1999 Lestage Simon, Haut-Médoc

Chateau Lestage Simon is a lovely embodiment of a Cru Bourgeois. Located at Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, which is beside the great vineyard of Saint-Este`phe, this profits from an outstanding terroir which is complex and diverse, and whose uniqueness is the basis of the chateau’s wines. The situation of the vines vary considerably. Some grapes derive from sandy soils along the riverbank, others from limestone and clay-limestone soils further inland. The Cha^teau produces a supple Haut-Me´doc, whose structure, richness, and balance create excellent cellarin ...

1999 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Wine Spectator: "Rich, earthy, decadent aromas are intense and enormously concentrated, with sharply focused, currant, pencil lead, mineral, sage and dusty berry flavors that offer uncommon depth and concentration. Finishes with an amazingly long and detailed aftertaste. Should be a 20-year wine, with ease. *Collectibles* (JL)" (11/2002) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard (a 1,750-case blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, and 3% Merlot) boasts explosive aromas ...

1999 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This 1999 is one of the finest efforts of the vintage. It offers up complex aromatics consisting of herbs, red and black fruits, minerals, acacia flowers, and licorice. The dark plum color does not possess the saturation of a vintage such as 2000, but this is pure seduction in a medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, nicely-textured effort. It is virtually impossible to duplicate such a wine anywhere else in the world. (RP)" (04/2002) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red. Reticent aromas of raspb ...

1999 d'Arenberg "The Dead Arm" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This estate's most renowned offering is their old vine Shiraz (90+ year old vines) called The Dead Arm. The unfined/unfiltered 1999 The Dead Arm Shiraz (2,000 cases) was aged in 100% new oak, of which 70% was American and 30% French. It is about as natural and unmanipulated a product of the vineyard as one can find. (04/2002) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A powerful nose, with sweet tobacco and sultana, follows through to a full body, featuring ultrafine tannins and a long, long finish, as well as lovely texture. This needs more time. Still tight and structured. (JS, Web Only-2010)" 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Leoville-Barton ’99 has a well-defined nose, more restrained and extrovert than the Langoa, with notes of blackberry, wild hedgerow/woodland, Chinese tea and a dash of white pepper. 1999 Domaine de Courcel Pommard 1er Cru "Grand Clos des Épenots"

94 points Vinous: "Remarkably youthful ruby-red color. Inviting nose combines black cherry, raspberry and menthol, plus a suggestion of fruits macerated in alcohol. Very rich and very ripe, with flavors of black raspberry, black cherry, roasted coffee and chocolate given definition by harmonious acidity. Offers compelling sweetness and fullness without any heaviness. The wine's serious dusty tannins could still use a few more years to resolve but it's already showing the personality to offer pleasure with some time in a decanter. Winemaker Yves Confuron ...

A dense ruby/purple color accompanies sweet notes of black fruit, charcoal, licorice, new saddle leather, and dried herbs. This rich, multi-layered, medium to full-bodied red possesses a lush, hedonistic mouthfeel, complex aromatics, and a fabulous finish. This is the real deal! Enjoy it over the next 6-8 years. (JL)" (09/2003) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Bright red cherry fruit aromas cut with noticeable earth and spice notes precede medium weight, nicely precise and detailed flavors supported by moderate structure and a hair of finishing astringency. 1999 La Closerie du Poujeaux, Moulis

This great, ready to drink Bordeaux is composed of aproximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Chateau La Closerie du Grand Poujeaux is a direct neighbor of Chasse-Spleen, and like that Chateau is an almost secret, insiders Bordeaux. Moulis sits between Margaux and St. Julien, and this wine reflects that origin, with both great purfume and dark cassis power. It also has the texture that only time in the bottle can bring. A great value in ready to drink Bordeaux! -Gary Westby

While not a big wine, it is medium-bodied, intense, and moderately structured. It should improve in the bottle, and merit an outstanding score in 2-3 years. (RP)" (04/2002) Vinous: "The 1999 Brane-Cantenac was picked September 17-28 at 44.6hl/ha. 1999 Seven Lions Winery "Martinelli and Duckhorn" Russian River Valley Zinfandel

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This opaque purple-colored, medium to full-bodied Zinfandel is produced from some of the Russian River's finest soils/vineyards. Sweet, ripe black currant and cherry characteristics combine with smoky oak, and tangy acidity provides definition, vibrancy, and freshness in this large-scaled, concentrated, dense effort. 1999 Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne (3L)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the finest Champagnes I have ever brought to my lips, the 1999 Cristal bursts from the glass with fresh hazelnut and apple scents. Elegant, deep, and silky-textured, this medium to full-bodied beauty is immensely concentrated, pure, packed with apple flavors, and astoundingly long in the finish. Louis Roederer does not display a disgorgement date or consumer friendly lot number on its non-vintage Brut. 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Composed of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Merlot (89% from Sonoma and 11% from Napa), the 1999 is a much younger wine than the 1998 and still has some upside potential. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by notes of graphite, unsmoked high class cigar tobacco, black currants and flowers. Round and generous with some tannins in the finish, it is close to full maturity and should drink well for another 15+ years. Drink through 2026. 1999 Talley "Rincon Vineyard" Arroyo Grande Pinot Noir

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Incredibly complex and young. It’s got that sappy feel you get fresh from the fermenter, overlaid with the best smoky oak. The black cherry core of fruit is promising. Dry and tart, it should soften up and gain complexity in the cellar, and become absolutely first rate. " (12/2001) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Veers into earthy territory, but the ripe cherry, mint, cola and sassafras flavors give it balance.
