2003 Glentauchers 15 Year Old "Chieftain's" Single Sherry Butt Speyside Single Malt Whisky (750ml)

After many years out of the California market, the Chieftain's brand is back. Don't get too excited because along with their re-introduction, they've recently announced their final run of single cask offerings. While we wait patiently for the demise of this famous brand, we found this gorgeous little butt of 'Tauchers sitting in a warehouse in New Jersey. Delicious sherried malt from one of Scotland's least known distillers for less than $100? Wait, less than $75? Yes please! Glentauchers Distillery was built in 1898, just a few years before the entire S ...

2003 Paul Hobbs Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The beautiful 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Paul Hobbs’ multiple sources. It exhibits a vibrant, young, blue/black color as well as a stunning nose of Asian plum sauce, black currants, blueberries and a touch of forest floor. Rich, opulent and full-bodied, it is meant for early drinking, but at age ten, it is showing no signs of premature aging. The pleasure police may accuse this wine of being a fruit bomb, but, boy, is it gorgeous, rich and satisfying on both a hedonistic and intellect ...

2003 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Chardonnay

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "For decades Hanzell has been making one of California’s most (and only) ageworthy Chards. The ’03 is one for the cellar, but it comes at the price of being hard in youth. Starts out flinty and tannic, although as it airs, new oak and pineapple emerge. This seems like a very good Hanzell. Best 2009–2015. " (11/2006) Wine Spectator: "Rich and intense, full-bodied and complex, with cedary oak, hazelnut and lead pencil flavors from oak, overshadowing a core of ripe apple, pear and melon, with a lingering spicy aftertaste. (JL)" ...

2003 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese #7

90 points Wine Spectator: "This lovely '03 spatlese combines the plush opulence of the year with attractive vanilla cream and floral notes, which remain concentrated and well-defined through the long finish." (04/2005) Vinous: "Very ripe and exotic on the nose, mingling quince and mango. Sleek, pure, creamy and refined in its display of tropical and orchard fruits, vanilla and malt. Lingering flavors of flowers, sweet herbs, spices and throat-coating fruit and wet stone. *Two Stars* (DS)" (01/2005) K&L Notes: According to importer Rudi Wiest: "Braune ...

2003 Coutet, Barsac

95 points Wine Spectator: "Honey, apple tart and lemon rind. Full-bodied, medium-sweet and very spicy with intense flavors of mace, apple and honey. Long finish. Thick and powerful. (JS)" (03/2006) 92 points Vinous: "Bright yellow-gold. Sexy aromas of orange liqueur and spices. Sweet, round and pure, with a lush texture verging on unctuous. And yet this is wonderfully aromatic and light on its feet. Very ripe and very complex in the mouth, with harmonious acids framing the flavors of orange oil, peach and spicy oak. Finishes very long, ripe and seamles ...

2003 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Absolutely superb, this 2003 is drinking beautifully. This blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot from the famous hillside Eisele Vineyard in northeast Napa Valley tips the scales at 14.5% natural alcohol. Gorgeously fresh black currant and black raspberry notes intermixed with spring flowers and forest floor jump from the glass from one of the most aromatically complex wines of the vintage. Medium to full-bodied with sweet fruit, velvety, melted, integrated tannin, a round, genero ...

2003 Paul Hobbs "Hyde Vineyard" Carneros Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the cool Carneros region, Hobbs fashioned a sensational 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Hyde Vineyard. Its inky/purple color is accompanied by sweet aromas of graphite interwoven with soil, black currant, and pepper scents. With full body, impressive delineation, and a long, concentrated, deep finish, this 2003 Cabernet will be at its finest between 2007-2020. (RP)" (12/2005) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Deliciously rich and complex, with a deep, potent core of earthy currant, anise, blackberry and plum. Gains momen ...

2003 Paul Hobbs "Beckstoffer To Kalon" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the first-growth vineyard of Beckstoffer To-Kalon, the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon finished at 14.9% natural alcohol. It boasts a nearly impenetrable looking blue/purple color, not quite the weight and majesty of the perfect 2002, but gorgeous purity and creme de cassis, floral and spice box notes. The wine starts off somewhat restrained by To-Kalon standards, but it opens and builds dramatically and impressively on the palate. Full-bodied with velvety, well-integrated tannins and wood, adequate acidity, and a f ...

