Antech Blanquette de Limoux Brut Nature
Top Pick!
90 points Decanter: "Gentle apple-aniseed aroma and flavour. Clean and persistent with manifest concentration and a bone dry finish. A well made, elegant wine. (2019 DWWA)" (05/2019) K&L Notes: Antech's Brut Nature is produced with no added dosage, which translates to a super clean and crisp glass of bubbles. It is composed of 90% Mauzac, 5% Chenin Blanc and 5% Chardonnay. All harvesting is done by hand. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, and the wine undergoes a 12-month elevage on the lees, à la méthode traditionelle, before being disgorge...

2016 Antech "Emotion" Cremant de Limoux Brut Rosé
Top Pick!
The Antech "Emotion" is a little something different: a blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Mauzac and Pinot Noir from the AOC Crémant de Limoux in the Languedoc region of southern France. Since the 2012 vintage it has been a huge hit with our staff; now it is back, to make our evenings and dinner parties sparkle just that much more. Pale pink hue, fine bead, delicate hints of cherry and strawberry with white floral notes. A crisp, elegant sparkler made in the traditional method, spending 15 months in the bottle before disgorgement. At way less than the p...

2017 Antech "Cuvée Eugenie" Cremant de Limoux
Top Pick!
From the importer: "Limoux is the world's original birthplace of sparkling wine, with the first bubbles produced here in the year 1544, some 150 years before Dom Perignon began making sparkling wine in Champagne. Only 24 wineries exist in Limoux and Antech (pronounced "An-tesh") is by far the region's most celebrated producer, known for the purity and elegance of the sparkling wines they produce. The estate was originally planted to 150 acres six generations ago, and 24 acres have been added over the years. In addition to their estate grapes, for the la...

Outstanding sparkling wine from the Languedoc? Absolutely and resoundingly, YES! There will be those of you who scoff at the price of this wine, and claim that a sparkling wine set so low will never be worth any serious consideration. Well, those of you would be WRONG. One of the rising stars of the Languedoc, Jean Louis Denois makes exciting, world-class wines that nonetheless remain amazingly inexpensive, owing to his location more than anything else. His vineyards sit in the very southwestern corner of France, at the foot of the Pyrenees, and he produ...

2016 Domaine Lafage "Bastide Miraflors" Côtes du Roussillon
Top Pick!
94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A wine that almost always over-delivers, the 2016 Côtes du Roussillon Bastide Miraflors is, I suspect, the finest vintage for this cuvée to date (it’s in the same league as the off-the-charts 2015). A blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache from Lesquerde and Saint Martin de Fenouillet (both in the northern part of the Roussillon), aged all in older barrels and concrete tanks, it boasts rockstar notes of ripe blackberry fruits, spice, dried garrigue, and hints of chocolate. Possessing a full-bodied, layered mouthfeel, sweet tannins, a...

2017 Château de L'Ou "Secret de Schistes" Côtes Catalanes
New!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "One of the gems in the lineup is the 2017 Cotes Catalanes Secret De Schistes which is all Syrah from the higher elevation sites of schist soils. Aged 17 months in new oak, it has a beautiful perfume of crème de cassis, blue fruits, classy oak, and graphite that opens up with time in the glass. Possessing full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannins, and again, this voluptuous, weightless texture, it’s a brilliant wine that will keep for over a decade. This is one of those wines that blends elegance and richness brilliantly. Drink thro...

Domaine Begude is a small family-owned property located high in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Limoux region of the Languedoc. The long, cool growing season lends itself to the production of crisp and delicate wines. From predominantly clay and limestone soils on southeast facing vineyards, this wonderful Chardonnay value contains a dose of Chenin Blanc and is ridiculously easy to love. Organic farming, low yields, and temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation with no oak influence make it possible for the purity of fruit to really shine ...

