Wine Enthusiast: "Honeysuckle, honeydew melon and white-peach aromas follow through to the somewhat sweet palate along with a note of glazed orange zest. Fresh acidity lifts the rich candied flavors. (KO)" (12/2017) K&L Notes: The Bronca sisters grow their own fruit on steep hillside vineyards, then make base wine and perform the secondary (sparkling) fermentation on non-vintage batches three or four times a year to ensure freshness. Low yields and hillside-grown fruit ensure that the wine has good concentration and acidity. This one's a clean, crisp a...

San Venanzio Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Brut
Top Pick!
91 points Decanter: "Richly aromatic with apple and lemon curd notes. A soft, well-integrated mousse is complemented by notes of lemon sherbet. Blind tasted by Fabio Giavedoni, Andy Howard MW, Alessandra Piubello (at The Institute of Masters of Wine, 29 Nov 2018) " (11/2018) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Smooth and fresh, this has delicate scents of wild flower, lemon and a whiff of crushed herb. On the bright, creamy palate, crisp acidity and a polished, foaming mousse offset green apple, white peach and citrus zest. (KO) " (12/2017) K&L Notes: San V...

(07/2018) 90 points Wine & Spirits: "Notes of tobacco and dark chocolate accent this wine’s flavors of dried cherry and cherry pit. It’s a rich and spicy ripasso, built for hearty braised meats. 93 points Decanter: "Mouthfilling and rich, unveiling a lovely creamy blanket of dried cherry and plum fruit, propelled by an enlivening vein of acidity. Highly satisfying yet still youthful. (Panel Tasting)" (01/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "This opens with aromas of ripe black-skinned fruit, resin and roasted coffee bean. The warm, dense palate delivers espresso, dried black cherry, clove and vanilla alongside close-grained tannins. (KO)" (12/2018) K&L Notes: Corte Rugolin is the name of an old manor house of the late 1600`s. This property, owned by Coun...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This has always been one of my favorite sparkling wines from northeast Italy. The Sorelle Bronca NV Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Particella 68 Brut is a single-vineyard expression (from parcel 68). The wine boasts a beautiful and delicate bouquet with wild flowers, soft peach, white violets and honey. The quality of the bubbling is fine and laser sharp. You get excellent value here. (ML) 91+" (06/2018) K&L Notes: The Bronca sisters grow their own fruit in steep hillside vineyards, then make base wine and pe...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Delicate aromas of white flowers, stone fruit and pear lead the way. On the palate, a core of green apple and citrus is carried by vibrant, fresh acidity. Small, lively bubbles lend finesse. *Best Buy* (KO)" (12/2015) Wine Spectator: "A clean Prosecco, with apple and a hint of grapefruit and mineral. Medium froth, with a crisp finish. (JC, Web-2007)" Jancis Robinson: "Quince, herbs and a touch of aspirin. This really has a lot more fruit depth than most Proseccos at this price. Medium dry but finishes fresh. Well priced, ju...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso Il Bugiardo is a very exuberant, very full and fruit-forward wine. Showing ripe, sweet and dark fruit with sweet spice at the end, this would spread holiday cheer with a pumpkin ravioli. The wine has a silky-smooth texture, with a nice entry into the mouth, all framed by soft tannins. This Valpolicella sees only a light appassimento and a partial ripasso in small barrels. (ML) 92+" (09/2019)

98 points James Suckling: "This is full throttle style with loads of black chocolate and dark fruits on the nose and the palate. Minerally, gun powder undertone. It's very full and powerful with super pretty tannins and a long finish. Gorgeous wine all around. Romano is a genius. " (04/2011) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Is this a bruiser or what? Opaque in color, with monster aromatics that run from tar and espresso to maple, violets, cumin and finely scented candle wax. Deep and intense as they come, with charcoal and menthol notes on top of primary bl...

A blend of the traditional Valpolicella varieties sourced from three of the estate's vineyard sites, this is a gorgeous expression of Amarone for a stupendous price. From the winery: "Made from a selection of the best native grapes, which are processed following the 'appassimento' method for three months, in line with an age-old tradition in Valpolicella. It is garnet-red in colour, with a full, dry, velvety taste, and intense aromas of cherries macerated in alcohol, wild berries and spices. Uncork a few hours before drinking and serve at 18-20°C."

92 points Wine & Spirits: "Despite the warm, dry growing season of 2015, this shows fresh scents of lavender and wild thyme that lift the wine’s densely concentrated flavors of black plum and baked raspberry. Layers of dark chocolate, black olive and espresso add dimension, while a note of peppery spice lingers on the finish." (02/2020) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A creamy and harmonious red, medium- to full-bodied, featuring light, dusty tannins that frame the flavors of baked black cherry, date, grilled thyme and loamy earth. Fresh and elegant, with a...

Trabucchi has always been among our favorite producers of Amarone, for their flavor, character, and fun. Over the entrance to the winery is inscribed, "With inspiration from Giuseppe Quintarelli, help from Romano Dal Forno and the money of Sig. Trabucchi," who is obviously someone with a great sense of humor. Valpolicella is one of the most exciting winemaking zones in Italy now. Gone are the days of the ubiquitous plonk; cheap and wet. Today's Valpolicella is stunningly aromatic, concentrated, richly textured, and spicy. The Trabucchi Amarone has less ...

