1999 La Closerie du Poujeaux, Moulis

This great, ready to drink Bordeaux is composed of aproximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Chateau La Closerie du Grand Poujeaux is a direct neighbor of Chasse-Spleen, and like that Chateau is an almost secret, insiders Bordeaux. Moulis sits between Margaux and St. Julien, and this wine reflects that origin, with both great purfume and dark cassis power. It also has the texture that only time in the bottle can bring. A great value in ready to drink Bordeaux! -Gary Westby

1999 Whitehall Lane "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright medium ruby. Fresh aromas of blackcurrant, violet and powdered chocolate. Bright, spicy flavors of currant, currant leaf and spices, with a sweet, creamy quality in the middle. Finishes with dusty, fairly ripe tannins. (ST)" (12/2002) Wine Spectator: "Complex, with a mix of earth, mineral, dried currant, leather and dusty, cedary oak. Full-bodied and youthful, this is a bit drying on the finish, yet drinking very well. (JL, Web-2009)"

1999 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A charming, lush, round, generous Lynch Bages, the 1999 offers plenty of sweet black currant fruit, damp earth, licorice, cedarwood and spicy herb-like characteristics. Medium-bodied, savory and broad in the mouth with no hard edges, this fully mature effort is a somewhat underrated vintage for this estate. (RP)" (08/2011) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark ruby-red with a hint of garnet at the rim. 1999 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Chardonnay

90+ points from Robert Parker! Hanzell Vineyards Chardonnay is rich, but vibrant. In its youth it is filled with the sharp signature of the chardonnay grape: pear, pineapple, citrus, green apple. Also present when young is a steely, minerally quality and bright citrus crispness. As the chardonnay matures it gains nuances of sweet pear, honey, ripe apple, vanilla, hazelnut, smoke, and toasted almond. Hanzell Vineyards uses almost exclusively Tonnellerie Sirugue barrels from Nuits-St.-Georges, France to age the chardonnay. Approximately 25-40% is allowed t ...

1999 Bertrand Ambroise Corton Grand Cru "Le Rognet"

94-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The intense, black-colored 1999 Corton Le Rognet reveals black fruit, fresh herb, and Asian spice aromas. Ambroise generally produces 32 hectoliters per hectare from his 0.7 hectares of vines in this grand cru. In 1999, however, he harvested 40 hectoliters per hectare at 14.5% natural potential alcohol. This is a monster of a wine, crammed with blackberries, road tar, cherries, kirsch, and a myriad of spices. Its loads of exquisitely ripened tannins are soaked in sweet, candied fruits. This powerful, chewy off ...

1999 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This 1999 is one of the finest efforts of the vintage. It offers up complex aromatics consisting of herbs, red and black fruits, minerals, acacia flowers, and licorice. The dark plum color does not possess the saturation of a vintage such as 2000, but this is pure seduction in a medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, nicely-textured effort. It is virtually impossible to duplicate such a wine anywhere else in the world. (RP)" (04/2002) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red. Reticent aromas of raspb ...

1999 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Lafite Rothschild sports an engraved '1999' on the bottle along with an eclipse to mark that significant historical event of August, 1999. It is a quintessential offering from Lafite Rothschild. This prodigious wine is both elegant and intensely flavored, and almost diaphanous in its layers that unfold with no heaviness. An opaque ruby/purple color is accompanied by a complex bouquet of lead pencil, graphite, cedar, creme de cassis, toast, and vanilla. It is medium-bodied, with extravagant layers of rich ...

1999 Canon-La Gaffelière, St-Emilion

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Canon La Gaffeliere's opaque purple-colored 1999 is a strong effort for this vintage. It displays a sweet nose of pain grille, smoke, meats, graphite, blackberry, and cassis liqueur. The wine is full-bodied, deep, powerful, and rich, with sweet tannin and low acidity. This is a blockbuster effort for a delicate vintage such as 1999. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2016." (04/2002) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good medium ruby. 1999 Vina Sastre "Regina Vides" Ribera del Duero

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Regina Vides spent 24 months in new French oak and, like its siblings, was bottled without fining or filtration. An opaque purple color is followed by gorgeous aromas of blackberry liqueur intermixed with cassis, graphite, leather, and earth. Medium to full-bodied and ripe, with its tannin largely obscured by rich extract, glycerin, and texture, this is an impressive albeit expensive offering. Spice box, vanillin, and black fruits show through, but the wine is big, backward, and needing 2-3 years of cellaring, somewhat atypical for a 1999. It should last for 15+ years. (10/2002) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 300+ cases of Merus's 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon (the second vintage produced by proprietors Mark Herold and Erika Gottl) which tips the scales with a well-hidden 14.8% alcohol. (JL)" (10/2001) Wine Enthusiast: "What a complex nose on this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cab Franc. The dominant aroma is a leathery, grilled meat scent, alongside charred oak. Elegant, deep, and silky-textured, this medium to full-bodied beauty is immensely concentrated, pure, packed with apple flavors, and astoundingly long in the finish.
