2017 Foxglove Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon

Vinous: "Foxglove's 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous. Even better, it is also one of the very best values in California Cabernet readers will come across. A rush of super-ripe dark cherry, tobacco, licorice and plum give the 2017 its racy personality. Voluptuous in the glass, with silky tannins and soft contours, the 2017 will be impossible to resist upon release. (AG)" (07/2018)

2017 The Fableist Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon

Two winemakers who were already producing some serious Central Coast wines, Curt Schalchlin founder of Sans Liege and Andrew Jones who started Field Recordings, teamed up to launch The Fabelist Wine Co. 2016 Giornata "French Camp Vineyard" Paso Robles Highlands Aglianico

92 points Vinous: "Saturated, bright-rimmed ruby. Lush, expansive dark berry, licorice and floral scents are enlivened by smoky mineral and spice flourishes. Broad and sweet on the palate, offering intense blackberry, cherry liqueur and floral pastille flavors that tighten up steadily on the back half. Rich, for sure, but there's unlikely energy here as well. The supple, dark-fruit-driven finish shows excellent clarity. Pliant, slow-building tannins add framework and grip. 2017 Field Recordings "PETS" Paso Robles Petite Sirah

Andrew Jones learned to make wine from the ground up. He started as a vine nursery fieldman, planting and planning vineyards for wineries all over California. This gave him firsthand knowledge of nearly every vineyard on the Central Coast and a knack for finding "diamonds in the rough." Meanwhile, he was building friendships with some great California growers, who'd often offer him small lots of their best grapes on the side. From these beginnings he has built a catalog of delicious, affordable wines that hum with personality.

2016 Claiborne & Churchill "Estate" Edna Valley Pinot Noir

Winemaker's Notes: "Looking back on 2016, we’re quickly reminded of the year’s ideal growing conditions whenever we open a bottle of this Classic Pinot Noir. Warm afternoons and cool nights played a big part in providing us with balanced, ripe fruit grown on our Estate Twin Creeks Vineyards. At harvest, we crushed and destemmed the Pinot Noir before cold-soaking it in fermenting bins. This allowed us to extract more color before fermentation starts. As the wine fermented, we performed three punch-downs a day then racked the free run wine into barrel. Aft ...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "When looking for an affordable table wine with great packaging and unique flavors, opt for this blend of primarily Pinot Grigio and Falanghina, with touches of Vermentino and Verdelho. The texture is grippy with chalk on the palate, offering flavors of strawberry, pluot flesh and a spritz of citrus. Taut citrus and orchard fruit flavors unfurl slowly and show hints of bitter quinine and anise that build slowly with air. Shows very good depth as well as energy on the finish, which echoes the mineral and citrus fruit notes. 98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A total 'Wow Wine!', the 2014 Tempranillo is a huge, smoking good, rich and concentrated red that has loads of smoked earth, cedar, cured meat, blackcurrants, violets and licorice aromas and flavors. This smoky, rich, mineral-laced Tempranillo is a candidate for the top expression of the variety in the United States (I should put this up against Cayuse’s Impulsivo cuvée) and it has Full-bodied richness, beautifully concentrated, notable freshness and a great finish. 2016 Foxglove Paso Robles Zinfandel

At the core of Foxglove is Bob Varner, also the winemaker at Varner Wines. Beginning with their first vintage in 1991, Bob sources the wine from a variety of places, all of which are in Edna Valley. The resulting wine has Central Coast appellation pricing, and is full of complex fruit flavors that the Edna Valley appellation is known for. Edna Valley, a relatively small appellation, grows mostly Chardonnay on about 1000 acres. The entire acreage is tightly controlled by a few owners employing the most up-to-date vineyard practices that give the valley ...

2017 L'Aventure "Estate Cuvée" Paso Robles Red Blend

Josh Raynolds writes: "Stephan Asseo has a long and admirable track record for producing wines that meld the elegance of Bordeaux, where he was born and raised, and the ripeness and power of Paso Robles, where he has lived and made wine since 1997. That melding is both figurative and literal, as many of his wines are blends of traditional Bordeaux varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot) and the Rhône varieties (Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre) on which this region’s fame has been built. Asseo is a curious and often experimental winemaker and was an ...

2018 Rabble Wine Co. Paso Robles Syrah Rosé

Winemaker's Notes: "Made entirely of Syrah from Mossfire Ranch. This vineyard was planted in 1996 on steep hillsides and a rolling valley at the confuence of sun, snow and sea. The vineyard weathers 40 degree diurnal shifts. The extremity of the climate creates fruit of uncommon concentration and uniform ripeness. This newly released Rosé screams watermelon, young strawberry, orange peel and stony minerality. Flavors of melon rind, hibiscus and salinity dance across the palate while the juicy acidity rounds out this lively fun-going wine. The brightnes ...

2018 Field Recordings Blanc de Franc Paso Robles

From winemaker Andrew Jones comes this esoteric delight, a lightly sparkling (and lightly colored) rosé of Cabernet Franc made in the pétillant naturel style. Timing is everything with this wine as it must be bottled and capped with just the right amount of remaining natural sugars to continue fermentation (thus, creating captured carbonation). It's not an easy trick to pull off, but when it goes right, it really goes right.
