2003 Columbia Crest Columbia Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points from Robert Parker! -"The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve was sourced from a variety of vineyard sites in several AVAs. It was aged for 26 months in 100% new oak, a mix of French and American. Purple-colored, the wine exhibits scents of pain grille, scorched earth, black currant, blackberry, and licorice. On the palate it offers abundant spicy black fruits, chocolate, and mocha. There is plenty of depth and a long 45+ second finish. The structure is present for 4-6 years of further development in the bottle and it should provide pleasure throug ...

2003 D.R. Stephens "Premiere Napa Valley" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Premiere Napa Valley lots are incredibly limited, one-off bottlings from some of the region’s top producers. Only five cases of this bottling were produced. Winery Notes: “Every year winemaker Celia Masyczek tastes and sniffs her way through the cellar seeking those lots of D.R. Stephens Cabernet Sauvignon that represent the best of the vintage. She sets one such barrel aside for Premiere Napa Valley. This year's selection promises to be special indeed with its dark red color and rich full flavors. 2003 Aubert "Ritchie Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Reminiscent of a Batard-Montrachet, the light straw/greenish-colored 2003 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard boasts a huge, opulent, tropical fruit, roasted hazelnut, brioche, and spice box-scented bouquet. Notions of orange marmalade and citrus oil also emerge in the flavors. Full-bodied and spectacularly concentrated, it is the finest effort I have tasted from this cold climate vineyard. (RP)" (12/2005) 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, pale yellow. Deep, highly complex nose melds grapef ...

2003 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Absolutely superb, this 2003 is drinking beautifully. This blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot from the famous hillside Eisele Vineyard in northeast Napa Valley tips the scales at 14.5% natural alcohol. Gorgeously fresh black currant and black raspberry notes intermixed with spring flowers and forest floor jump from the glass from one of the most aromatically complex wines of the vintage. Medium to full-bodied with sweet fruit, velvety, melted, integrated tannin, a round, genero ...

(10/2016) 92-95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium yellow-gold. Reticent but pure aromas of fruit salad, spices and vanilla, lifted by floral and mineral nuances. Wonderfully honeyed, fat fruit flavors are complemented by cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. The sexy oak treatment gives lift to the wine. A bit youthfully aggressive but very long on the back end, showing vanillin oak ...

2003 Turley "Moore Earthquake" Napa Valley Zinfandel

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Zinfandel Moore Earthquake Vineyard is a prodigious effort. The good news is that there are 500 cases of this offering, which tips the scales at 16.3% alcohol. A big, sweet bouquet of red and black currants, raspberries, licorice, and hints of cassis and pepper is followed by a full-bodied, rich, voluptuously-textured Zin with crisp, zesty acidity, huge body, and terrific definition as well as vibrancy. This large-scaled wine should drink well for up to a decade. (RP)" (02/2005)

Wonderful aromas and flavors of apricot, flowers and slate, with pinpoint balance and a long, almost salty aftertaste. Deceptive and completely disarming in its appeal. Drink now through 2030. *Collectibles* (BS)" (03/2005) 94 points John Gilman: "This 2003 Goldkapsel Auslese from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, AP #9, spent three and a half to four years in tank prior to its bottling in 2007. Nearly 3,000 cases were produced of this flowery, tar, camphor, incense, blackberry, black currant, espresso and chocolate-scented beauty. A blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, a whopping 22% Cabernet Franc and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, this full-bodied, opulent 2003 is just entering its plateau of full maturity. Immense in scale and depth, this is hard to lay off now, but should be even more impressive when it drops its muscle to show more elegance (that will take a while, though). Best from 2008 through 2030. *Collectibles. Rank 16, Top 100 Wines of 2006* (JM)" (04/2006) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The structured and backward, inky ruby/purple-colored 2003 ...

Allen Meadows writes: "There is real elegance to the very ripe but perfumed red fruit nose and a lovely and seductive silkiness to the flavors, an adjective that one rarely uses to describe the typical ’03, in fact, blind it would be difficult to identify this as an ’03. That said, relative to the cask sample there is a slight dryness on the finish though it’s not enough to really detract significantly from the delicious flavors." There is no evidence of toasty oak to be found in this beauty from Randy Dunn. Drink it now or cellar it for 15+ years. It finished at 13.8% natural alcohol. 2003 Malartic-Lagravière, Pessac-Léognan

89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Like many former Bordeaux underachievers, Malartic-Lagraviere has been making beautifully elegant, classic/textbook Pessac-Leognans under a relatively new Belgian administration. Plum, cassis, smoked herb, tobacco, and licorice-like scents emerge from the medium dark garnet-tinged 2003. Dry tannins in the finish do not detract from the wine’s overall seductive personality. While this is not one of Malartic-Lagraviere’s finest successes over recent years, it is an excellent wine to enjoy over the next 10-12 years. ...

They utilize about 20% new oak as well as 100% destemming. Approximately 5% Viognier is co-fermented with the Syrah. 2003 Bellefont-Belcier, St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Because of this terroir’s limestone soils, 2003 was not nearly as stressful for this vineyard as for those planted in gravelly, sandy soils. This is an incredibly primary Serpico, with little in the way of tertiary development. Ideally, it is best left alone for another few years, but readers fortunate enough to own this are in for a thrilling ride once the wine opens up a bit. 2003 Nickel & Nickel "Suscol Ranch" Napa Valley Merlot

Similar to the 2002, this wine is quite impressive, offering layers of interest. Ripe flavors of dark plum and wild berry are enhanced by underlying layers of herb, cedar and sweet oak. The unique character of this vineyard includes a suppleness on the palate that few Merlots can offer. Its distinctiveness lies in the lush, velvety tannins that expand upon the initial sip and develop with richness through the finish. This evolution allows one to enjoy the wine today, yet also rewards those who choose to lay it down in the cellar.
