 Shafer "Relentless" Napa Valley Syrah

95 points Wine Spectator: " Brimming with dark, rich berry, loamy earth, crushed rock and espresso, this is a powerful expression that's also tapered and sophisticated, ending with all kinds of subtle nuances that come alive on the finish. Syrah and Petite Sirah. Best from 2013 through 2024. (JL)" (02/2013) 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A field blend of 82% Syrah and 18% Petite Sirah that saw 30 months in 100% new French oak barrels, the 2009 Relentless is always a supremely rich, full-flavored effort that somehow manages to stay in check and deliver a beau ...

2009 Araujo "Altagracia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Altagracia is a rich, textured wine layered with perfumed red fruit. Ripe, silky tannins frame the long, exceptional finish. The 2009 impresses for its breadth and volume, all while maintaining a very classic profile. The delineation of the 2008 is missing, but in exchange readers will find a soft, supple wine loaded with class. In 2009 the blend is 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6% Malbec. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. (AG)" (12/2011) 92 points Stephen T ...

2009 Mount Eden "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot): Deep ruby. Powerful, smoke-accented cherry and blackcurrant aromas are energized by zesty minerals, picking up pipe tobacco, cedar and dried rose nuances with air. Fleshy and broad but focused too, offering intense dark berry flavors and a suggestion of bitter chocolate. A sweet vanilla quality rounds out the impressively persistent finish, which shows superb clarity and solid but well-knit tannins. (JR)" (12/2013) 92 point ...

2009 Fernando Remirez de Ganuza Rioja Reserva

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The eponymous 2009 Reserva is a cuvée of Tempranillo and 10% Graciano, with some 5% of the volume extracted from the skin of the white Viura and Malvasia grapes that are used to ferment together, after the vinification of the white is done. As is usually the case here, it fermented in oak vats and went through malolactic in new barrels (mostly French) where it aged for two years. The difference between this wine and the Fincas from the same year is basically the vineyards used, which is a personal taste criteria ...

2009 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir

93 points Wine Spectator: "The best Hanzell Pinot in a while. Fresh and snappy, offering firm tannins and a core of mineral-laced wild berry, mocha, cedar and dried berry notes. Shows great structure, depth, focus and persistence. A great cellar choice. Drink now through 2022. (JL, Web-2012) " 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Hanzell Pinots age for a long time and are not particularly appealing in youth. This is dry and rustic, with flavors of cola, baked cherry pie and spice set into hefty tannins. It's made in a contrarian style to today's tastes. This is ...

2009 Viader Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Made from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc, it has every hallmark of a young Napa Valley Bordeaux blend. It’s dry, smooth and complex in tannins, with balancing acidity and an incredible array of flavors, including blackberry, black currant, cherry, chocolate, dried herb, smoky oak and spice. It has that important but hard-to-define quality of sophistication. It’s delicious now, and it should develop in the bottle for at least 10 years. 2009 Viader "V" Napa Valley Red

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(a 60/40 blend of petit verdot and cabernet sauvignon): Medium red. Aromas of cherry, redcurrant, plum, licorice, nutty oak, herbs and pepper, with a riper chocolatey element emerging with air. Juicy red berry and spice flavors lead to a very firm finish featuring serious tannic spine. This should be held a few years. Viader told me that the estate has had its own bottling equipment since 2004, which is unusual for a small family winery. (ST)" (05/2012)

Possessing full-bodied richness, sweet tannin and thrilling purity, it can be enjoyed now for its exuberant character, but will also evolve gracefully going forward. Dark red fruit, flowers, spices and licorice are some of the many notes that emerge from this impeccable, totally classy wine. It can be enjoyed now, but there is more than enough freshness to allow the wine to age gracefully for a number of years. Darker notes of tar and iron add considerable depth and muscle to the finish. 2009 Domaine de la Janasse "Chaupin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

An absolutely magnificent wine, it scored a good four points higher this year, and it is unusual for me to vary that much from one tasting to the next. 2009 Gemstone Yountville Bordeaux Blend

2009 Tor Kenward Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Tor Kenward specializes in single-vineyard Cabs, but like in 2005, they found that their single vineyard sources combined to create an exceptional cuvee that represents the best of Napa Valley. Its earthy, spicy nose is filled with blackberry fruit and just a hint of mint, and the palate is flush with deep black, round fruits upfront and on the mid-palate, framed by supple tannins that firm up a bit on the finish, savory herbs and clove-cinnamon spice. There's a sense of refinement underneath the raw power, and the finish holds on expressively. The restrained intense and strikingly well-detailed medium-bodied flavors possess an abundance of mouth coating extract that buffers the firm tannic spine on the impressively complex, long and exquisitely balanced finish." 2009 Jean Bourdy Château-Chalon (620ml)

From Bourdy: "The only grape variety used to make Château Chalon, along with all Vin Jaune, is the Savagnin, which amongst other names used to be called 'Le Naturé' or 'Fromentin'. Its origin is mysterious. From a botanical point of view, it is closely related to the Klevener d'Heiligenstein grape which is cultivated in Alsace and is part of the Traminer family. Legend has it that the grape variety is Hungarian in origin, or perhaps Spanish, but there is no firm evidence for these claims. Historic documents suggest that savagnin was already being cultiva ...

In 2009, the final blend was Tempranillo with 19% Mazuelo (or Cariñena), one of the highest percentages of Mazuelo ever. The grapes are now sourced from the La Plana vineyard within the Ygay estate, one of the higher-altitude plots at 485 meters.
