1985 Baraillon 33 Year Old K&L Exclusive Vintage Bas-Armagnac (750ml)

If there were ever a romantic ideal for French countryside distillation, the Baraillons are it. Out in the middle of nowhere, there's nothing glossed over or touristic about their operation - they are farmers, pure and simple. David and I absolutely fell in love with this father/daughter team even though they hardly said a word to us the entire time we tasted (they let their booze speak for itself). This single barrel 1985 brandy is one of the finest spirits we tasted on the entire trip. A mix of Ugni Blanc and Baco, the nose is absolutely hypnotizing - ...

1985 Longmorn 28 Year Old "Exclusive Malts" Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky (750ml)

92 points Whisky Advocate: "The nose is fascinating, as if dust is cohering into form, and fruity form at that. When it emerges there’s baked banana, fruitcake, citrus peels, passion fruit, mango, mace flower, and nutmeg. A mossy edge anchors it to earth. Even livelier with water, this is a superbly balanced, mature whisky. The palate is pure, with big retronasal impact of the spice. Layered and long, it’s at its best neat; you need the intensity to amplify all the complexity. Superb. (DB)" (03/2014) K&L Notes: A lighter, yet classically characteristic ...

1985 Graham's Vintage Port

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Graham is the undisputed star and kingpin of the 1985 vintage ports. Yes, it is made in a sweeter style than the other ports, but it is a fabulous wine because of a dazzling level of black-cherry fruit, an enormous structure, and staggering depth, dimension, and length. (RP)" (01/1989) 96 points Wine Spectator: "Dark color, with intense aromas of blackberry, licorice and hints of flowers. Full-bodied, lightly sweet, with superrefined tannins. Long and caressing. Very youthful. Will improve for a long time. This ...

1985 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan

93 points John Gilman: "The decade of the 1980s was a remarkable stretch for Château Haut-Bailly and the 1985 is another outstanding wine from this stunning string of wines. The superb and very perfumed nose offers up an expressive blend of black cherries, red plums, menthol, a touch of citrus, cigar ash, a lovely base of gravelly soil tones, black truffles and a bit of nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and utterly suave on the attack, with a fine core of fruit, perfect focus and balance and a very long, complex and softly tannic ...

1985 Prieure Lichine, Margaux (mid shoulder fill, slightly depressed cork)

Wine Spectator: "Ripe and supple with sweet oak, cedar and plum flavors that are elegant, but not especially deep. The tannins are gentle and it's well balanced." (02/1988)

1985 Warre's Vintage Port

91 points Wine Spectator: "Ruby-colored, with grape, dark chocolate and plum. Full and chewy. Tannins are still there and need to mellow. Medium-sweet and grapey. A little one-dimensional still, but impressive. '77/'85/'97 blind Port retrospective. (JS, Web Only-2008)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop... they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1 ...

1985 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red-ruby. Ripe aromas of plum, currant, lead pencil and milk chocolate. Sweet but penetrating and gripping, with lovely clarity of flavor and terrific thrust. Classic claret, with lovely fruit and a very long, ripely tannic finish. A compelling example from this very elegantly styled vintage. (ST)" (07/2002) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 is a gorgeous example that may well represent a more modern-day clone of the splendid 1953. Dark ruby/garnet with an open-knit, complex, ripe ...

1985 La Tour Figeac, St-Emilion (1.5L)

From the importer: "Chateau La Tour Figeac owes its name to a tower which still existed on the grounds at the end of the 19th century. Lying beside the same road as Chateau Cheval Blanc to the east, Chateau Figeac to the south, and next to Pomerol on the west, it occupies a magnificent position in the Saint-Emilion graves and ancient sands area. With the object of improving the quality of the production, each wine is aged in an air-conditioned cellar in barrels made of oak from different forest areas until the wines are finally assembled ready for bottli ...

1985 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1985 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru (94VN). Vinous: "Palish light-medium red. A strong element of freshly cut white mushroom complicates but does not overwhelm the very fresh, energetic aromas of blueberry, blackberry and spices. A juicy, spicy midweight with lovely floral/spicy lift to its intense dark fruit, mocha and earth flavors. Wonderfully expressive, balanced wine with a subtle, slowly mounting finish featuring perfectly integrated tannins and piquant notes of licorice and spices. Thierry Brouin made this wine with about one-third whole clusters (for the first time), which he says gave it greater silkiness of texture and sweeter tannins, not to mention accents of pepper and eucalyptus. This beautifully balanced, refined 1985 displays the suavity of the vintage's best examples as well as remarkable fruit retention. (13.3% alcohol; 3.51 pH; 4.0 g/l acidity) Drink through 2027.
