93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Black-cherry aromas and flavors are typical of this famous vineyard. They sing from this wine where they are balanced with serious tannins and acidity. The wine needs time and should not be drunk before 2021. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (03/2019) 92 points Vinous: "Bright purple. A highly complex, expansive bouquet evokes ripe cherry and black raspberry, along with building floral and baking spice notes. Coats the palate with sweet red/blue fruit, violet pastille, licorice and spicecake flavors that become more lively on the ba...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Structured and full of tannins, this wine has a good future. It is not ready yet, but the density of the wine will soften to give great richness, with layers of black fruits, acidity and spice from the old-wood aging. Drink from 2021." (03/2019) 91 points Vinous: "Shimmering ruby. Highly perfumed black raspberry, licorice and floral pastille aromas pick up a mineral nuance with air. Chewy and energetic on the palate, offering incisive black and blue fruit flavors that show very good depth, breadth and spicy lift. Dark fruit ...

2018 Fabien Collonge Beaujolais Rosé
Top Pick!
Fabien Collange is a young winemaker from Beaujoalis. We met him on our recent trip to the region and he presented us with a rosé of Gamay that absolutely knocked our socks off. There is no pretense in his approach to winemaking: his goals are to create terroir-driven wines that are both fun and enjoyable. This is a wine that's fresh, crisp, and clean on the palate with a supple weight and pure flavors of fresh strawberries and spice. This is the affordable rosé you need a case of for the warm months, and maybe a few bottles for the pleasanter fall eveni...

94 points James Suckling: "Some very stony and flinty aromas with graphite. Red and dark plums, too. Smells fresh and very complex already. The palate has great density and a fine, compressed tannin texture, as well as a very focused finish. Spiced black cherries and blackberries, cassis and dark chocolate to close. Short carbonic maceration and juice is racked off during the carbonic process. A captivatingly powerful but focused Morgon. No Côte du Puy due to the hail in 2017. Best from 2020. " (02/2018) 93 points Vinous: "Shimmering violet color. Spic...

2017 Jean-Michel Dupre "1935" Morgon
Top Pick!
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Vines that are more than 80 years old are rare even in Beaujolais, which has many longstanding vineyards. This wine shows firm concentration and ripe tannins that are balanced by fresh acidity and black-currant flavors. (RV)" (03/2019)

91 points Vinous: "Brilliant ruby. Mineral-tinged raspberry and lavender aromas show excellent clarity and pick up a hint of white pepper with air. Juicy, well-delineated red berry flavors take a deeper turn in the mid-palate, picking up hints of bitter cherry and licorice. Smoothly blends power and finesse and finishes sappy, gently sweet and very long, with a subtle hint of talc-y tannins. (JR)" (03/2018) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "The name of this cuvée refers to the natural yeast used in fermentation. Bottled without added sulfur, the wine is soft...

93 points Vinous: "Brilliant violet. A powerful, mineral-accented bouquet evokes ripe red/dark berries, potpourri and allspice, and a floral nuance builds in the glass. Bright, sappy and appealingly sweet, offering concentrated black raspberry, boysenberry and violet pastille flavors that tighten up slowly with aeration. Shows impressive depth as well as energy and closes smooth, mineral and very long, leaving a sexy floral note behind.(JR)" (10/2019) 92 points James Suckling: "A bright and fun red with granite and dark-berry aromas as well as dried st...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of sweet cassis, cherries and plums mingle with sapid nuances of smoke and soil in a complex bouquet, introducing the 2017 Morgon Antique, a medium-bodied, supple and succulent wine that's charming and accessible.(WK)" (09/2018) K&L Notes: Fabien Collonge is a young winemaker from Beaujoalis who we met on our recent trip to the region. There is no pretense in his approach to winemaking; his goals are to create terroir-driven wines that are both fun and enjoyable.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Brouilly Améthyste reveals notes of licorice and sweet cherries. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, chewy and rustic but displays creditable balance and concentration. (WK)" (09/2018)
Price: $15.99

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Morgon is a cuvée that's not imported to the USA, but it's a fine wine, bursting with aromas of juicy cherries, spices and dried flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with melting tannins, succulent acids and a ripe core of fruit. This is a charming Morgon that's already drinking well. (WK)" (08/2019) K&L Notes: Neal Martin writes the following of Jean Foillard's wines: "...these are extremely well crafted, low-intervention wines using minimal SO2, used barrels and no fi...

