93 points Wine Enthusiast: "There is a hint of wet chalk stone on the nose, along with crisp apple and a touch of lemon. The palate then amplifies both the chalky impression and the creamy mellow richness of the apple and the autolysis. This is restrained but very classic, understated but deeply satisfying with its creamy mousse, a hint of stone and the fruit-accentuated backdrop. The mousse is fine and the finish is wonderfully dry. (AK)" (11/2018) 90 points Vinous: "Pale straw with a persistent mousse. White stone fruit and fresh citrus on the delica...

92 points Wine & Spirits: "A selection of Riesling named for the estate’s founder, this grows on clay-limestone soils, mostly around the village of Eguisheim. It’s a rich wine with enough limestone abrasion to the acidity that it feels clean and fresh, the generously concentrated flavors of lemon and golden apple edged with bitter notes of quinine, dandelion greens and lemon zest. Tingling with energy." (04/2018) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Delightful peachy notes define the fruity friendly nose. The palate adds zesty lemon to this rich fruit to create...

Stephan Reinhardt writes in The Wine Advocate: "The domain of Armand Baur and his son, Arnaud, is located in Eguisheim. They cultivate 18 hectares of vineyards surrounding the picturesque village south of Colmar, including the grand cru vineyards Pfersigberg (one hectare of Gewurztraminer) and Eichberg (2.5 hectares of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Gewürztraminer) as well as the Turckheim Brand (0.5 hectares planted with Riesling and a bit of Pinot Gris). This family domain has been bottling wines for 70 years, and today their vineyards are completely...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Lemon oil and chamomile tincture create a lifted, ethereal nose, preceding richer notions of dried pear and apple. The dry palate reveals concentration and a fluidity that has something balm-like about it. The lemon freshness at the core stays arrow-like and darts across the palate in exciting fashion in a counterpoint to the rich fruit notes. The joy of Riesling is right here. Drink now through 2030.(AK)" (11/2018) Vinous: "Vivid straw-yellow. Fresh aromas of white stone fruit, lemon verbena and chamomile. More linear, citr...

2009 Trimbach "Cuvée Frédéric Émile" Riesling Alsace
Back In Stock!
97 points James Suckling: "This is so open and sexy with blood orange, minerals, flint and stone. Full-bodied and tangy, plus sliced lemon, lime and white peach. Salty with limestone too. Amazing. " (09/2015) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "A benchmark for Alsace Riesling, Cuvée Frédéric Emile is released only as it approaches maturity, and this 2009 is just getting there now. With kerosene aromas and tight, intensely zesty and mineral flavors, it shows the Trimbach approach—that Riesling needs to be bone dry. It's impressive now, but will be even better f...

Jancis Robinson: "A pretty, pale pink. Lacy, persistent bubbles. Clean, fresh and absolutely packed with ripe summer strawberries. Not remotely complex but there is so much delicious fruit in there that who cares?! (TC) " (03/2017) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Based on Pinot Noir the NV Crémant d'Alsace Rosé Brut has a very pale color with just a hint of rosé. Very delicate fruit aroma with hints of red berries and flowers on the very subtle, fresh and elegant nose lead to a full-flavored and quite expressive palate. The wine is quite powerful and ...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Mellow notes of ripe apple have a wonderfully spiky lemon headiness. The more air this gets, the purer the lemon appears. The palate benefits from that same lemon directness. The body is taut and streamlined, seamed with fruit but all bundled around that concentrated lightning lemon core. A full-fruited, wonderfully direct expression of Riesling, the finish on this wine is taut, refreshing and dry. Drink now through 2030. (AK)" (09/2018) 91 points Vinous: "Dark straw with golden tinges. Deep, honeyed aromas of chamomile, pom...

