Marc Ripoll was an early adopter of the Vi de Valla classification of Priorat villages. This is his “younger” vine bottling, meaning not the 60-80 year old vines, but with plenty of maturity to clearly express the ripe and concentrated terroir of Gratallops. D’Iatra is a Garnatxa-based blend with Carinyena, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, all biodynamically grown, that is aged in 225 liter French oak barrels (20% new) for 12 months. It is rare to find wines from this region with bottle age at such a reasonable price. Do not let that be a concern. This ...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Not far off the magical 2013, the 2016 Clos Erasmus shows the purity and freshness of the vintage yet backs it up with rock star depth of fruit and richness. A huge nose of blueberries, crème de cassis, blood orange, and violets give way to a full-bodied Priorat that has flawless balance and purity, a stacked mid-palate, ripe tannins, and a finish that goes on for over a minute. This is pure, elegant, yet powerful Priorat at its finest. The 2016 is a blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah that spent 18 months in 40% new oak. Give bot...

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Laurel is sensational stuff and, in truth, matches several older vintages of the grand vin in quality. A blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 16 months in a mix of oak, concrete, and amphora, this deep purple-colored beauty offers up a fresh, vibrant bouquet of blueberries, crisp plums, violets, and spring flowers. Possessing full-bodied richness, beautiful depth of fruit and richness, and a fresh, elegant style, it’s a brilliant wine that’s going to evolve gracefully for 10-15 years." (...

93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of blue fruit and granite aromas with hints of violets on the nose. Full body, firm and linear with very fine tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Vertical and focused." (07/2017) 93 points Wine & Spirits: "Dominik Huber selects Garnacha and Cariñena from vineyards between 50 and 70 years old for this village wine. He begins the vinification with whole clusters, letting ambient yeasts do the work, then moves the juice into cement tanks and foudres to finish fermenting. It’s a pure and deliciously fresh expression o...

2017 Noster "Inicial" Priorat
Back In Stock!
Here is a Priorat that is not at all shy or trying to hide its Mediterranean origins, a richer, fuller bodied style especially considering its modest price. That said, the wine has become increasingly fresher, a development that is particularly apparent in this juicy, well delineated 2016. It is a well-balanced, tasty blend of Garnacha, Carignane, and just a tiny amount of Cabernet Sauvignon.

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The eponymous red blend 2015 Ferrer-Bobet looks for elegance and freshness as a way to express the character of the terroir. It's a blend of 55% Cariñena, 25% Garnacha, 15% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon matured in French barriques for 12 months. The nose has tons of aromatic herbs, thyme and rosemary and even mint, coming through as aromatic and balsamic. It has a little more body than the 2016, but it's equally balanced, in a more powerful vintage. I like it as much as the 2016, even a tad more. 23,727 bottles...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A 60/40 blend of Garnacha and Cariñena from the vineyard that names the wine, the 2016 Planetes de Nin saw a similar vinification and aging as the 2017 I tasted next to it, so the differences found were only due to the vintage and the moment of harvest. This is a fresher vintage, with tantalizing aromas that are subtle and elegant, with notes of violets and red cherries, nuanced and ever-changing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and nicely textured, with very fine tannins and fine chalky minerality. 9,10...

91 points James Suckling: "A dense and tangy white with dried pineapple, apple and lemon-rind character. Full body. Thick yet fresh. Drink now. " (07/2019) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The fruit-driven and young 2018 Font de la Figuera Blanco has aromas of white fruit and a touch of fennel and Mediterranean herbs. It's fresh and has nice balance, balsamic flavors and a dry, faintly bitter finish. It ends quite tasty and with focused, pure flavors. (LG)" (08/2019)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Vinyes Velles is a blend of two-thirds Carinena and one-third Garnacha. It is bestowed with a glorious, floral bouquet with very pure scents of cassis, blueberry and violets, all with pixelated delineation, almost Margaux-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. It is taut on the entry, quite linear and then fans out nicely with sappy dark berry, cassis and allspice. This entrancing Priorat is very well-balanced, long and persistent towards the finish, with a structure that sugg...

Luis Gutierrez writes: "Mas Martinet needs no introduction. They are one of the pioneers of the Priorat renaissance from 1989. They are located in the outskirts of Gratallops."