Giuseppe Quintarelli was a humble man known as "Bepi," but the wines he produced earned him the title of "Maestro of Amarone" and a legacy as one of the most legendary winemakers of Italy. The grapes for this wine go through the appassimento process in which they are dried on rush mats prior to fermentation and pressing.

Graziano Prà is one of the hidden geniuses in Italian wine. Although his holdings in Soave produce his most renowned wines, he also has 7 hectares in Valpolicella from which he makes precisely defined and yet utterly unique reds. The 2018 Valpolicella Morandina is a Corvina-dominant wine sourced from vineyards in Mezzane and Tregnano that sit around 450 meters elevation on chalky, glacial soils. The grapes are dried for about 20 days and then fermented in stainless steel before being transferred to French oak botti for three to six months. The wines of P...

90 points Wine & Spirits: "There's a hint of complexity in the interplay between this wine's gentle sweetness and crisp acidity, like biting into a freshly picked ripe pear. It's lean and focused, a match for warm goat cheese on crostini." (12/2009) Wine Enthusiast: "This offers aromas of wisteria, jasmine, white stone fruit and a whiff of almond. The luminous palate doles out green apple, white peach, nectarine zest and a hint of crystallized ginger accompanied by vibrant acidity and small, persistent bubbles. 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Monte Lodoletta is my favorite wine in the retrospective, along with the amazing 2011, 2009 and 1996 vintages. This wine was released at the beginning of this year, and because Dal Forno skipped over the 2014 vintage, this is the only Amarone we will see for a while (until the highly anticipated 2015 is released). The 2013 vintage is characterized by a slightly more streamlined mouthfeel (which isn't saying much given the baseline enormity of these wines) with carefully etched ...

2012 Corteforte "Terre di San Zeno" Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
New!
From the winery: "Amarone 'Terre di San Zeno' is a blend of Valpolicella traditional grapes, which are picked only after a careful selection of the ripest clusters on the vines and placed to undergo the appassimento process, inducing air to dry out the grapes. This process lasts up to 4 months. The crushing takes place only at the beginning of the year following the harvest, with a very long fermentation, 25 – 30 days, due both to the temperature of the season (February – March) and to the naturally high alcohol level of the must. After a long maturation...

The estate of Giuseppe Quintarelli, the Veneto’s most important producer, has received justifiable renown for its near-mythical Amarone, Recioto and the cult wine, Alzero. As resolute traditionalists, the Quintarelli estate follows the winemaking protocol established by Giuseppe, practices he learned from his father and grandfather. Therefore, Quintarelli wines are always small in allocation, high in demand, and stratospheric in quality--even the most connected wine-lovers find the Quintarelli wines difficult to obtain. As with the estate’s Amarone, Qui...

92 points Vinous: "Black cherries, plums, graphite, tapenade, melted road tar and game hits the palate as Romano Dal Forno's 2009 Valpolicella Superiore shows off its personality. The 2009 brings together the signature richness of a wine made from 100% dried fruit with distinctly wild, almost Syrah-like overtones. Inky and intense, with considerable tannic backbone, the 2009 is really more of a junior Amarone than a Valpolicella. Readers will want to give this super-expressive wine another few years in the cellar, but there is a lot to like, even today. ...

Bid on this bottle of 2006 Giuseppe Quintarelli "Alzero" Veneto (97VN). Vinous: "The 2006 Alzero is wonderfully alive and vibrant in the glass, with beams of energy that run through its deep frame. Exotic and alluring, the 2006 simply has it all. There is plenty of richness in the black cherry, licorice, smoke, tobacco, espresso and mocha flavors, but 2006 also has an element of restraint that balances some of its more overt leanings. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. When Alzero is on, there is simply nothing else like it. (AG)" (05/2017)

95 points Wine Spectator: "A velvety, full-bodied version, loaded with blackberry coulis, baked black cherry and tar-tinged smoke flavors that ripple across the palate. Offers lovely accents of dried mint, tobacco, iron and anise that echo on the firm finish. A powerhouse, with plenty in reserve. Best from 2022 through 2032. 250 cases imported. *Highly Recommended* (AN)" (10/2019) K&L Notes: PLEASE NOTE: This product is offered as a complete case in original packaging. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Corte Sant'Alda Amarone della Valpolicella. Since 1986 the dynamic Marinella Camerani has been revitalizing her family estate, located in the foothills of the Lessini Mountains, north east of Verona, with dedication and passion. She has tirelessly worked along with her family, rediscovering abandoned techniques, to produce wines that are authentic to and reflective of the territory of Mezzane. Recently Marinella Camerani replanted some of her vineyards in Albarello to further improve the quality of the wines. She has been a part of the National Organic Program (NOP) for over 10 years, and been practicing biodynamics since 2002, working with the Demeter society for certification. To that end, she purchased twin, rare breed Alpine cows to habitate the estate. In recognition of her work, Gambero Rosso has honored Marinella with the Grower of the Year award.