90 points Vinous: "Pale bright yellow. Fresh aromas of mirabelle, nectarine, tangerine, minty herbs and crushed stone. Quite dry, juicy and elegant, featuring stone fruit and mineral flavors sexed up by a flinty nuance on the end. Still a bit youthfully tight, but this is a marvelous Gentil, the best I remember from Hugel in years. It’s a delicious, lovely, fresh wine that, though not the last word in complexity, is easygoing and full of early appeal. A very complex blend of Sylvaner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc/Auxerrois, and Pinot Gris, plus a little Gewürzt...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The pink-colored Crémant d'Alsace Brut Rosé is 100% Pinot Noir sourced from different terroirs between Guebwiller in the South and Molsheim further north. Aged on the lees for 18 months before the disgorgement (13 grams per liter), this is a fruit-driven and charmingly sweetish, yet pretty fine sparkling wine with sweet cherry and red berry flavors. It has good freshness and a delicate tannin grip. The finish is clear, dry and even stimulating. (SR)" (02/2017) Wine Enthusiast: "Subtle strawberry and red-apple notes creat...

96 points James Suckling: "A phenomenal wine with roasted pineapple, dried pear, apple and mineral. Full body, incredible depth of fruit and liveliness with electrifying acidity. It goes on for minutes. Production was half. " (09/2015) 95 points Vinous: "Bright, pale straw-yellow. Deep, intense aromas of yellow apple, mirabelle, jasmine and anise. Dense, suave and tangy, showing a lovely light touch and noteworthy lift to its flavors of apple, pear, minerals and flowers thanks to eye-watering acidity. Finishes cool, vibrant and palate-staining, with li...

92 points James Suckling: "Generous citrus, lychee and jasmine on the nose. Some delicacy. A remarkably crisp and dry gewurztraminer that has a refreshing finish, making it an unusually good food wine for this grape. Drink or hold. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. " (05/2018) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the Herrenwweg area, the intensely citrus colored 2016 Gewurztraminer Turckheim is from vines averaging 47 years old and opens with a very precise and slightly smoky bouquet with lovely spicy Gewurtz notes. Full-bodied yet clean...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Orange blossom, Mandarin and jasmine create a beguiling perfume on the nose of this wine. The palate immediately convinces, with lemon zestiness that counters and accompanies the aromatic riches. Orange zest, more summer blossom and even saltiness take turns to dazzle in this aromatic marvel of a wine. A creamy element accentuates and unites the freshness of the aromatic strands. Drink 2020–2035. " (11/2019) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From heavy Jurassic limestone soils, the sample of the 2017 Alsace Grand ...

Jancis Robinson: "A pretty, pale pink. Lacy, persistent bubbles. Clean, fresh and absolutely packed with ripe summer strawberries. Not remotely complex but there is so much delicious fruit in there that who cares?! 16/20 points. (TC)" (03/2017) Wine Enthusiast: "A creamy, almost buttery note appears alongside the strawberry aroma on the nose. The palate is full of lively, frothy and soft fizz that underlines this richness while hints of red apple and lemon add some fruitiness. This foams in its roundness all the way to the dry finish. (AK)" (11/2018) ...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Slight smoke mixes in the nose of this wine, with lifted mandarin-peel notes. The dry palate is streamlined and has uncommon lightness. It's weightless but concentrated, with full and bright citrus lift and a lively core brimming with lemon, bergamot and lime. The finish is wonderfully clean. This will drink well through 2024, at least. (AK)" (11/2016) 90 points James Suckling: "In contrast to the “Classic” this is still quite closed, due to the influence of the clay-rich Keuper marl soil of the Schoenenbourg. Dominant aroma...

Wine Enthusiast: "There is something candied, almost confected about the pretty Mirabelle fruit on the nose. The palate is fresh with a slightly bitter edge of tartness. This might benefit from a little more bottle age to integrate. (AK) " (11/2018) K&L Notes: A blend of 80% Pinot Blanc and 20% Riesling. Full of tiny bubbles and lemony freshness. An elegant sparkler for less than $20!

99 points James Suckling: "A stunning wine with ethereal aromas of sliced apple, sliced pear and mineral character. Flowers and honeysuckle too. Full-bodied, very tight and dense. It goes so deep and beautiful. Bright and tangy acidity. Has the depth of a great vintage of grand cru Burgundy but is so Clos Ste. Hune in character. Muscularly feminine and breathtaking. Available in 2019." (09/2015) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Riesling Clos Ste Hune is clear and intense on the concentrated nose, offering ripe white-fruit aromas. On t...