Jean-Louis Denois "Tradition" Extra Brut Reserve
Top Pick!
Jancis Robinson: "From Limoux, but without Chenin Blanc in the blend it can't be called Crémant de Limoux. Full bodied, showing some lovely development with a neat bead. Mouthfilling citrus tang, and very satisfying. Would put many Champagnes to shame, quite frankly. *Very Good Value* (TC)" (07/2014) K&L Notes: Outstanding sparkling wine from the Languedoc? Absolutely and resoundingly, yes! There may be those who would scoff at the price of this wine, and claim that a sparkling wine set so low could never be worth any serious consideration. 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming from 100% Chardonnay that was aged on Viognier lees, the 2017 Vin de France Novellum boasts sensational notes of ripe citrus, white flowers, and spice, with loads of classic Catalanes salinity and obvious minerality. Aged in 15% new barrels, it’s medium-bodied, has remarkable purity, integrated acidity, and is a total steal at the price. Drink it over the coming 2-4 years." (11/2018) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The medium-bodied 2017 Novellum Chardonnay ages on Viognier lees for textural enrichment, plus 15% of the vo...

2017 Chateau de L'Ou "Infiniment" Côtes Catalanes Rouge
New!
94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Cotes Catalanes Infiniment De L'Ou comes from vines around the estate, which is located on the lower plains of the Roussillon, not too far from the Les Aspres region. Awesome notes of blueberries, crushed violets, incense, toasted bread, and spice all give way to a perfumed, sweetly fruited, seamless red that has no hard edges and beautifully polished tannins. Drink through 2027." (09/2019) K&L Notes: Séverine Bourrier came to winemaking through her own passion for the subject, not having the family history associated w...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Denois’s non-vintage Chardonnay Brut Blanc de Blancs. Legally, this “traditional method” wine is merely a vin mousseux, yet it is in fact a tribute to the terroir of Limoux (whose sparkling wine appellation must be based on the local Blanquette de Limoux a.k.a. Mauzac grape, for which Denois evidently has little respect). It will be hard to find a more delicious and interesting sparkling wine for the price. Ripe apricot, grapefruit, blueberries, and lily in the nose lead to an intensely pit-fruited palate that – despite a ...

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A step up and I’d wager one of the finest whites coming out of the Languedoc, the 2017 Igp Pays D'Oc Falaise Blanc checks in as 40% Chardonnay, 30% Marsanne, 20% Roussanne, and 10% Petit Manseng, all aged 12 months in foudre and demi-muids. Awesome notes of buttered apples and lemon as well as plenty of toasted bread and crushed rock notes give way to a deep, powerful white that has a beautiful texture, flawless balance, good acidity, and a great, great finish. It’s a thrilling, world-class white to enjoy over the coming 4-5 years...

Make this one your house white! Organically certified by Ecocert.

2018 Les Vignerons de Fontès "Prieuré Saint-Hippolyte" Languedoc Rosé
Top Pick!
Les Vignerons de Fontes is a cooperative winemaking facility in the hills outside the village of Pezenas in the Languedoc. Oenologist Corinne Pastourel oversees the project, which has a host of growers spread throughout the region over a range of soils including schist, basalt, limestone, and clay. Thirty of these growers formed the cooperative in the 1930s and now their numbers surpass 200. K&L co-founder Clyde Beffa met Corinne years ago and forged the relationship that would bring us some of our most popular value wines coming from the south of France...

It’s rare to find estate-bottled wines in Picpoul de Pinet, so we are fortunate to have this direct relationship with one of the greats in the region. Made by Guilhem Bascou, whose father, Guy (and founder of the estate) was the president of the Picpoul de Pinet appellation. Both father and son work side by side, while mother Marie-Claude manages the office. The family's 15 acres of Picpoul are planted just west of the Thun Lagoon near the Mediterranean, and the coastal influence is palpable in this lipsmackingly refreshing wine. It's a natural companion...

