1977 Taylor Vintage Port

98 points Vinous: "The 1977 Taylor's Vintage Port is initially tight and conservative on the nose: strawberry, baked cherry, tobacco and wild hedgerow notes emerging but remaining tight-lipped. This needs a good decant! The palate is endowed with depth and concentration, very well balanced with an attractive crispness. Perhaps you could argue that it is a "linear" and more "correct" Taylor's compared to the 1970 and lacks some charm. But there is immense complexity here so it is more a case of a Port demanding a very long maturation in bottle. Tasted in ...

1977 Dow's Vintage Port

97 points James Suckling: "This is really glorious and refined, offering a polished and creamy texture. Complex aromas and flavors with cream, dried fruit and nuts. Medium body. Very beautiful. A refined and glorious 1977 now. Real deal. " (01/2017) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977. The 1977, still a baby, is fabulously scented, very rich and concentrated, and has a potential longevity of at least another 30-50 years. (RP)" (01/1989) ...

1977 Graham's Vintage Port

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. (RP)" (01/1989) 91 points Wine Spectator: "This was never a great Graham, but it's outstanding quality nonetheless. Medium ruby-red. Aromas of milk chocolate, plum, m ...

Wine Spectator: "Ruby garnet. Quite old-looking. Toffee, berry and milk chocolate aromas. Round and delicious, very sweet and beautiful. Very long and fruity. Balanced and refined. All in the right place and very ready. More like a tawny now. (JS, Web 2008)"

1977 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

96 points Wine Spectator: "Great dark color. Intense aromas of blackberry, stem and earth. Very powerful and youthful nose. Full-bodied and medium-sweet, with lots of milk chocolate, spice and berry character. Layered and balanced. So enjoyable. But just a baby. I remember this 10 years ago. It is really fantastic. Underrated by many, including me. '77/'85/'97 blind Port retrospective. Drink now through 2020 (Web Only- 2008)" Jancis Robinson: "Notably dark crimson. One of the darkest wines in the array. This is a famous vintage for Smith Woodhouse -- a ...

1977 Offley Boa Vista Vintage Port

Wine Spectator: "Medium ruby, with ripe plum and raisin aromas, full-bodied and ripe, with medium tannins and a long finish. (Web 1989)" K&L Notes: Michael Broadbent: "Five notes made in the mid-1990's in varying contexts have been consistent, 'showing well', good fruit, 'nice weight and balance'. Last noted at Christie's boardroom luncheon, November 1996. 3 stars." (Michael Broadbent's Vintage Wine, pg 480)

1977 Warre's Vintage Port

94 points James Suckling: "The Warre was beautiful now. It showed lots of dried fruits and Christmas cake character on the nose and palate. Medium sweet. It was full-bodied with loads of flavor and an intensely flavorful finish. It was perfect to drink. " (06/2016) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Deep garnet. Very pretty plum and berry aromas, with hints of honey and toffee. Turns to custard. Full-bodied, sweet and fresh. Firm tannins, with elegance and balance. Will age for a long time, but ready. Generous, but subtle. (JS, Web-2008)" 92 points Robert Par ...
