1983 Taylor Vintage Port

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1983 Vintage Port is up for a status check. It is in a pretty good place now. It's been as hard as nails over the years. Not anymore. With softened tannins and a medley of old Port flavors on the finish, this is both sensual and delicious, with velvety texture and an irresistible finish. It doesn't have that hard edge any more, but it does wake up and become more intense with some air. At least from this bottle, it comes together rather promptly and drinks well. It's lacking just a bit of firmness, but its co ...

1983 Suduiraut, Sauternes (375ml)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This looks to be a good Suduiraut. A medium golden color, with a very honeyed, rich, floral bouquet... Sweet, with fine honeyed flavors, this is an elegant, graceful Suduiraut with plenty of character... (RP)" (01/1998) Wine Spectator: "Delicious and balanced, showing exciting earthy, white truffle flavors that add complexity to the honey and spice notes. Medium intensity. " (04/1995)

1983 Gould Campbell Vintage Port

90 points Wine Spectator: "This is right up with the major-league 1983s. It is extremely full and concentrated, with a massive fruit structure. Inky color, very concentrated black currant nose, full-bodied, with tons of tannin, velvety fruit flavors and a closed finish. Truly excellent. (JS, Web Only-1989)" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My experience with this house is limited. One rarely sees this brand stateside. The 1983 is rich, full-bodied, well-colored, and complex." (01/1989)

1983 Graham's Vintage Port

93 points Wine Spectator: "A superb achievement from a very underrated year. Deep dark ruby-purple, with rich floral and violet aromas, full-bodied, with masses of strawberry flavors, full tannins and a long finish. (JS, Web Only-1989)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather tha ...

1983 Dow's Vintage Port

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977.The 1983 is rich, concentrated, very fruity, and magnificently perfumed, suggesting that it is going to mature early, long before the 1977. (RP)" (01/1989) Jancis Robinson: "Mid crimson and slightly grey. Very sweet and round and slightly raisiny. Slight rustic edge but very ripe and round and lively with a certain freshness and punch. Long and powerful. Looking good for the future, A confident wine. ...

1983 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero
Bid on this bottle of 1983 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is a blend of 65% Tinto Fino, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot/Malbec that was picked from October 12 in clement conditions. It has a refined, more introverted bouquet with a touch of austerity. There are broody dark red berries, tar, mint and sandalwood, almost Pauillac-like in personality. The palate is medium-bodied with taut, slightly obdurate tannins. It is full in the mouth, broad-shouldered and more bucolic than the 1982. It lacks some finesse towards the sinewy finish, but there is certainly good weight and persistency with touches of bacon fat and walnut on the aftertaste. This is a brawny but delicious Unico. Drink now-2025+ (NM)" (08/2012)

1983 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 1983 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion (96JS, 96WS, 94RP). James Suckling: "The 1983 Cheval is a red that I have always appreciated. In fact, I may have scored it higher in the 1980s when I first tasted the two vintages, but that was a long time ago! The bottle at Island Tang showed beautiful aromas of licorice, spice, flowers and dried fruits such as prunes. It was still full-bodied with soft and fine tannins and ripe fruit." (06/2016)

1983 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1983 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (96JS, 94VN, 93RP, 92DC). James Suckling: "This is Lafite. Prune and spices, with a cedar and wet tobacco character on the nose. Even tea. Full and rich with a dark China tea and cedar character. Just a hint of chocolate. Opens in the glass like a genie. Amazing." (03/2012)

1983 Domaine Ponsot Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1983 Domaine Ponsot Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru (91BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " A spicy mix of secondary fruit aromas and sous-bois also enjoys added breadth from the presence of earth, game and a distinct sauvage character. There is good ripeness to the still firm and mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess good mid-palate concentration before culminating in a vibrant finish that displays just a hint of the '83 style dryness that isn't enough to really bring it up short. While completely ready to drink it should continue to hold well." (07/2013)

1983 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1983 Margaux, Margaux (98DC, 98JS, 98WS, 96RP, 95ST). James Suckling: "This has always been said to be the best wine of the 1983 vintage in Bordeaux because the appellation of Margaux performed slightly better in 1983 than in the legendary 1982 vintage. It certainly is more structured than the 1982 Margaux. It is incredibly fresh and clean still. It's full-bodied and tannic, structured and powerful yet shows such balance and length. Decant three hours before serving." (06/2016)
