94 points Wine Spectator: "Beautiful deep-garnet color, with classic Médoc flavors of plum, spice, earth and mineral. Tannic, well-balanced, mouth-filling, chewy in its intensity but needs time. Drinkable now, but probably better to wait until about 1998.--Lafite Rothschild vertical." (11/1991) Jancis Robinson: "Very aromatic and lively and fresh. Quite light. 'Rather an old-fashioned wine, slightly 19th century. The only advantage it had was its acidity. It offers no resistance in any way to being drunk.' Baron Eric de Rothschild. 17/20 points. (JR)" ...

Château Lascombes is one of Bordeaux's esteemed Second Growths, located in Margaux. What makes the estate's vineyards unique are the three distinct soil types--gravelly mound planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, clay-gravel planted with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and clay-limestone planted with Merlot. Another distinguishing feature is the predominance of Merlot planted in the vineyard. The wines are traditionally firm and unctuous, incredibly complex and ageworthy. Clive Coates on the 1978: "Medium to medium-full colour. A little browne...

Bid on this bottle of 1978 Henri Jayer Vosne-Romanée. Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Remarkably, the color is still quite dark with only marginal bricking and the nose took a solid 20 minutes before it really began to open and evolve, leading to rich, complex and quite long flavors of excellent depth and length for a villages level wine. " (09/1995)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1978 Inglenook "Limited Cask" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon . One of the iconic estates in Napa Valley, Inglenook is a centerpiece of nearly every chapter in the valley's modern history. These bottlings from the 1970s are some of the clearest expressions of the classic style of Napa Cab that put the region on the map. Inglenook was famous at the time for bottling extremely small, limited edition runs of individual lots from the estate. These wines are exceedingly rare on the market today.

Bid on this bottle of 1978 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 95JG, 93VN, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This was a fabulous showing for the 1978 Monte Bello, which is another of the high points of this great decade for Ridge. The wine offers up a rich and kaleidoscopically complex bouquet of black truffles, dark chocolate, black currants, pencil shavings and Egyptian musk. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and complete, with ripe, melting tannins, an ample core of fruit and a long, tangy finish. It gets better and better with air. The 1978 is a touch more savory and a little less lavishly textural than the 1974, but the two are very close in ultimate quality. Connoisseurs will be interested to learn that a portion of the 1978 was rebottled due to an incomplete malolactic fermentation: antique olive bottles indicate the rebottled 1978, whereas the original bottles are in Champagne green. This tasting note refers to a pristine exa

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1978 Chateau Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape (95JG, 90WS). John Gilman: ""Château Mont-Redon- A Very Rare, Classic Châteauneuf du Pape That Harkens Back to the Good Old Days" I have had the good fortune to drink the beautiful 1978 Mont-Redon on four occasions in the last few years and each time I am completely smitten with the style of this superb wine. At age thirty-two the wine is at its absolute summit of peak drinkability, as it soars from the glass in a deep and complex mélange of dark berries, coffee bean, singed heather, gamebirds, lavender, smoke and cigar ash. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and absolutely à point, with great complexity, melting tannins and simply stunning length and grip. This is a classically black fruity, mature vintage of Mont-Redon that will have no difficulties continuing to cruise along at its peak for at least another decade or two and is clearly one of the top 1978 Châteauneufs. A great and utterly classic

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1978 Caymus "Grace Family Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon. This extremely rare bottle predates all other Grace Family wines. Planted using cuttings from the nearby famed Bosché vineyard, Grace Family Vineyards began as nothing more than a family hobby. In 1978, they brought the fruits of their first harvest over to Caymus Winery in the back of a station wagon. According to Grace Family's website, Charlie Wagner, who ran Caymus, tasted those grapes and exclaimed, "You know, Dick, this is damned fine fruit!" And thus, the Caymus "Grace Family Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon was born--Napa's first vineyard-designated wine.
