2015 Ritual Chardonnay Casablanca Valley

93 points James Suckling: "A bright and stoney Chardonnay with clarity and beauty. Full body, bright and tangy acidity with lime and green pineapple character. Vertical tension to this. Long and flavorful finish. Drink now." (05/2016) Vinous: "Light, bright yellow. Aromas of fresh pear and orange pith, accompanied by a quinine accent in the background. Chewy and a touch dry on the palate, offering biter pear skin and citrus pith flavors and a subtle honeysuckle note. Finishes taut and nervy, displaying repeating citrus fruit character. Escarlata means “scarlet” for the deep, brilliant red hue. Escarlata is a blend of estate grapes 35% Cabernet Franc, 30% Malbec, 20% Petit Verdot, 15% Syrah) grown in the prestigious Colchagua Valley and displays vibrant fresh fruit with just a light touch of oak to add depth and complexity. 2015 Viña Quebrada "Domus Aurea" Cabernet Sauvignon Maipo Valley

2016 Calcu Cabernet Franc Colchagua Valley

At Calcu, they are convinced that the next big thing in Chile is Cabernet Franc. God bless 'em if they think that Cabernet Franc will ever explode in popularity the way that Argentine Malbec recently has, or that Pinot Noir has in the past decade. Nonetheless, we love Cabernet Franc, and this one shows great varietal character with some unexpected richness as well. Calcu was one of the first Chilean wineries to obtain the Wines of Chile sustainability certification.

2017 Casa Silva Carmenère Colchagua Valley

Wine Enthusiast: "Earthy, spicy berry aromas include varietal specific minty green notes. A chewy palate has energy and power, while this tastes of mint, berry fruit, savory spice and green herb. If the classic herbal character of Carmenère doesn't bother you, this is a good one. (MS)" (12/2018)

2017 Apaltagua "Envero" Carménère Gran Reserva Colchagua Valley

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Gran Reserva Envero is mostly Carménère with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from Apalta. It matured in French and American oak barrels for ten to 12 months. It has an herbal, spicy and balsamic nose with a soapy touch. The palate is soft and polished, with moderate acidity. (LG)" (04/2017)

2015 Garage Wine Company "Truquilemu" Carignan Maule Valley

Derek Mossman is up to some truly interesting things on the Chilean wine scene. Whether it's dry farmed Maule Pais, old vine Cinsault, Maipo Cabernet, or this singular Carignan, the man is making very interesting wines and raising the qualitative bar, focusing on terroir and maximum fruit expression. By identifying some of Chile's most interesting vineyards and working very minimally in the cellar to allow the fruit to shine, Garage Wine Company is producing some great examples of authentic vino chileno.

2015 Vina Gonzalez Bastias "Pais en Tinaja" Maule Valley

Located in the western Maule Valley, in the midst of Chile's coastal range, so far removed from any city that the only way to arrive is via a slow train (top speed 20 mph!) and a canoe trip across the Maule River! Needless to say, viticulture on this special 4 hectare vineyard is organic, with biodynamic preparations made on site. The vines are primarily 200 year old (you read that correctly, 200 years old!) Mission vines, with a smattering of very old (but slightly less old) Moscatel Negra. Following harvest, this wine is literally hand pressed. Hands a ...

2017 De Martino "Estate" Cabernet Sauvignon Maipo Valley

The second largest owner of organic vineyards in Chile, with 740 acres in production, De Martino is stepping up to the plate in other ways as well: the winery is 100% carbon neutral and beginning in 2011 they have stopped purchasing new oak barrels. That year they purchased 140 tinajas, the traditional Chilean clay vessels that resemble amphorae, in varying shapes and sizes. They also invested in 5000L Austrian (Stockinger) foudres and continue to seek out Chilean foudres made from the indigenous oak known locally as "raulí." Though their Maipo Valley "c ...

2016 Koyle "Cerro Basalto Cuartel G2" Colchagua Valley

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Cerro Basalto Cuartel G2 is a new red blend from the plot they call G2 in their basalt hill, where 2.6 hectares are planted with high-density Carmenere and Cabernet Franc, a blend that I started to see this time. It had an élevage of 18 months in 225-liter French oak barrels and has 13.6% alcohol. 2016 is a cooler year, and they harvested the grapes quite early. The majority here is Carmenere, but there are no green aromas. Instead, it's spicy and peppery and has the elegance I find in some of my favorit ...

