Jasper Morris, MW writes: "The Noëllat tribe are abundant in this part of the Côte de Nuits. Two brothers, Charles and Ernest, flourished in the early part of the 20th century. Charles had a son, André, who died in 1941, and whose daughter Odile married Alain Hudelot, to form Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat in Vougeot. Domaine Charles Noëllat no longer exists since its purchase by Lalou Bize-Leroy in 1988."

94 points Decanter: "Again so young, almost not ready to drink but if you are patient things open up and start to sing. The tannic structure on this wine is just so impressive, still doing a good job of cradling blackberry and cassis fruits. It's a little less welcoming than the 1982. Harvest September 28 to October 18 (they began here one day before they finished up the 1982, and the yields were even bigger). More Cabernet in the blend than in 1982 because this was such a late ripening year that suited this variety. Petit Verdot 5% finishes blend. (JA)" ...

The palate is well-defined with rounded, plummy damson fruit. Not complex ...

I have always had a soft spot for the Haut-Brion 1983 as one of the “friendliest” of the First Growths. Though not a top-tier Haut-Brion, the 1983 has developed a fine earthy, leathery bouquet that is similar to the ’86 but without the same vigour or complexity. The palate is very harmonious with a citrus-tinged entry, its lack of depth and length compensated by poise and tension. Sandalwood, cedar and a touch of truffle and smoke towards the finish. Lovely. 1983 Mayacamas Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1983 Mayacamas Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon . About 2,000 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon are made each year from the steep rocky slopes of vineyards at Mayacamas. Small amounts of cabernet franc and merlot (generally totaling 10% to 15% of the final wine) are blended into the Cabernet Sauvignon. Seven to fourteen days of fermentation on the grape skins are preceded by crushing and destemming. The grapes are then pressed and racked several times in the next few weeks. Two years of large American oak cask aging is followed by a year in 60 gallon French oak barrels. After bottling, these wines are given an additional two years of aging in the bottle before being released for sale at about five years of age. Full development requires many more years. This is a Cabernet to be consumed at twelve to twenty five years of age, although some vintages will be at or near their best for even longer.
