1986 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Still backward (frustratingly so), this wine shows a very dark ruby color with a hint of pink at the rim. The aromatics are beginning to emerge from just pure fruit-driven notes to secondary characteristics. Sweet earth, truffle, black currant, underbrush, and licorice emerge with coaxing. In the mouth, the wine is powerful, dense, with high tannin., impressive concentration, and a formidable, sort of old-style personality. The best 1986 Medocs are terrific wines, but have never been wines that show a lot of char ...

1986 Chalone Estate Pinot Noir

89 points Wine Spectator: "Aromatic, tight and flavorful, with dark cherry, toast and tobacco aromas and flavors that manage to hang on even after the somewhat tough tannins cross the palate. Long and remarkably Burgundian in style." (12/90)

1986 Rombauer Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

1986 Chateau de Ravignan Bas-Armagnac (750ml)

From the importer: "Castles have graced the property of what is now the Château de Ravignan since the 12th century. The name "Ravignan" itself comes from the deep ravines surrounding the property that once served as a natural defense. The château was later occupied by feudal barons and partially destroyed during the religious wars of the 16th century. In the mid-17th century, a Louis XIII manor was built on the property. Vineyards were planted in 1732. Around the same time, the property was sold to Jean La Croix, who later took the name Ravignan."

1986 Bruichladdich 30 Year Old Rare Cask Series "Sherry: The Magnificent Seven" Unpeated Islay Single Malt Whisky (black tin) (750ml)

The final seven casks from the '86 vintage aged in Oloroso sherry butts until being transfered to fresh Fernando di Castilla Pedro Ximinez casks for 4 years of additional maturation. This tiny release of some of Bruichladdich's oldest stocks are proof that the unpeated Islay can age just as gracefully as some of her smokey neighbors. Only 4200 bottles of this special whisky were produced and sold exclusively in the US so expect the international collectors to be on the hunt.

1986 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion

93 points John Gilman: "The 1986 Cheval Blanc is a beautiful wine and one of the sleeper vintages for this fine estate in the decade of the 1980s. The really refined and lovely nose wafts from the glass in a complex mélange of dark berries, menthol, cigar ash, herbal tones, soil, espresso and a deft touch of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, suave and classy, with a fine core of fruit, modest, ripe tannins and a very long, still modestly austere and perfectly balanced finish. All this lovely wine needs is just a bit more time in the c ...

1986 Rauzan-Ségla, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Rauzan-Ségla, Margaux (93JG, 92RP, 92VN). John Gilman: "For me, the renaissance at Rauzan-Ségla began with the 1983 vintage here, but the first vintage that really came to the attention of American claret lovers was the superb 1986, which continues to drink splendidly well at age thirty. The bouquet is deep, vibrant and very classy, jumping from the glass in a blend of cassis, sweet dark berries, tobacco leaf, a touch of bell pepper, leather, cigar smoke and dark soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely soil-driven in personality, with a fine core, lovely complexity and a long, poised and moderately tannic finish. This is now starting to drink very well indeed, but it has decades of life still ahead of it. (Drink between 2015-2045) " (08/2016)

1986 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (OWC)
Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 1986 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (OWC - 100DC, 100JD, 100JS, 100RP, 99VN, 99WS, 98ST) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1986 Mouton-Rothschild is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot that was picked from 2 October until 16 October. Winemaker Philippe Dhalluin, who was not working at the property back then, told me that the pH was fairly low at 3.54 when it is usually around 3.75, due to the natural tartaric acid in the vines. It has a powerful and intense bouquet as always: exemplary graphite and cedar scents, a touch of black pepper and incense. It seems to unfurl in the glass, like a motor revving its engine. The palate is beautifully balanced with its trademark firm tannic structure, a Mouton-Rothschild with backbone and masculinity. Layers of black fruit intermingling with mint and graphite, a hint of licorice emanating from the Merlot, gently fanning out and my God, it is incredibly lo

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1986 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (95WS, 94RP). Wine Spectator: "This remains a remarkably complex and flavorful wine, but now it's elegant and refined as well, with polished tannins. Classic Caymus in that it stretches the flavors, with a range that goes from herb and tea to ripe plum and cherry. Finishing with a long, complex aftertaste. (JL)" (12/1996)