2017 Domaine du Vissoux (Pierre-Marie Chermette) Moulin-à-Vent "Les Trois Roches"
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "A super expressive, exultant nose with attractive, ripe strawberries, wild cherries and raspberries on offer. The palate has wildly attractive fruit presence with a very impressive air of purity and focus. Great length and detail here. Great wine. Drink or hold." (01/2019) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Moulin-à-Vent Les Trois Roches is superb—and likely the king of the cellar chez Chermette this year—wafting from the glass with a beautiful bouquet of raspberries, potpourri, orange rind and rose petal. On ...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Côte de Brouilly is still a little closed after its recent bottling, but it's a promising wine in the making, unwinding in the glass with scents of cherries, plums, licorice and rich soil tones, complemented by floral top notes that blossom as the wine sits in the glass. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and satiny, with a textural, enveloping profile, a deep and voluminous core, ripe but succulent acids and powdery structuring tannins. The 2018 vintage has turned out well for the Geoff...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Morgon Eponym—which derives from the lieu-dit Charmes—wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, dark chocolate, violets and rose petals. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a layered core, succulent acids and melting tannins. Open-knit and giving, this is a charming Eponym that's a touch more generous and sun-kissed than the 2016 rendition. (WK)" (08/2019) 93 points Vinous: "Deep magenta. Black raspberry, cherry, violet, licorice and a hint of musky earth on the deeply...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Named after the amethyst crystal that lies as a layer in the soil of the vineyard, this is a tightly structured wine. Rich tannins and black fruits are brought into relief by the young, tight acidity. Age at least until the end of 2019. (RV)" (03/2019)

92 points Vinous: "Lurid violet. Smoke- and spice-accented black raspberry and violet aromas are complemented by zesty minerals. Juicy red/dark berry flavors show very good depth and sharp delineation. Floral pastille and licorice nuances emerge with aeration and carry through the impressively persistent finish, which features easygoing tannins and resonating floral and mineral character. Here's a Beaujolais-Villages that could easily stand alongside many, if not most, Cru wines in this vintage. (JR)" (10/2019)

92 points Vinous: "Deep, bright-hued violet. Fresh dark berries, candied flowers, allspice and a hint of blood orange on the expansive nose. Sappy and appealingly sweet, offering pliant cherry and black raspberry flavors that deepen and spread out quickly with air. Delivers a suave blend of power and finesse and finishes very long and smooth, with bright, mineral-driven thrust, silky tannins and lingering floral and spice notes.(JR)" (10/2019) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Richer, more voluptuous and larger-scaled than its 2017 counterpart,...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Firm and structured, this rich wine also has considerable tannins. Its solid structure, touches of minerality and youthful acidity all point to a wine in need of aging. Drink from 2020." (03/2019) 90 points Vinous: "Vivid ruby. Spice-accented black/blue fruits on the nose, along with a suggestion of licorice and a smoky mineral element. Ripe boysenberry, bitter cherry and dark chocolate flavors show good depth and a late spicy flourish. Sappy and focused on the penetrating, youthfully tannic finish, which leaves a suggestion...

95 points Decanter: "Marcel Lapierre is something of a hero to the natural wine movement, and his Morgon has been called The Original Natural Wine. This delivers star-bright, sappy, mouthwatering dark fruit with a completely irresistible energy. His wines sell out fast, so buy when you see it.Drinking Window 2017 - 2022.(JA) " (01/2018) 94 points James Suckling: "Nose of fresh violets, cranberries and blue fruit. Fresh on the palate with good balance of seamless tannins with crushed red fruit. Long on the fruit. Very pleasant and lean. From biodynamic...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Patenôtre opted to destem 80% of the crop this year due to hail damage, and the resulting 2017 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes is a great success, unfurling in the glass with a charming bouquet of red cherries, raspberries, dried flowers and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, it’s supple, delicate and giving on the palate, with melting tannins and a fragrant finish. It’s a great success in a challenging year, and it will drink well on release. (WK)" (09/2018) 90 points Wine Spectator: "This light-bodied red shows p...

"Raisins Gaulois" is always fermented and bottled rather quickly before the end of the year. Though not a nouveau, it is similarly easy to drink and refreshing, but with a touch more depth and sophistication. Of course, Lapierre is one of the most regarded producers in Beaujolais and elevates the region's wines to a most serious category. The "Raisins Gaulois" is ebullient with cherry fruit and floral notes and is effortlessly delicious.