2017 Montsecano "Migrante" Malbec Pinot Noir Casablanca Valley

From the importer: "Julio Donoso and Andre Ostertag started Montsecano in 2005. They planted 4 hectares of Pinot Noir in las Dichas, Casablanca and built a small winery and cellar on the property. The vineyard is biodynamically farmed and is plowed by horse. The subterranean, geothermal winery is shaped like an egg, and they vinify exclusively with concrete egg and steel tank. Many believe that they produce two of the most highly regarded expressions of Pinot Noir in all of Chile. Julio and Andre incorporate a philosophical aspect that goes deeper than t ...

2016 Kingston Family Vineyards "Tobiano" Pinot Noir Casablanca Valley

93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of tar, dried strawberries and some fresh herbs follow through a medium body, firm and silky tannins and a juicy finish. Drink now." (03/2018) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here the slightly more expressive nose is compositionally similar to the Alazan but with more obvious floral components. The very round and pliant lighter-weight flavors are utterly delicious while offering good if not special persistence and depth on the dusty but not really drying finale. This should drink well almost immediately." (10/2017) Wine ...

Drink in 2020. " (03/2018) K&L Notes: Viña Maquis is a top producer in the Colchagua Valley, known for their expressive bottlings of Cabernet, Cabernet Franc and Carmenere based wines. This Cab shows lovely currant flavors, with a savory touch of sweet, concentrated soy sauce as well. Really impressive Cabernet for the money.

(05/2016) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe, earthy black-fruit aromas are spicy and a bit lactic from oak, hence, the palate is full and creamy, but with a good acidic cut. Blackberry, herbal spice and cool toasty oak flavors finish warm and plump. 2016 Garage Wine Company "Second Salvo" Pais Maule Valley

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blanc de noirs in the Single Ferment series, the 2017 País is produced with País grapes and has a very faint rose tint. It has notes of small flowers and a nice mouthfeel. In reality, it also has some 15% Cariñena grapes, the first of a new series they are going to call The Field Craft bottlings. Like the rest of their wines, the process is not important and is not marked in the wine, which feels aromatic, approachable and complex but not complicated, with notes of pollen and dried flowers. It's bottled without ...

2015 Viña Maquis Cabernet Franc Colchagua Valley

92 points James Suckling: "I love the fragrant nose of violets with delicate herbal notes and just a hint of licorice. On the palate there is a tannin structure that makes this red simultaneously warm and fresh. The balancing act continues through the long finish. Drink or hold." (03/2018) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The variety that best represents the essence of Maquis is Cabernet Franc, the entry level of which is the 2015 Cabernet Franc. The varietal bottlings are usually complemented by other grapes, in this case 5% Carménère and 3% ...

Incredible character here with such purity and polish. It goes on for minutes. Formed, sculptured yet soulful. A monumental wine for Chile. Unbelievable. More powerful than the 2014 which was 100 points. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Better in 2022." 2016 Viña Almaviva "Almaviva" Bordeaux Blend Puente Alto

97 points James Suckling: "A very fine and elegant Almaviva with fresh fruit and herb character. Medium-to-full body, tight and focused with very fine, linear tannins and a chocolate and light cedar undertone to the whole thing. Savory, too. Smoked meat and succulent. It's tight but opens with air. Classicism here. 66% cabernet sauvignon, 24% carmenere, 8% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. Drink in 2021." 2016 Seña Red Blend Valle de Aconcagua

98 points James Suckling: "Aromas are lifted and bright in this wine with loads of blackberries and blueberries. Full body, velvety tannins. Gorgeous texture. Very pure fruit. A bright and more fundamental Seña than last vintages. Restrained at the end. 55% cabernet, 20% malbec, 12% petit verdot, 8% carmenere, 5% cabernet franc. September 2018 release. Needs three or four years of bottle age." 2015 Seña Red Blend Valle de Aconcagua

It goes on for minutes on the palate with such energy and focus. Touch of chewiness on the finish. A complex and complete wine that delivers a generosity with firmness. Drink in 2021 but already a classic to drink."