2017 Domaine de la Réserve d'O "La Réserve d'O" Terrasses du Larzac
Top Pick!
91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The primary production of the estate, the 2017 Terrasses du Larzac La Réserve d’O is a blend of 45% each Grenache and Syrah, plus 10% Cinsault. Aged in tank and amphorae, it's a delicious blend of cherries, raspberries and blueberries with garrigue and violets. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky in texture, with only soft, ephemeral tannins on the finish. With medium to full body, terrific concentration, and notable vibrancy and freshness, drink it over the coming decade." 96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A blend of Grenache and Syrah that was brought up in a mix of clay tanks and 500-liter barrels, the 2017 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Compartir offers an awesome nose of black raspberries, crushed flowers, exotic spices, and earth, with just hints of subtle background oak. This full-bodied beauty has tons of charm, a layered, seamless texture, and enough structure to keep for upward of a decade. It’s just another brilliant wine from this great winemaker." (11/2018)

2018 Montmassot Picpoul de Pinet
Top Pick!
The appellation of Picpoul de Pinet covers about 3000 acres just off the coast of the Mediterranean. It is famous for two things, oysters and this wine of origin Picpoul. Picpoul itself is the grape and means "lip stinger," which has become a running joke in our Hollywood store. Whenever we taste a new Picpoul we ask each other if it "pics your poul?" We want to know if it has the vibrancy and minerality that are the hallmarks of the region. That brings us to the Montmassot, which is produced at the local cooperative in the village of Florensac. It is s...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Soft scents of pressed carnation, plum skin, game meat and curing spice form the nose of this Syrah-Grenache blend. The palate is smooth and creamy at first, but then offers firmly structured tannins that carry through to the dry, gripping close. Ripe fruit flavors abound, with spicy waves of blackberry, plum and boysenberry all dancing through the close. *Best Buy* (LB)" (10/2019) Jeb Dunnuck: "The base red from this estate is the 2017 Côtes du Roussillon Château De L'Ou, a mix of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre brought up al...

2017 Clos de l'Anhel "Lolo de l'Anhel" Corbières
Top Pick!
"My name is Sophie Guiraudon and I am a winemaker since ZERO generation!", says Sophie proudly. Sophie was working in other peoples' wineries in southern France for years. In 2000, Sophie started her own bio-dynamic, organic winery. She wanted to grow grapes that her son could eat right off of the vines. The "Lolo de l'Anhel" is typically a blend of 81% of Carignan, 10% of Syrah, 7% of Grenache Noir, and 2% Mourvèdre. 2016 Les Vignerons de Tautavel Vingrau "Silex" Côtes du Roussillon-Villages Tautavel

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A brilliant wine that readers should snatch up is the 2016 Cotes Du Roussillon Villages Tautavel Silex, a Grenache-dominated blend that includes 30% Syrah and 10% Carignan. It was completely destemmed and brought up all in tank. Rocking notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, licorice, garrigue, new leather, and loads of peppery goodness all emerge from this medium to full-bodied effort. Rich, full-bodied, nicely concentrated, and with ripe tannins, this sensational Tautavel is already approachable today yet will keep for 8-10 yea...

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Languedoc BilBo is a tank-aged blend of 40% Cinsault with 30% each Grenache and Syrah. As a result of the unique assemblage, it's floral, spicy and red-fruited, with raspberries and cherries leading the way. It's medium to full-bodied and silky, with delicate, tea-like notes reflected in the wine's flavors and texture, particularly on the finish. Intriguing stuff, well worth a try when it arrives later this year. (JC)" (05/2019) K&L Notes: Marie and Frederic Chauffray began their career in wine when...

Full-bodied, incredibly pure, elegant, and silky, it boasts awesome notes of crème de cassis, black olives, leafy herbs, and subtle gamey, salty nuances. The oak influence isn't hugely obvious, as the concentrated fruit shines brightly here, offering up delicate floral notes and bold blueberries on the nose. This is the Bordeaux-meets-Rhône blend you never knew you wanted.
