Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium ruby with no signs of age, this wine offered up a light intensity, spicy, elegant, innocuous bouquet, exhibited ripe, medium-bodied, attractive flavors, and a compact, angular finish. (RP)" (03/1992)
Price: $109.99

91 points Wine Spectator: "Polished, big, dark-colored, with rich and opulent aromas and flavors and loads of tobacco, cedary and berry character. (JS)" (10/1994) K&L Notes: 90 points Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "It has a light but well defined bouquet with notes of redcurrant, boysenberry, mint leaf and cedar with good intensity and vigour. It reminds more of Las-Cases ’81 in some ways. The palate is medium-bodied with a dry, quite savoury entry, powdery and slightly edgy tannins. The fruit appears to be fading although the secondary flavours and comp...

Wine Spectator: "A fine mature claret with an impressive freshness. Excellent ruby color with subtle aromas of cherry and green tobacco. This wine shows vivid fruit flavors with mineral undertones and a fine silky texture of tannins. Delicious now but should improve." (10/1994)
Price: $139.99

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has just begun its slide down the slippery slope. It was an outstanding La Conseillante that drank beautifully young. Once the baby fat began to fade in the mid-nineties, the wine was less enticing, although still an excellent, and perhaps outstanding if drunk from larger format bottles (i.e., magnum). The wine possesses a deep ruby color with some lightening at the edge. The toasty, cherry and raspberry-scented nose is followed by smoky, roasted herb, sweet cherry and raspberry flavors judiciously infused with s...

We love these so-called off vintages from the classic producers because you get much more bang for your buck. '81 Pichon is a long time K&L favorite. Robert Parker says… 'The 1981 is a very successful wine, with a more compact aromatic and flavor profile than the 1982. In that sense it is more classic than the flamboyant 1982. Unlike many 1981s, Pichon Lalande achieved wonderful ripeness, and the result is a medium-bodied, richly fruity, fragrant wine without the greenness and astringent tannins that so many 1981s possess. The finish is long and sup...

1981 Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Sauternes
Back In Stock!
According to Robert Parker: "Quite exceptional, the 1981 Lafaurie-Peyraguey exhibits ripe apricot aromas, a rich, chewy, viscous texture, good acidity, and a long, sweet, fat finish. This wine displays considerable botrytis, and is clearly one of the top efforts in this vintage." (Bordeaux Book, 1998)
Price: $69.99

92 points John Gilman: "For drinking at the present time, it is hard not to love the more middleweight vintage of 1981 at Pichon-Lalande. The wine is at its absolute apogee of peak drinkability at the present time, wafting from the glass in a beautiful and quite classic aromatic blend of sweet cassis, cigar wrapper, gravelly soil tones, a touch of chipotle pepper, cigar ash and a whisper of merlot-derived sweet herb in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, fullish and utterly suave on the attack, with a fine core, lovely focus and grip, mel...

Bid on this bottle of 1981 Krug Collection Brut Champagne (Gift Box - 97VN) in original gift box.. Vinous: "The 1981 Collection (Magnum) has begun to slowly enter a plateau of maturity marked by slightly oxidative, tertiary notes that give the wine its burnished, resonant personality. Open-knit and creamy on the palate, the 1981 is an ideal wine for current drinking, as it is not likely to improve much from here. Stone fruit, vanilla, hazelnut, truffle, orange peel brioche and dried flowers are some of the many notes that grace the exquisite finish. This is a tremendous showing. (AG)" (12/2016)
