2012 Copain "Baker Ranch" Anderson Valley Syrah

95 points Vinous: "A striking, floral set of aromas and flavors lifts from the glass in the 2012 Syrah Baker Ranch. The inclusion of 90% whole clusters adds attractive floral and savory overtones to the distinctly red-toned fruit, while veins of minerality give the wine its sense of energy. The long, pulsating finish is striking in its beauty. Today, the Baker Ranch is simply exquisite from start to finish. Frankly, it's hard to move on. (AG)" (01/2015)

2013 Williams Selyem "Weir Vineyard" Yorkville Highlands Pinot Noir

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Weir Vineyard from Yorkville Highlands has a dark ruby/plum color and sweet notes of Red Delicious apple skins and baking spices as well as blueberry and raspberry fruit. It is medium-bodied, fresh, lively and capable of lasting 10-15 years. (RP)" (03/2016) 90 points Vinous: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Weir Vineyard, from a site in the Yorkville Highlands, is vibrant, persistent and very nicely balanced. 2016 Rhys "Alesia" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Alesia Pinot Noir Anderson Valley is unabashedly delicious, bursting with fragrant aromas of dried flowers, raspberries, wild plums and sweet forest floor. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, supple and satiny, with a juicy core of succulent, mouthwatering fruit that's framed by melting tannins. This bottling is already expressive, and I'd expect it to drink well for a decade, perhaps more. Note that this vintage hails entirely from Kevin Harvey's Bearwallow Vineyard... beginning with the 2016 vint ...

2017 Rivers-Marie "Bearwallow Vineyard" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard comes from two separate blocks in the vineyard and slightly younger vines. Aged 10 months in 25% new French oak, it has terrific purity in its dark fruits, crushed flowers, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. It’s medium to full-bodied, balanced, has fine, integrated tannins, and is a long, complex, classic Pinot Noir to drink over the coming decade." 2015 Under the Wire (Bedrock Wine Co.) "Alder Springs Vineyard" Mendocino County Chardonnay Brut Sparkling Wine

Winemaker's Notes: "In terms of sheer wildness few vineyards in the world compare to Alder Springs. Closer to Humboldt County than any vineyard in Mendocino, Stuart Bewley, following his own divining rod decided to plant in a wilderness no one had ever thought could grow grapes. Despite the constant issues of wild pigs, bears pushing over rows, and discovering that irrigation has been utilized by another cash-crop, Alder Springs has become one of the greatest vineyards in California. 2014 Meyer Family Cellars Yorkville Highlands Syrah

From the producer: "The fruit cold-soaked for 24-hours and was inoculated with yeast the next morning. Pumping over the Syrah was adjusted in duration and frequency, depending on taste and yeast activity (one to three times per day). The ferments were pressed off between two and four brix and then returned to tank. Once dry, the wine was racked off lees and inoculated for malolactic fermentation. MLF was done in tank and barrel, and upon completion, racked into barrel for 20 months."

2017 Rivers-Marie "Bearwallow Vineyard" Anderson Valley Chardonnay

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "From the well-known site in Anderson Valley owned by Rhys, the 2017 Chardonnay Bearwallow Vineyard is a fresh, focused, beautifully balanced Chardonnay that has complex notes of lemon curd, white flowers, chamomile, and tons of salty, mineral-like nuances. Brought up in 25% new French oak, it’s a balanced, chiseled Chardonnay that will benefit from a year in bottle and keep for upwards of a decade if well stored." 2017 Desire Lines "Cole Ranch" Riesling Mendocino County Riesling

Desire lines are the paths carved by locals, also known as cow paths or kemonomichi—unofficial waypaths. Winemaker's Notes: "Like the 2016 Riesling from Cole Ranch, the 2017 was whole-cluster pressed and fermented in neutral wooden barrels. 2017 was a warmer vintage relative to 2016, and thus the wine is richer and more tropical in flavor than the 2016. We racked the 2017 from neutral barrel to stainless steel drums in March, à la the wonderful Meursaults of Domaine Roulot, to encourage the wine to tighten up before the bottling in July. Like the 2016, t ...

2008 Morning Dew Ranch Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is known as one of wine's most fickle grapes. It takes a deft hand and the right growing conditions to get it right. In the early days of California winemaking, few managed to produce Pinot Noirs of note, but then in 1981 Burt Williams started making Pinot Noir out of his Forestville garage. That winery became Williams-Selyem, and the rest is California winemaking history. Burt sold Williams-Selyem in 1997, and he used the proceeds to buy a 40-acre ranch in the Anderson Valley, planting cuttings from the Rochioli Vineyard and "smuggled" DRC cu ...

2014 Rhys "Bearwallow Vineyard'' Anderson Valley Chardonnay

93 points John Gilman: "This is also the first vintage of vineyard-designated chardonnay produced from the Bearwallow Vineyard. Kevin Harvey and his team purchased Bearwallow in 2008, which at the time was planted only to pinot noir, and they put their chardonnay into the ground the following year, so this is the produce of five year-old vines. However, high density planting and a close eye on yields has produced a 2014 chardonnay here that has plenty of intensity of flavor and little young vine character. This is more reserved and more serious in person ...

There is fine richness to the succulent, round and caressing medium weight flavors that possess both good volume and solid mid-palate density while delivering very good if not special depth on the dusty and powerful finish. This is a big, indeed even robust, effort that will also need a few years of cellaring to round off the moderately prominent structure." (06/2017) 91 points V ...

2017 Lioco Mendocino County Pinot Noir

This is the first vintage of this bottling from Lioco. Winemaker's Notes: "We have always sought to produce a quality, value-driven Pinot Noir to compete with those from Bourgogne, Irancy, and Oregon. It's a tough proposition in California given the cost of doing business here - a hard truth that, until this year, kept us on the sidelines crunching numbers, seeking new vineyard opportunities, and negotiating better crush fees, cheaper glass, corks, labels, etc. All of this work finally hit pay dirt in November when we bottled up our first Mendo Pinot Noi ...

2014 Rhys Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

91 points Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley) is a new wine from Rhys made from 100% estate fruit from Bearwallow. A preference for fully destemmed fruit gives the 2014 lovely up-front intensity and more early appeal than most of the Rhys Pinots, which is a big plus for consumers. With time in the glass, the wine gains in fleshiness and succulence. Think of the Anderson Valley Pinot like a village-level wine from a top Burgundy domaine. It is the hidden gem in the Rhys lineup. Spiced plums, cassis, cedar pencil, and exotic spice notes give way to a medium-bodied, concentrated, seamless wine that has class and charm.
