Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "A red that beguiles with its subtle aromas of undergrowth and roasted herbs, backed up by blackcurrants, dark plums and toasted oak. Structured, in the sense that it’s both finely gained and quite muscular, rolling through dusty dark fruit and a pretty sweet-and-sour character. 70% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. " (04/2019) 90 points Vinous: "The 2017 Lucilla is the estate's Sangiovese-based blend, is bold and fruity, with lovely depth and impeccable balance. 2015 Castelli Martinozzi Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "A firm and silky red with plum and berry aromas and flavors. A hint of chocolate powder. Medium to full body. Super integrated tannins and a long, long finish. Such polish. Best ever from here." (09/2019) 91 points Vinous: "Hailing from Villa S. Restituta and raised entirely in Slavonian oak botti, the 2015 Castelli Martinozzi Brunello di Montalcino displays masses of spicy cherry, berry fruits, peppery florals, and dark minerality, with something of an exotic, almost-volatile edginess and animal rusticity. On the palate, sof...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Castello Banfi 2018 Rosso di Montalcino is a stripped-down and easy-drinking red that would pair with a chicken and cheese quesadilla topped with extra sour cream and guacamole. The wine has the fresh acidity to cut through the fat in those foods without overpowering the fragrant spices and cilantro. This Rosso ages in both botte and barrique for one year. (ML)" (01/2020) Vinous: "Lively bright red. Lovely aromas and flavors of red cherry and sweet spices, plus pretty violet lift. Juicy and focused in the mouth, with...

The Frescobaldis are one of Tuscany’s oldest wine families. They are based in Rufina, just east of Florence, and they have wineries in multiple zones across Italy. While their family history is definitely rooted in Florence, their estate in Montalcino, Castello di Nipozzano, defined Chianti Rufina in the US for decades. They are practiced royals, elegant and well spoken, even when it comes to sotto-voce, but when they talk about Montalcino there’s always a twinkle in their eyes. The estate is on the west-south-west side of Montalcino. The Castelgiocondo...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Baricci 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is highly distinguished by its mineral side (with marl, marine fossil, schist quartz and Galestro soils), and that is truly the magic of this wine. There is a pungent note of raw grape at first, but it lifts to reveal forest berry, camphor ash and subtle touches of sweet spice. These elements come together like a tightly fitted mosaic. The wine is balanced and fresh, with just enough structure to add firmness and considerable length to its polished mid-weight frame. In fact...

Beautiful tension, while remaining well-extracted and voluminous. On the palate this is full-bodied, with extremely ripe tannins thanks to the important vineyard work and a concentrated and compact finish that take this to another level. Muscular and high-impact. 96 points International Wine Review: "This is a gorgeous wine from Villa Poggio Salvi in this vintage. This opens to distinctive aromatics with notes of raspberries, currants, rose petals, wild myrtle with a beautiful citrus undertone, which immediately dispenses character and authority. On the palate this is full-bodied and extracted, with powerful tannins, which are velvety and beautifully blend harmoniously into the concentrated finish that expresses all the fruit quality. (10/2019) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Fattoria dei Barbi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is a extremely polished and precise expression that hits all the right buttons for those seeking a classic expression of Sangiovese. 94 points International Wine Review: "The 2015 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino begins with a gorgeous aromatic profile of cherries, orange zest, grapefruit juice and fresh ginger which all come together beautifully in this young Brunello. On the palate this is medium-to full-bodied, structured with soft, round tannins and a precise finish that is solid and compact. 2016 Fontodi "Flaccianello della Pieve" Toscana (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fontodi's 2016 Flaccianello della Pieve is a masterpiece. This review represents a composite of notes from two separate tasting sessions, one at the winery and a second bottle tasted repeatedly over the course of 24 hours at my own pace. In the case of the second sample, it ended up in a blind flight next to the 2016 Masseto, and as beautiful as that Merlot-based wine is, this wine paints an even more beautiful portrait of a perfect Tuscan landscape, thanks to that tangy Sangiovese typicity. This vintage shows a...

2015 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dust and ripe fruit such as dried redcurrants, strawberry jam and raspberry fool. Lots of mahogany and old piano too. 2015 Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino

94 points James Suckling: "A linear and tight 2015, like many others, with a medium body, firm and fresh tannins and acidity and a berry, walnut and spice palate." (07/2019) 90 points Vinous: "The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino presents a dark and brooding display of crushed strawberry and cherry, with savory herbs and moist earth tones, as a hint of animal muskiness adds intrigue. On the palate, soft, fleshy textures are contrasted by a mix of tart red fruits, spice, and saline minerals, as hints of fine tannin settle on the senses. The finish is long an...

Shows a bit of heat on the finish, yet remains fresh and long. (BS)" (06/2020) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Col d'Orcia 2015 Brunello di Montalcino (made with organic fruit) has a very distinctive aromatic profile with subtle hints of rusty iron and moist potting soil. However, this wine also shows an impressive evolution i...

Full-bodied and incredibly decadent with toasted oak and meat and charred halloumi. The alcohol coats the mouth and the tannins demonstrate burly, iron-fisted character. " (10/2019) 94 points International Wine Review: "The 2015 Bellaria Brunello di Montalcino 'Assunto' is powerful on the nose, it shows notes of black cherries, wild myrtle, and citrus peel. Extremely long and intense. A top wine for the vintage. This needs three or four years, maybe more, to come together." (12/2018) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This is opulent and powerful, offering black cherry, black currant, plum, leather, iron and tobacco flavors boosted by the racy acidity. Overall, this feels firm and complex, with a long finish. Not your typical style from the ...

Black cherry, plum, smoke, mocha, licorice and wild herbs infuse this super-refined, striking Ricolma. One of the more recent developments at San Giusto with La Ricolma has been a move toward pruning as late as possible, with the goal of encouraging late harvests. In 2014, that was a winning strategy. Soft textures contrast savory spice and woodland berries, yet the 2015 remains creamy, as red fruit coasts across the senses, guided by brisk acids and minerals. 2015 Lisini Brunello di Montalcino (Elsewhere $60) (Elsewhere $60)
Top Pick!
96 points Decanter: "With vineyards between Sant'Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell'Abate on the inner edge of the Sesta district, Lisini's vineyards are cleansed by constant breezes from the Tuscan Coast. Stony soils with an important underpinning of limestone as well as elevations over 300 metres help preserve freshness in their wines. The 2015 is beautifully fragrant, almost exotic in character. Plump red fruit and sweet summer herbs fill the mouth but rather than being heavy, this is poised and transparent. Ample powdery tannins are fine and lead t...

The rows of sharp tannins are very defined and agile, and the acidity is tensely strung up in overtures of vivacious red fruit. A beautiful, nimble Brunello 2015." (10/2019) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Altesino's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli shows those celebrated characteristics of this special vineyard cru that are always portrayed with pronounced mineral intensity, with highlig...

96 points Vinous: "The 2016 Pinot Nero Case Via is fabulous. In fact, the 2016 may very well be the finest edition of Fontodi's Pinot I have ever tasted. A wine of tremendous aromatic intensity, inner sweetness and delineation, the 2016 Pinot simply has it all. Of course, the highly favorable growing season adds quite a bit of pedigree as well. The Fontodi Pinot is not especially varietal, but it is off the charts beautiful and absolutely compelling. It was fermented in terra cotta and aged in French oak, 50% new. What a wine!