Wine Enthusiast: "An aromatic hint of lime on the nose of this wine promises freshness. The palate, however, focuses on mellow notes of fresh red apple. The body is slender, refreshing and has a juicy, dry finish. (AK)" (08/2019)

2008 Trimbach "Cuvée Frédéric Émile" Riesling Alsace
Back In Stock!
96 points Decanter: "This prestige cuvée is named after the man who started this Alsace wine dynasty, now in the hands of the 13th generation. Always a near-peerless Riesling, this new release is bone dry, structured and elegant, with savoury, nutty, autumnal notes and tangy citrus acidity. It's poised, powerful, complex and concentrated, with a seam of brisk yuzu-like acidity to complement the creamy nougat notes. Drinking Window 2018 - 2030. (TG) " (02/2018) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile is now in t...

93 points James Suckling: "A complex and maturing Gewurztraminer with a lot of subtle candied fruit and a hint of spices. This almost-dry wine has fascinating textural complexity and clean mineral acidity, allowing the wine to carry a tiny hint of bitterness at the long dry finish." (05/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Selected and harvested at the peak of the grapes's ripeness the 2012 Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs Ribeaupierre is very clear and intensely aromatic on the fresh and nobly perfumed nose where lime and orange oil flavo...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Very ripe notes of pear and peach dominate the nose, while the palate brims with freshness. The concentrated body has texture from the zestiness but also that background of ripe richness. It finishes completely dry, with a streak of mandarin on the long finish. (AI)" (08/2018) John Gilman: "The 2016 Gewurztraminer from Maison Trimbach is a lovely example of this varietal in today’s age of global warming. The wine has been fermented quite dry, but consequently comes in at fourteen percent octane, but still retains good precis...

Ian D'Agata writes: "In 2017, Domaine Weinbach moved to Diam corks for all their entry-level wines. Also different that year was that due to difficult weather, no Gewürz Altenbourg or Mambourg were made, and what few grapes were harvested were added to the Gewürz Cuvée Laurence blend (an absolute knockout, as always). Instead, the estate made not one but two Pinot Noirs in 2017 (both very successful, to my mind)."

The Sparr winery has more than a little experience making wine in Alsace, having been founded by Jean Sparr back in the ’80s—the 1680s. Nine successive generations have labored to maintain and expand their wine estate. In more recent news, young Pierre Sparr, aged 20, assumed responsibilities for the winery in the early twentieth century. With a forward-thinking motto of “invest, progress, and maintain,” Pierre became a pioneer in estate bottling in Alsace. He maintained a sense of determination through World War II, and rebuilt his family’s beautiful do...

91 points Vinous: "Luminous straw. Delicate spicy nuances and sweet apple and pear aromas on the inviting nose. Then flavors similar to the aromas, and above-average acidity for a wine made with so much Auxerrois (this is a blend of 80% Auxerrois and 20% Pinot Blanc). Unlike Trimbach’s 2017 Sylvaner, this is made for the most part with bought grapes (though Pierre Trimbach told me he would like to limit the bought grapes to 50% of the total). No matter – it’s an outstanding Auxerrois wine. (ID)" (01/2019) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Faint notes of gree...

91 points James Suckling: " Bright and supple at the same time. This Gewurztraminer is light years removed from the sweet showgirl wines that dominate the market. The lychee and Turkish-delight character of the grape only shows at the finish." (05/2018) 91 points Vinous: "Bright straw-gold. Delicate but enticing aromas of pineapple, marzipan, sweet spices and grapefruit nectar, plus a touch of smoky grilled nuts that complements rather than overwhelms the wine. Suave and complex, this showcases lovely balance and a captivating sweet-sour quality on th...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Displaying great purity, the 2000 Tokay-Pinot Gris Herrenweg de Turckheim Vendanges Tardives offers intense aromas of smoky apricots. Loads of botrytis can be found in this fresh, medium to full-bodied wine's personality. Oily-textured, it reveals a lively acid streak that lightens the load of its considerable residual sugar. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020. (PR)" (10/2002) 90-92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: " Reticent aromas of marmalade, grapefruit and spice; some volatile acidity lifts ...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Wet stone and fresh lemon are faint but distinct on the nose. A pure lemon flavor streaks across the slender, taut palate, with a comet-like spray of freshness. This wine is dry and, if it weren't for juicy glimpses of ripe lemon, would be almost austere. (AK)" (08/2018) 91 points Vinous: "Pale straw with green tinges. Lemon, minerals and fresh herbs on the nose and palate. Juicy and vibrant, delivering zingy, lemony bite on the long finish. Boasts lively but harmonious acidity that really extends the fresh citrus and stony ...

