2017 Domaine la Croix Belle "Caringole" Côtes de Thongue Rouge

Just outside the city of Montpellier lie the vineyards of La Croix Belle, a family owned and operated Domaine that traces it roots in the region through more than two centuries. Francoise and Jacques Boyer assumed control of the property in the late 1970s with an eye towards making clean expressive wines that reflect the region. A lot of replanting was done, yields were lowered and modern winemaking techniques and facilities were adopted. This eye for detail had delivered us some of the freshest and most compelling values of the season. The Caringole ...

2017 Les Vignerons de Fontès "Prieuré Saint-Hippolyte" Languedoc Rosé

Les Vignerons de Fontès is a cooperative winemaking facility in the hills outside the village of Pezenas in the Languedoc. Oenologist Corinne Pastourel oversees the project, which has a host of growers spread throughout the region over a range of soils including schist, basalt, limestone, and clay. Thirty of these growers formed the cooperative in the 1930s, and now their numbers surpass 200. K&L co-founder Clyde Beffa met Corinne years ago and forged the relationship that would bring us some of our most popular value wines coming from the south of Franc ...

2017 Montmassot Picpoul de Pinet

90 points Decanter: "A fresh and zippy mouthful of concentrated and fragrant lime peel and grapefruit. Lovely balance and concentration." (02/2018) K&L Notes: The appellation of Picpoul de Pinet covers about 3,000 acres just off the coast of the Mediterranean. It is famous for two things, oysters and this wine of origin, Picpoul. Picpoul itself is the grape and means "lip stinger," which has become a running joke in our Hollywood store. Whenever we taste a new Picpoul we ask each other if it "pics your poul?" We want to know if it has the vibrancy and ...

2017 Chateau de L'Ou Côtes de Roussillon Rosé (Previously $17)

Jancis Robinson: "Wild-salmon colour. Orange liqueur tinted through nose and palate with a dry, tangy goji-berry flavour, somewhere between sweet and earthy. Touch garrigue and pink-peppercorn spiciness tucked deep inside the core. A bit wild. A wine that would go well with rustic charcuterie and home-smoked fish. (TC)" (10/2018) K&L Notes: Séverine Bourrier came to winemaking through her own passion for the subject, not having the family history associated with so many winemakers. She studied oenology in school and worked in Bordeaux for a decade. Aft ...

2015 Domaine Aubaï Mema "Liverna" Gard Rouge (Previously $13)

An organically farmed, naturally made Grenache-Cabernet-Carignan blend from Aubais, a small medieval village south of Nîmes. Winemaker Mark Haynes may be many things: entrepreneur, winemaker, tango dancer; but there is one thing that he is not--conventional. Mark is a spirited man who came to winemaking late in life when he realized that so many producers in the Gard region were turning their backs on winemaking and farming. The region is in the south of France about 30 minutes from Nîmes. It was his summer home in his childhood and he always had a fondn ...

2016 Nicolas Idiart "1911" Vin de France Rouge (Previously $14)

Nicolas Idiart, winemaker and founder of Maison Idiart, grew up with a passion for wine, which he acquired from his father and grandfather. After graduating from winemaking school at Blanquefort in Bordeaux, Nicolas' enthusiasm for Loire wines brought him to work in Chinon, Touraine, and Muscadet, with stints further afield in Australia and New Zealand. Never quite sure where his niche was, he moved in to the sales side of the wine business, mainly in North America. After 7 long and ultimately unsatisfying years of sales, he decided to go back to winemak ...

2015 Château Saint Jacques d'Albas "Le Chateau d'Albas" Minervois (Previously $15)

Jancis Robinson: "Still-dark crimson. Nicely married nose. Spicy, well-integrated black fruits – although more evolved than obvious either Syrah or Grenache. Very sweet start and slightly hot end. Quite structured – presumably thanks to the Syrah. No hurry to drink this with its fine tannins in abundance. And if you serve it now, ensure there's some food with it. 16+/20 points. (JR)" (08/2018) K&L Notes: Situated to the east of the walled city of Carcassonne and in the shadow of the Montagne Noire (Black Mountains) lies Minervois. The village of Laure ...
