1989 Couly-Dutheil "Clos de l'Olive" Chinon

Direct from the estate! Made from 100-year-old Cabernet Franc vines, growing on unique limestone and clay soil, this wine is dense and extremely complex. A magnificent example of a fine Loire red from what is arguably Chinon's greatest producer. Great aging potential, too. Full bodied and concentrated, a great vintage for Clos de L'Olive with abundant fruit, sweet rich mouthfeel and ripe juicy tannins. Very impressive wine for drinking well into its third decade. These wines evolve into the pinnacle of elegance, with haunting aromas of rich plummy fruit, ...

1989 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (Lightly Bin Soiled label)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Approaching full maturity, Pichon-Lalande’s1989 has a deep ruby/plum color with some lightening at the edge. The nose offers sweet plums and creme de cassis intermixed with vanilla and graphite. The wine is lush, medium to full-bodied, and layered with texture, low acidity, sweet tannin, and the hallmark purity and elegance this estate routinely produces. Some tannins remain, but this wine has reached its plateau of maturity, where it should remain for another 10-15 years. Anticipated maturity: Now-2017." (01/200 ...

1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (soiled labels)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1989 has taken forever to shed its formidable tannins, but what a great vintage of Lynch Bages! I would rank it at the top of the pyramid although the 1990, 2000, and down the road, some of the more recent vintages such as 2005, 2009 and 2010 should come close to matching the 1989's extraordinary concentration and undeniable aging potential. Its dense purple color reveals a slight lightening at the edge and the stunning bouquet offers classic notes of creme de cassis, subtle smoke, oak and graphite. Powerful ...

1989 Doisy-Védrines, Sauternes

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Doisy-Védrines vertical at the château, the 1989 Château Doisy-Védrines sports a similar colour to the 1990 with big fat tears in the glass. The nose is more introverted than the 1990, perhaps a little tertiary with honey, marmalade, fig and barley sugar. The palate is medium-bodied, more viscous than the 1990, very rounded, smooth and seductive with almost lush honeyed fruit, marmalade and quince. There is a lot of botrytis underpinning the rich, sensuous finish. It represents a serious Barsac for ...

1989 Darroze Chateau De Lahitte Bas-Armagnac (750ml)

From Darroze: 47% Ugni Blanc, 33% Colombard. Nice golden color. Brilliant. Fruits flame into this very fresh nose: dried apricot, candied orange peel, melon jam, white peach. Fine spices accompany the fruits. On the palate, the tannins are fine and delicate. We find this freshness and this fruit so delicate. Long in the mouth.