91 points Vinous: "Bright straw. Rich aromas and flavors of lychee, baked apple, orange peel and aromatic herbs. Juicy and ripe; the long, vibrant finish offers a hint of residual sweetness. Still a little closed, but this will likely improve further with another year or two in the bottle. About 70% bought and 30% estate grapes. I like this. (ID)" (01/2019) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Lithe and juicy, this well-balanced Pinot Gris is backed by sleek acidity that focuses the flavors of melon, pickled ginger, star fruit and mineral. Clean-cut finish. Dri...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Sleek and finely knit, with a racy backbone of acidity and a subtle, honeyed overtone to the flavors of crunchy white peach, preserved lemon, lanolin and pine. Long and creamy on the minerally finish. Drink now through 2029." (03/2019) 92 points James Suckling: "A classic Alsace dry riesling with substance and crispness. The lemon and delicately earthy character adds a lot of interest. The finish is long and clean. Attractive as it is now, you can also drink in 2019 and 2020. This will be even more harmonious and be a great f...

Wine Enthusiast: "Spicy grape and honeysuckle notes give this wine an aromatic bouquet. The light-bodied palate presents balanced freshness. It ends dry and with a sense of ease. *Best Buy* (AK)" (04/2019)

2015 Trimbach "Sélection Vieilles Vignes" Riesling Alsace
New!
93 points Wine Spectator: "The gorgeous, mineral-laced nose leads to a mouthwatering range of Honeycrisp apple, nectarine, ginger pastry cream, lemon curd, smoke and star anise flavors in this long and creamy white. Supple, displaying beautiful tension from the finely meshed, racy acidity." (12/2018) 92 points James Suckling: "Lots of spice, clove and lemon-rind character on the nose. Full-bodied, layered and flavorful with plenty of citrus and spice on the aftertaste. Yet remains subtle and fine. " (12/2016) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: ...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Gewurztraminer Réserve is beautifully clear and defined on the nose, displaying an intense tropical fruit bouquet (passion fruit). Creamy and intense on the palate, this is a well-structured, medium-sweet Gewurtz with remarkable finesse and very fine tannins. Tasted October 2018. (SR)" (10/2018) K&L Notes: From importer Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant: "The small family domaine in France that works traditionally using techniques and savoir faire passed down across multiple generations is under serious threa...

90 points James Suckling: "A joyful dry white that's brimming with fruit aromas, from pears to lychee to flowers. A medium body with a very attractive balance of juicy fruit and fresh acidity. A properly dry finish." (05/2018) 90 points Vinous: "Luminous pale straw-green. Delicious aromas and flavors of apple, nectarine, chamomile and gentle spices. Fruity, juicy and refined; harmonious acidity lifts the stone fruit and mineral nuances. A very complex blend of 40% Sylvaner, plus mostly Pinot Blanc Auxerrois, Riesling, and Pinot Gris, and a little Gewür...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "The spiky tartness of ripe passion fruit shoots vivid aroma from the glass. This wine offers something cool and distant amid the ripe tangerine notes that follow. Vivid and bright, the palate is illuminated with projections of tangerine toned down with lime. The wine is slender but bold, gentle but very alive. It finishes dry and utterly moreish. (AK)" (08/2019) 91 points James Suckling: "Cinnamon, caramel, tarte tatin, dried papaya and pineapple. Round and quite rich on the palate with lots of dried peaches and spicy undert...

