2003 Glentauchers 15 Year Old "Chieftain's" Single Sherry Butt Speyside Single Malt Whisky (750ml)

After many years out of the California market, the Chieftain's brand is back. Don't get too excited because along with their re-introduction, they've recently announced their final run of single cask offerings. While we wait patiently for the demise of this famous brand, we found this gorgeous little butt of 'Tauchers sitting in a warehouse in New Jersey. Delicious sherried malt from one of Scotland's least known distillers for less than $100? Wait, less than $75? Yes please! Glentauchers Distillery was built in 1898, just a few years before the entire S ...

2003 d'Arenberg "The Dead Arm" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of this estate’s flagship wines, the 2003 The Dead Arm Shiraz appears to be better than the 2002. A deeper, richer, fuller-bodied offering that spent time in equal parts French and American oak, it possesses an opaque purple color, great intensity, and a fabulously sweet nose of blackberries, cassis, asphalt, earth, and oak. Powerful, super-concentrated, and obviously fashioned from low yields and old vines, this is a classic McLaren Vale old vine Shiraz that should age nicely for 15+ years. (RP)" (10/2005) ...

2003 Quilceda Creek Washington Cabernet Sauvignon

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another wine I’ve had multiple times recently, the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot) is pure perfection in a glass and yields off-the-hook aromatics of cassis, black raspberries, tobacco leaf, pepper and licorice. Deep, layered and even elegant, with a seamless texture that conceals the sheer wealth of material present, it builds through the mid-palate, possesses huge amounts of extract and masses of polished tannin on the finish. Despite the overall size, it never loses its Cabernet ...

2003 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir

Aromas of mountain strawberries and cherry are present, but this wine is far more complex than primary fruit. Over days, an opened bottle reveals intriguing layers. There is the venerable smell of the interior of an antique armoire, perhaps leather and tobacco too. At a certain point the wine shows an iron and mineral coldness that then passes to saffron and earthy depth. The fruit is persistent, but not dominant, as it changes from fresh ripe red fruits to hibiscus flower and tea flavors. The texture, although more supple than the previous vintage, is f ...

2003 Rieussec, Sauternes

97 points James Suckling: "So rich and powerful with so much dried apricots and citrus aromas and flavors. Caramel and toffee. Full and very sweet. Amazing." (10/2016) 92-95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium yellow-gold. Reticent but pure aromas of fruit salad, spices and vanilla, lifted by floral and mineral nuances. Wonderfully honeyed, fat fruit flavors are complemented by cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. The sexy oak treatment gives lift to the wine. A bit youthfully aggressive but very long on the back end, showing vanillin oak ...

2003 D.R. Stephens "Premiere Napa Valley" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Premiere Napa Valley lots are incredibly limited, one-off bottlings from some of the region’s top producers. Only five cases of this bottling were produced. Winery Notes: “Every year winemaker Celia Masyczek tastes and sniffs her way through the cellar seeking those lots of D.R. Stephens Cabernet Sauvignon that represent the best of the vintage. She sets one such barrel aside for Premiere Napa Valley. This year's selection promises to be special indeed with its dark red color and rich full flavors. (RP)" (12/2005) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Cassis, chocolate, licorice and a floral topnote on the nose; shows an almost roasted ripeness. 2003 David Bruce Santa Cruz Mountain Pinot Noir

This wine combines Pinot Noir from David Bruce's Estate vineyard and that of several small family-owned vineyards. All of these quality oriented vineyard sites benefit from the cooling influences of the Pacific Ocean extending our growing season, allowing Pinot Noir to achieve mature flavors without becoming overripe. The Estate vineyard adds a solid backbone structure to hold the dense black cherry fruit it contributes.

2003 Paul Hobbs Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The beautiful 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Paul Hobbs’ multiple sources. It exhibits a vibrant, young, blue/black color as well as a stunning nose of Asian plum sauce, black currants, blueberries and a touch of forest floor. Rich, opulent and full-bodied, it is meant for early drinking, but at age ten, it is showing no signs of premature aging. The pleasure police may accuse this wine of being a fruit bomb, but, boy, is it gorgeous, rich and satisfying on both a hedonistic and intellect ...

The 2003 boasts aromas of crushed rock, quince, lemon butter, and orange marmalade, followed by a full-bodied, powerful yet extraordinarily elegant wine with an amazing finish. Nearly 3,000 cases were produced of this flowery, tar, camphor, incense, blackberry, black currant, espresso and chocolate-scented beauty. A blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, a whopping 22% Cabernet Franc and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, this full-bodied, opulent 2003 is just entering its plateau of full maturity. Pahlmeyer-s wines, first made by Helen Turley, continue to go from strength to strength. 2003 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Chardonnay

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "For decades Hanzell has been making one of California’s most (and only) ageworthy Chards. The ’03 is one for the cellar, but it comes at the price of being hard in youth. Starts out flinty and tannic, although as it airs, new oak and pineapple emerge. This seems like a very good Hanzell. Best 2009–2015. 2003 Turley "Moore Earthquake" Napa Valley Zinfandel

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Zinfandel Moore Earthquake Vineyard is a prodigious effort. The good news is that there are 500 cases of this offering, which tips the scales at 16.3% alcohol. A big, sweet bouquet of red and black currants, raspberries, licorice, and hints of cassis and pepper is followed by a full-bodied, rich, voluptuously-textured Zin with crisp, zesty acidity, huge body, and terrific definition as well as vibrancy. 2003 Nickel & Nickel "Suscol Ranch" Napa Valley Merlot

Wine & Spirits: "Cool scents of raspberry begin to gain on the oak tones as this fills out with air. Past the smoky wood spice, a mineral aspect adds to the firmness of the wine." (08/2006) K&L Notes: Similar to the 2002, this wine is quite impressive, offering layers of interest. Ripe flavors of dark plum and wild berry are enhanced by underlying layers of herb, cedar and sweet oak. Connoisseurs Guide: "Even accepting that Cabernet Sauvignon is a grape that delivers its fair share of tannin, this wine goes a little bit overboard in its late parts, and the ripe, rich aromas and reasonably fruity flavors that come before are more than a little bit occluded at the back. Still, there is fruit at its heart, and, for those willing to wait, the wine may well reward their patience."