1986 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1986 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien (96RP, 95VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Still tasting as if it were only 7-8 years of age, the dense, garnet/purple-colored 1986 Gruaud-Larose is evolving at a glacier pace. The wine still has mammoth structure, tremendous reserves of fruit and concentration, and a finish that lasts close to a minute. The wine is massive, very impressively constituted, with still some mouth-searing tannin to shed. Decanting of one to two hours in advance seems to soften it a bit, but this is a wine that seems to be almost immortal in terms of its longevity. It is a great Medoc classic, and certainly one of the most magnificent Gruaud-Larose ever made. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2035. (RP)" (01/2003)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1986 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The fully mature, open-knit 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is totally delicious. The color is dark garnet with some amber at the edge. The big, sweet, licorice, earthy, jammy, black fruit-scented nose is followed by a full-bodied, sweet, expansive, chewy wine with no hard edges. The acidity and tannin are both well-integrated in this plump, sumptuous Cabernet Sauvignon." (08/1996)

1986 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1986 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (95DC, 95RP, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Now at 30 years of age, there is a gulf between the two Pichons in this vintage that no longer exists. The 1986 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has long been one of the best wines from the estate alongside the 1982 (even if the first bottle was a little oxidized). The second bottle was representative. It has a classic pencil-lead, cedar-infused nose that rockets from the glass, a subtle floral note developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, a pinch of white pepper and cedar, structured compared to coeval vintages and perhaps further along its drinking plateau than previous examples. Certainly à point, I would be reaching for bottles of this now if you cannot locate those 1982s, or alternatively seek out the superlative 1996. This still remains a fine, rather regal Pichon-Lalande. (NM)" (12/2016)

1986 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (95DC, 92RP, 92VN). Decanter: "Vibrant deep colour, this has masses of spice box and minerals on the nose. Of course, the 86 was famous for its power and tannic structure and this is still muscular and foursquare, but the tannins are beginning to yield and soften. Very fresh acidity and classic sweet cassis fruit with notes of minerals, underbrush and tobacco. Very pure and long. Impressively, the wine had been decanted two hours previously and was still evolving in the glass more than an hour later. Tasted at Decanter Fine Wine Encounter 2015. Drinking Window 2015-2030. 1986 Penfolds "Grange" Shiraz South Australia
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Penfolds "Grange" Shiraz South Australia (98RP, 98WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of my favorite wines from Penfolds, the 1986 (a blend of 87% Shiraz and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon) is one of the most powerful Granges produced (14+% alcohol). At age 23, it reminds me of the way it tasted around 9 years of age. Inky/purple to the rim with an extraordinary perfume of sweet licorice, crushed pepper, blackberry liqueur, camphor, and barbecue spices, this sensationally full-bodied, concentrated, layered 1986 is still an infant in terms of its ultimate potential. It is remarkable how this wine has aged, and it’s hard to believe how certain wine geeks will subscribe to the aging ability of the Grange, but don’t believe the same is true for other old vine Shiraz wines from the Barossa and McLaren Vale. It just doesn’t make any sense. The 1986 is one of the greatest Granges for my palate, and it appears to still have 25-30 years of upside. 98+" (07/2009)

1986 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (98RP, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the château, the 1986 Lafite-Rothschild continues to offer an exquisite bouquet at 30 years of age. This is beautifully defined, still full of energy, with copious blackberry, clove, leather and graphite aromas that seem to gain momentum in the glass. The palate is extremely well balanced with a crystalline quality, filigree tannin, perfectly pitched acidity, a quintessential Lafite-Rothschild with a sense of energy and focus undiminished by time. This finish displays immense purity and refinement, one of the most mineral-driven Lafites that I have encountered, whilst the aftertaste seems to linger for over one minute. It must rank as one of the finest wines from the estate. (NM)" (12/2016)

Still incredibly youthful, it showed incredible focus and depth, all backed up by considerable structure. 1986 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1986 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley came across as a Spanish wine when it was poured. The color was medium dark garnet with considerable amber, orange, and rust at the edge. As the wine sat in the glass, the oak became better integrated, and an herbal, smoky, spicy, fruitcake-scented nose began to emerge. Tasters were equally split on whether they loved or hated it, with one taster correctly identifying it. However, within 10 minutes, the general consensus (I concurred) was that this was an intriguing, sweet, cedary, smoky, herbaceous, but expansive, exotic, chewy wine... (RP)" (06/1996)