2003 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma-Napa Counties Cabernet Sauvignon

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In contrast, the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is an equal part blend of Napa and Sonoma fruit. There is no doubting the Cabernet Sauvignon in this wine! Classic notes of cedarwood, underbrush, licorice, black currants and tobacco leaf are textbook definitions of this varietal. The color is even denser than the Reserve Claret's, and the bouquet offers additional notes of Chinese black tea. Elegant with great acid as well as stunning concentration, richness and a full-bodied mouthfeel, this is another world-clas ...

2003 Pahlmeyer "Jayson" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

The 2003 Jayson is a "declassification" of the wine originally intended for the Merlot and the Proprietary Red. Pahlmeyer does not grow or seek out fruit in order to produce wine for the Jayson label. The 2003 was harvested and vinified in the same manner as the Proprietary Red and the Merlot; the whole berry fruit was from hand picked lots and fermented in short, open-topped stainless steel tanks and cold soaked, using native yeasts. The wine then continued fermentation in 100% new French oak barrels and was bottled neither fined nor filtered. This Jays ...

2003 Feudi di San Gregorio "Serpico" Irpinia

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 is a fascinating Serpico. The wine boasts impressive concentration in its dark, rich fruit. This is an incredibly primary Serpico, with little in the way of tertiary development. Ideally, it is best left alone for another few years, but readers fortunate enough to own this are in for a thrilling ride once the wine opens up a bit. Today it remains tightly coiled but full of potential. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. (AG) 92+ " (08/2010) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A beautiful wine: sweet cherry and ber ...

2003 Willi Schaefer Graacher Himmelreich Auslese #12 Mosel

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Produced from fruit harvested after the region’s first late-October freeze, the 2003 Riesling Auslese Graacher Himmelreich A.P. #1204 displays a sweet, botrytis-laced nose and a personality that reveals a mini-Eiswein’s focus and delineation. Powerful, deep, and with cutting precision, it releases sweet and sour flavors of minerals as well as hints of passion fruit. Projected maturity: 2009-2030. Bravo to Willi Schaefer for having crafted such beauties! (PR)" (12/2004) 92 points Wine Spectator: "An almond aroma ...

2003 Kobalt Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby. Cassis, blackberry, licorice and violet on the nose, complicated by coffee and chocolate; slightly port-like. Then dense and compellingly sweet, with an enticing sugar/acid balance and firm tannic backbone. A very fruity wine with considerable early appeal; has a family resemblance to the Mark Herold's own Merus bottling. This is just under 15% alcohol. (ST)" (05/2006) 92 points Wine Spectator: "In excellent shape, this combines ripe, intense, extracted dark berry, mineral, licorice, k ...

2003 Gemstone Yountville Bordeaux Blend

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The inky/purple-hued 2003 Proprietary Red Wine, a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and the rest tiny portions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, reveals copious notes of chocolate along with hints of melted tar, charcoal, black cherries, and currants. Full-bodied, dense, and well-balanced, it should drink well for 10-15 years. Interestingly, Paul Frank continues to sell much of his production to such high quality wineries as Pahlmeyer. He will undoubtedly do more and more estate bottling as his vineya ...

2003 Calera "Selleck" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir

94 points Wine & Spirits: "If you prize subtlety in pinot noir, you'll want this in your cellar. Selleck is one of the first vineyards Josh Jensen planted on Mt. Harlan in 1975; this plot sits at about 1,200 feet on a steep, very stony, south-facing slope. In 2003, it gave a wine that's herbal at first, but the vegetal tones quickly evaporate, leaving a delicate raspberry flavor. The evolution slows, taking hours to show off layers of minerals, a marine element, a dark, smoky length. It's more about savory earth tones than direct fruitiness, and has the ...

2003 Balvenie 14 Year "Peat Week" Vintage Single Malt Whisky (750ml)

Whisky Advocate: "This expression dates from 2002, when Balvenie first produced a batch of heavily peated malt. Matured in American oak casks, the nose exhibits subtle peat balanced by honey, vanilla, and ripe red apples. On the palate, the soft smoke is well integrated with vanilla, more honey, ginger, and overripe pears. Ashy peat, citrus fruits, cinnamon, and tangy oak in the finish. An elegant peated whisky. (GS, Winter 2017)" K&L Notes: Another cracking smoky whisky from the newly beloved Peat Week series by The Balvenie. For one week every year, T ...

2003 Arietta Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $100)

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby-red. Sappy black cherry, roast coffee, tobacco, mocha and brown spices on the nose. Densely packed and suave, with fruit so sweet that one could easily enjoy this wine right now. Wonderfully lush, layered cabernet, finishing with very fine, building tannins.