93 points John Gilman: "did not know until last year (or had known and forgotten) that the climat of les Garants is down in the valley near Moulin-à-Vent and Clos de la Roilette and used to be sold as Moulin-à-Vent in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The wine is deeper and even more black fruity in personality than the Poncié in 2017, offering up a pure and sappy nose of black cherries, sweet dark berries, dark soil tones, roasted pigeon, a touch of coffee bean and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and complex, with a ful...

93 points James Suckling: "A very ripe and plush wine that has rich raspberries and a touch of red flowers on the nose. The palate has a seriously juicy array of quite powerful, defined tannins. " (01/2019)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Fleurie Poncié hails from a southeast-facing, higher-altitude site that’s typically quite cool, and that’s reflected in its bright, perfumed bouquet of raspberries, rose petals and Griotte cherries, with suggestions of darker fruits emerging with air. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, pure and nicely concentrated, with fine tannins, a bright line of acidity and good length on the finish. (WK)" (09/2018) 92 points Vinous: "Bright magenta. Highly perfumed aromas of ripe red/dark berries, ...

93 points James Suckling: "A very fragrant and polished expression on the nose with a fresh, strawberry and boysenberry edge, as well as a floral layer that also sits fresh. The palate is long, dense and suavely structured. Impressive concentration here. Drink or hold." (01/2019) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Juliénas Beauvernay is lovely, wafting from the glass with alluring aromas of ripe red cherries, sweet soil and spices. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, juicy and open-knit, with tangy acids and a youthfully chewy finish. Wh...

89-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Nicole Chanrion has turned out a 2009 Cote de Brouilly representing, as usual, a blend selected from among six different old vines lots (bottled unfiltered for the U.S.), each of which was harvested the last days of August or beginning of September and came in close to 14% alcohol. Mint chocolate, bittersweet floral perfume, blackberry, cassis, and blueberry in the nose lead to a richly textured and fruited palate with accents of roasted pecan, toasted hazelnut, dark chocolate, peat, and crushed stone..." (08/...

92 points James Suckling: "Crushed violet-like floral notes and a nice oak presence, adding spices and some creaminess to the palate. Plenty of black cherries and fine tannins. Good depth. Drink or hold for four to five years. " (02/2018) 90 points Vinous: "(no stems) Lurid ruby. Spice-accented blackberry and licorice scents show very good clarity and lift. Chewy and energetic in the mouth, offering juicy dark fruit and floral pastille flavors sharpened by a dusty mineral flourish. The floral quality carries through a long, nervy finish that leaves a b...

From the Cru Beaujolais region of Morgon, the Domaine Lapierres's Villié-Morgon vineyard is comprised of decomposed rocks and crumbly schist. Owned and run by Marcel and Mathieu Lapierre, the vines are raised without the use of artificial fertilizers or herbicides; the father-son team have also been experimenting biodynamics on some of their older vines. This natural wine is full of red fruit, with a lushness and freshness that sets it apart from many Beaujolais. If you haven't tried a Cru Beaujolais before, this gem is a great place to start.

92 points Vinous: "Deep, shimmering ruby. Ripe cherry, blue fruit, earth and floral aromas show very good energy and take on a spicy accent that gains strength with air. Juicy and concentrated in the mouth, offering powerful boysenberry and bitter cherry flavors and a sweetening hint of candied violet. Closes supple, broad and quite long, with youthful tannins framing lingering dark fruit and lavender notes. (JR)" (10/2019) K&L Notes: David Schildknecht writes: "The irreplaceable and virtually irrepressible Marcel Lapierre succumbed to unrelenting mela...

92 points James Suckling: "Blackberries and violets. Very attractive with its nicely crafted, fine tannins. A long, fresh palate with plenty of brambly raspberry and blackberry flavors. Concentrated style. Drink or hold. " (02/2018) 91 points Vinous: "(made with 50% whole clusters) Bright violet. Fresh and energetic on the nose and the palate, displaying sappy red fruit and floral pastille qualities and a hint of musky herbs. Sappy and precise, picking up hints of licorice and allspice as the wine opens up. Fine-grained tannins build slowly on a long, ...

90-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Moderate reduction masks the underlying fruit but I doubt that it will last. Otherwise the succulent, dense and powerful flavors evidence a really lovely texture before concluding in a mildly rustic, serious and youthfully austere finish. This too is worth considering provided that you have the patience to allow it at least some time in bottle first. *Outstanding, Top Value*" (01/2018)