André Ostertag marches to the beat of his own drum, but the wines he crafts carry that rhythm in a most beguiling way. He is not afraid to take risks, but he knows exactly what he's aiming for in the cellar. Ostertag is not shy about oak usage, for which he exclusively sources locally from the Vosges Mountains. His wines are some of the most versatile in Alsace, given that he ferments almost everything completely dry. The Riesling "Les Jardins" comes from a 2.5-ha plot of 30+-year-old vines on a mix of the four different soil types.
Price: $29.99

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A touch of ripe Mirabelle plum joins the pear fruit on the nose. The resolutely dry palate holds them tight on a very concentrated, fresh but also earthy body. Taut and clean, this needs a little more time in bottle. The finish is whistle-clean.(AK)" (08/2018)

2013 Trimbach Clos Ste Hune Riesling Alsace
Back In Stock!
96 points John Gilman: "The 2013 vintage of Clos Ste. Hune is one of the finest young vintages of this great wine that I have ever had the pleasure to taste. As the US importer was out of sample bottles of this wine, Jean Trimbach very kindly intervened and arranged for a sample magnum to be sent, which made some of my friends very happy when I shared it with them! The wine is nicely cool in profile in 2013, coming in at 12.5 percent octane and offering up beautiful precision in its youthful bouquet of pink grapefruit, tart orange, a touch of petrol, a b...

Wine Spectator: "Light-bodied and tangy, this dry Muscat shows notes of orange blossom and orange granita, with hints of lemongrass and spice. (Web-2014) (AN)"
Price: $25.99

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Alsace Grand Cru Schlossberg Riesling is clear and fresh on the nose, with Victoria pineapple aromas. Lush and aromatic on the palate, this is a very intense, structured, refined and salty Schlossberg with a firm (tannin) structure and long finish. Tasted October 2018. (SR)" (10/2018) 92 points Vinous: "Lively straw-green. Ripe pineapple, apricot, and melon on the nose and in the mouth are lifted by hints of crushed rocks and jasmine. Closes long and vibrant, with persistent reminders of powdered stone...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A dried-orange-peel headiness on the nose reveals some development. This orange-peel notion gains more currency on the concentrated palate where a streak of freshness accommodates the slight lick of residual sweetness with ease and charm. Concentrated, layered and intense, it shows what a little bottle age does to Gewurztraminer. Lovely now, it's sure to develop further. (AN)" (08/2018) 91 points James Suckling: "A slew of candied fruits and Turkish delight on the nose, which doesn't leave you in any doubt about the grape va...

93 points James Suckling: "A wonderful Riesling with focus and excitement. Sliced apple, spice and mineral. Full body, tangy acidity. Very long and intense. A standard-bearer. Drink or hold." (09/2015) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Floral and spice notes draw you into the glass of this well-cut Riesling, where a streak of smoky minerality underscores flavors of yellow peach, pink grapefruit zest and honeycomb. Racy finish. Drink now through 2025. (AN)" (11/2017) Vinous: "Bright yellow. Subtle citrus and mineral aromas are lifted by notes of jasmine and ...

93 points James Suckling: "Has some of the earthy power and complexity of a grand cru. An excellent balance of white-fruit character with robust minerality and crisp acidity, driving the imposing finish. Drink or hold." (05/2018) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The nose is rather closed but gives faint notions of waxy honeycomb. The palate is alive with lemon freshness to counter that textural waxiness that creates the backdrop of the palate. This wine has concentation and impact with its lemony power despite the relative slenderness of the body. The finis...

91 points Vinous: "Luminous green-tinged straw-yellow. The very mineral nose also offers notes of white flowers, ginger and fennel (the latter typical of the Dudenstein site). The calcaire soils shows off well in the mouth, juicy acidity carrying the orchard fruit and lime flavors on the long saline back end. One of the best entry-level Rieslings from Boxler in recent memory (it is released in Europe as a Riesling Reserve), perhaps because it is made with grapes from many different vineyards that would normally have gone into making other wines (in 2017,...
