2001 York Creek Estate "Meritage" Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon

Winery's Notes: "In the early years we made wine from all four of the top varieties grown in Bordeaux, and made our blends a little differently each year. Though each vintage was predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, the blends also contained varying amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. York Creek Estate consists of roughly 125 acres of land high above the Napa and Sonoma valleys, on the crest of the Mayacamas Range of mountains. It is an area which on the Napa side has long been known as "Spring Mountain." For more than 100 years this area h ...

2001 Coufran, Haut-Médoc

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a medium-bodied, elegant wine offering up scents of plums, cherries, and loamy soil. With good sweetness, an attractive flavor profile, low acidity, and ripe tannin, it should provide enjoyment over the next 5-6 years. (RP)" (04/2003) Wine Spectator: "A pleasant wine with plum and fresh mint character. Medium-bodied, with velvety tannins and a light finish. (JS)" (03/2004)

Wine Spectator: "Attractive plum, berry and vanilla character follows through to a full-bodied palate, with soft, silky tannins and a long finish. Always very good quality for the money. Best after 2006." (03/2004) K&L Notes: Ralph and I love the 2001 vintage Bordeaux because the wines just taste great, and they have tasted great since 2007. They are elegant and fruit driven, with no hard edges. This wine is one of those value Bordeaux for parties and everyday drinking. Red fruits abound. Serve with a nice hamburger from the barbecue. 2001 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml)

100 points James Suckling: "This is so layered and intense on the palate with lemons and dried pineapple, mango and honey. Full body, very sweet, but it remains tangy and vibrant. Shows such amazing balance and intensity. Crazy finish. Hints of vanilla and apple purée. One of the greatest Yquems ever. All about purity here. " (09/2013) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "You may ask: what is the point? Another perfect score for the 2001 d'Yquem. Oh well, why not? This bottle, served blind, reinforced the sheer unadulterated brilliance of this le ...

2001 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Monte Bello is a very atypical vintage for Ridge, attaining a record high alcohol of 14.1% and containing an unprecedented 36% Merlot. Baugher remembers that the grapes retained green, unripe flavors while sugars soared, so he was forced to wait to pick. It's hard not to be seduced by the resulting wine, which wafts from the glass with lavish aromas of ripe plums, black truffles, dark chocolate, cigar ash and loamy soil. It's full-bodied, ample and dramatic, with a broad, expansive attack and a voluptuou ...

Excellent concentration and balance. Loads of botrytis character on the finish. Intense. Hard to refrain from drinking it now, it's so luscious and rich. *Top 100 of 2004, Highly Recommended* (JS)" (09/2004) 95 points James Suckling: "Intensely fruity and rich with wonderful sweetness and loads of spicy and honey character with a dried apricot undertone. 2001 Suduiraut, Sauternes

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A prodigious effort, possibly the finest Suduiraut since 1959, the medium gold-colored 2001 offers notes of creme brulee, caramelized citrus, Grand Marnier, honeysuckle, and other exotic fruits as well as a pleasant touch of oak. With terrific acidity, a voluptuous/unctuous palate, and sweet, powerful flavors buttressed by crisp acidity, it is a phenomenal Sauternes. 2001 d'Arenberg "The Dead Arm" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Readers should be on the look out for the 2001 The Dead Arm Shiraz, one of the greatest examples of this cuvee. Its dense, black/purple color is accompanied by celestial aromas of melted licorice, graphite, blackberries, cassis, incense, anise, and toasty oak. Fabulously concentrated, with great purity, an unctuous, viscous texture, and an amazingly long, 60-second plus finish, this fabulous baby will need 5-6 years of cellaring, and should drink well over the following 20-25 years. 2001 Bressler Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I believe this 2001 was made by well-known consultants Mia Klein and David Abreu. Plum, black currant, licorice, incense and graphite result in a complex, open-knit, stylish set of aromatics. In the mouth, a Margaux-like elegance and feminine style are found in this pretty yet soft, medium-bodied Cabernet. The acids, tannins, alcohol and wood components are all nicely integrated in this enjoyable, complex effort. It should continue to age effortlessly for another decade. (RP)" (05/2011)

This has wonderful fruit in the mouth, with a lovely creaminess of tex ture but also firm grip. Floral, rich and sweet, but not yet expansive. "Not yet complete" is the way Fantino describes this still-young vintage. Should prove to be the best of the '99-'01 trio. A bit of a beast, this full-bodied, rich and dense wine is contoured by a medium level of very fine tannins and a lively, balanced acid line before it finishes long and layered. Drink it now to 2020. 2001 Nickel & Nickel "Suscol Ranch" Napa Valley Merlot

The 2000 Merlot offers ripe flavors of dark plum and wild berry enhanced by underlying layers of herb and sweet oak. The unique character of this vineyard includes suppleness on the palate that few Merlots can offer. 2001 Flora Springs "Trilogy" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

Displaying beautiful finesse and richness as well as a layered mouthfeel, it offers up notes of red and black currants, hints of blue fruits and raspberries, camphor, sweet oak, forest floor and underbrush.
