2017 Domaine de Millet Colombard-Ugni Blanc Côtes de Gascogne Blanc

Côtes de Gascogne is primarily known for the production of Armagnac; it wasn’t until the last 20 years or so that producers began to take table wine production seriously. Traditionally, these wines would have been distilled into Armagnac. Producers found that by fermenting at lower temperatures in stainless steel, they could develop and preserve more powerful aromatics. Though yields are high, costs have stayed low and the wines are consequently some of the best bargain whites in France. Domaine de Millet is first and foremost an Armagnac producer. They ...

2017 Domaine la Croix Belle "Caringole" Côtes de Thongue Rouge

Just outside the city of Montpellier lie the vineyards of La Croix Belle, a family owned and operated Domaine that traces it roots in the region through more than two centuries. Francoise and Jacques Boyer assumed control of the property in the late 1970s with an eye towards making clean expressive wines that reflect the region. A lot of replanting was done, yields were lowered and modern winemaking techniques and facilities were adopted. This eye for detail had delivered us some of the freshest and most compelling values of the season. The Caringole ...

2018 Pedro Martinez Alesanco Rosado Rioja

Based in the Rioja Alta village of Badarán, Martínez Alesanco is a truly original bodega producing tasty, characterful wine for laughably low prices. They grow all their own grapes in their home village of Badarán, one of the coldest zones of Rioja Alta. The vineyards are closer to the Sierra de la Demanda mountains, a range whose elevation and visible snow covered peaks are even more dramatic than the Sierra Cantabria range to the north. Martínez Alesanco's Rosado is made from Garnacha and white Viura grapes in a typical "clarete" style for which this ...

2017 Verdeal "Ayre" Verdejo Rueda

James Suckling: "Slightly lifted tropical-fruit perfume and a wealth of crunchy, fleshy fruit on the palate. Brisk, bright and juicy. Drink now." (08/2018) K&L Notes: Produced from primarily estate-grown Verdejo, just outside the village of La Seca ("the cradle of Verdejo" as the sign states!), this is a wonderful expression of Rueda. Verdejo, in its refreshing, cleanly fruited profile and tropical leanings, mimics Sauvignon Blanc, without any overt green notes or the occasional blowsiness of some New World examples. Ayre's aromas of white peach and fr ...

2018 Domaine des Côtes Blanches Sancerre Rosé (375ml)

Made by the Millet family who have been running the estate for five generations. Vigneron Nicolas Millet has taken the helm of this family operation, originally established in the 1930s, and began moving the winemaking toward organics in 2008. Nicolas makes wonderful blancs and rouges but the rosé is always a standout in the category. The Côtes Blanches refers to the stony white soils found on the slopes of Sancerre in the heart of France. An organically farmed, naturally made Grenache-Cabernet-Carignan blend from Aubais, a small medieval village south of Nîmes.
