92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Scacciadiavoli 2013 Montefalco Sagrantino (with 35,000 bottles made) opens to a dark garnet color with saturated ruby highlights. The bouquet comes forward with intensity, ushering forth purple and black fruit with lots of tangy spice spanning from clove and cinnamon to cardamom and saffron. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2006 Paolo Bea "Pipparello" Montefalco Rosso Riserva. Vinous: "The 2006 Montefalco Rosso Riserva Pipparello bursts from the glass with super-ripe dark cherries, tobacco, licorice, spices and flowers. This is a bold, racy Pipparrello made in an opulent, almost extravagant style for this house buffered by firm yet attractive tannins. The aromas and flavors built towards a rustic, meaty finish. Nevertheless, there is plenty to admire and certainly much to talk about in this eccentric Umbrian red. The Pipparello is 60% Sangiovese, 25% Montepulciano and 15% Sagrantino. (AG)" (05/2011)