92 points Vinous: "Deep, lurid ruby. Primary red fruit aromas and a sexy floral quality on the highly perfumed, smoke- and spice-accented nose. Smooth and concentrated on the palate, offering cherry liqueur, raspberry, lavender pastille and spicecake flavors that pick up succulent herb and mineral nuances as the wine opens up. Fleshy yet energetic in style, delivering impressive finishing punch and harmonious, slow-building tannins that don't detract from the wine's inviting fruit. (JR)" (04/2019) Wine Spectator: "Forest floor, mountain herb and licori...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of only two Vins de Finca Qualificada from Priorat, the 2013 Clos Mogador is a complex blend of Garnacha and Cariñena with a touch of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. It felt serious and a little backward, terribly balanced with shy notes of peat and graphite emerging with some time in the glass, subtle and complex, slowly revealing nuances of dark cherries, violets, black olives and later some red fruit. The palate is surprising: when I expected it to show its power, it just whispered and danced on my tongue wi...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017s feel relaxed, something unusual in Priorat. The 2017 Clos Martinet has seen a change, as they stopped using the sorting table and stopped using the pied de cuve, because the harvest was very easy. They harvested in August—the earliest ever until 2018—and they didn't have time to do anything; so, they put the grapes in the vats and let them ferment, and that's what they have been doing ever since. They feel that there is less manipulation of the grapes now, and that could have helped to make wines more r...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Com Tu is a Garnacha from La Figuera, from white and red soils (with some more clay). It matured in old 4,000- and 5,000-liter oak vats for one year, a shorter élevage, as it's a lighter year. The fruit is a little riper, and the wine is juicy and has the austere tannins of the limestone soils. It reminds me of a Garnacha from Châteauneuf. 12,000 bottles produced. (LG)" (08/2019)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I've always had a special interest in this Garnacha and Cariñena blend from Álvaro Palacios, and the current vintage is now the 2017 Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes. It's produced with grapes from 80 different vineyards in eight villages and therefore is a regional wine. 2017 was a warm and ripe year that produced powerful wines. This 2017 is 55% Garnacha with 44% Cariñena and a 1% pinch of white grapes that fermented in concrete and oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in barrique and oak vat for 11 months. T...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 DOIX Costers Vinyes Velles, the product of a very hot vintage, is remarkably fresh with no baked aromas. The old vines with their deep roots had no difficulty accessing water. It displays an earthy minerality, incense, spice notes, and wood smoke. Ripe, succulent, and approachable, this impeccably balanced effort should reach its peak in a few years and drink well for a decade thereafter. Mas Doix has a story quite common in Priorat in which professional people living in the big cities return to reclaim...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The single-vineyard 2017 Finca Dofí comes from ten hectares that were planted 20 years ago in the village of Gratallops. It's mostly Garnacha with 8% Cariñena and 1% white grapes that fermented after being destemmed and lightly crushed in oak vats with indigenous yeasts. It matured in large oak barrels (bocoyes and foudres) for 16 months. There is no trace of oak in the wines, and there are no edges; they all feel sleek and elegant. This Dofí expresses the Mediterranean vintage from this vineyard at 300 to 320 me...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The riper and warmer 2015 Clos Figueres fermented in new 500-liter French oak barrels and matured in French barriques for 14 to 16 months. There is a tad more ripeness compared with the 2014, but there are no signs of excess. It's powerful while keeping its poise and manages to come through as balanced within its full body and plenty of tannins. A powerful red Priorat true to the vintage. I think it's a matter of taste if you like 2014 or 2015 better, because quality is pretty homogeneous. 4,525 bottles were fill...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Mas Martinet "Clos Martinet" Priorat (95RP, 93VN, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The flagship, multi-grape blend 2012 Clos Martinet is mostly Garnacha with Syrah, Cariñena (the Cariñena yielded very little in 2011 and 2012) and a little Cabernet and Merlot. The Mas Martinet vineyard is at 200-225 meters altitude on a very sheltered, quite warm site where they have no problems with winds, hail or frost. The nose is a mix of wet slate, spices and earth combined with red and black fruit in the background. 2012 seems like a great vintage for Clos Martinet; there is great depth and very good complexity all in harmony. Earthy and serious, this is a Priorat with great balance that will develop in bottle. 8,700 bottles were produced. (LG)" (06/2015)
Starting Bid: $151.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Mas Martinet "Clos Martinet" Priorat (95RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Clos Martinet is 65% Garnacha, 18% Carinena, 12% Syrah and the rest a combination of Cabernet and Merlot that changes with the vintage. It feels closer to the Cami Pesseroles than the Escurcons, which Sara tells me is because of the altitude rather than the varietal mix, with aromas of black fruit, crushed violets and plenty of balsamic notes of Mediterranean herbs, shoe polish, soy sauce, malt, peat and wet slate. The palate is medium to full-bodied and shows silky tannins with tension and power. 2010 is one of the best vintages for Clos Martinet, which is, year in, year out, great value at the top of the Priorat hierarchy. Drink 2014-2022. (LG)" (02/2014)
Starting Bid: $116.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Clos Pissarra "El Riu" Priorat. Producer Note: "El Riu (meaning "The River" in Catalan) is a 1 hectare vineyard (2.5 acres) in the town of El Molar in Priorat. We purchased this property at the end of 2004. This is an unusual vineyard in Priorat, as it sits on a slight slope above the Siurana River and although it is full of slate as is typical in the region, there is also a lot of gravel here, which is quite uncommon. The vineyard is planted to Carignan (Samso) vines that are over 100 years old! Yields are less than half a ton per acre."
Starting Bid: $120.00
