2003 Glen Scotia "Malts Festival 2019 Limited Edition" Rum Cask Finish Peated Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Elsewhere $109)

Once hailed as the whisky capital of the world, Campbeltown has seen its number of distilleries reduced to just three. All three make peated and unpeated whisky in a unique style that gives credence to Campbeltown's designation as a unique whisky producing region in Scotland. This 2019 limited release for Cambeltown's Malts Festival spent 15 years in American oak hogsheads and then an additional eight months in demerara Guyana rum barrels. The results are stupendous—sweet peat jives with malty goodness loaded with orange peel and sweet baking spices. The ...

2003 d'Arenberg "The Dead Arm" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of this estate’s flagship wines, the 2003 The Dead Arm Shiraz appears to be better than the 2002. A deeper, richer, fuller-bodied offering that spent time in equal parts French and American oak, it possesses an opaque purple color, great intensity, and a fabulously sweet nose of blackberries, cassis, asphalt, earth, and oak. Powerful, super-concentrated, and obviously fashioned from low yields and old vines, this is a classic McLaren Vale old vine Shiraz that should age nicely for 15+ years. (RP)" (10/2005) ...

2003 D.R. Stephens "Premiere Napa Valley" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Premiere Napa Valley lots are incredibly limited, one-off bottlings from some of the region’s top producers. Only five cases of this bottling were produced. Winery Notes: “Every year winemaker Celia Masyczek tastes and sniffs her way through the cellar seeking those lots of D.R. Stephens Cabernet Sauvignon that represent the best of the vintage. She sets one such barrel aside for Premiere Napa Valley. This year's selection promises to be special indeed with its dark red color and rich full flavors. The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and has not been fin ...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This sumptuous, rich, complex Margaux reveals a fragrant nose of cedarwood, spring flowers, spice box, black currants and earth. Medium to full-bodied with silky tannins and a dense, plum/ruby/purple color. (RP)" (08/2014) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Excellent deep red. Very sexy, expressive aromas of plum and milk chocolate. Sweet, lush and ripe, with considerable power and thrust for the vintage. Very 2003 in its slightly roasted character but this boasts very good concentration and ...

2003 Seavey Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the blockbuster wines of the vintage, Seavey’s 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon was made with consulting assistance from Philippe Melka. It spent 19 months in 50% new French oak prior to bottling. A big, robust, exuberant, powerful Conn Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from dry-farmed hillside vineyards and extremely low yields, it achieved a lofty 15.4% natural alcohol (which is not the least bit noticeable in the wine’s flavor profile). Truffle, new saddle leather, black currant, spice box and Grave-like scorched earth ...

2003 Woodward Canyon "Estate Red" Walla Walla Valley, Washington

92 points from Robert Parker: "The 2003 Estate Red Wine is composed of 44% Cabernet Franc, 41% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Petit Verdot. It was fermented with native yeasts and was aged in 100% new oak. The product of the warmest vintage on record for Walla Walla, the wine is dark ruby-colored and offers up an excellent nose of toasty black currants, blackberry, spice box, and fresh herbs. This is followed by a firm, layered, well-balanced wine which is built to last. There is moderate, ripe tannin leading to a long, pure finish. Give this Sai ...

2003 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir

Aromas of mountain strawberries and cherry are present, but this wine is far more complex than primary fruit. Over days, an opened bottle reveals intriguing layers. There is the venerable smell of the interior of an antique armoire, perhaps leather and tobacco too. At a certain point the wine shows an iron and mineral coldness that then passes to saffron and earthy depth. The fruit is persistent, but not dominant, as it changes from fresh ripe red fruits to hibiscus flower and tea flavors. The texture, although more supple than the previous vintage, is f ...

2003 Domaine de Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A big, ripe and exuberant wine, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape offers lots of plum and purple fruits, licorice, spice and hints of meatiness on the nose. Full-bodied, voluptuously textured and with lots of fruit, it has a slightly dry edge to the tannin so drink up. (JD)" (09/2015) Vinous: "Medium red. Ripe, powerful red berry fruit aromas accented by smoke and roasted coffee. A big, round, dense wine with a flavor of jammy raspberry. Quite tannic but the finishing impression is one of ripe, dense, lingering berr ...

2003 Quilceda Creek Washington Cabernet Sauvignon

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another wine I’ve had multiple times recently, the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot) is pure perfection in a glass and yields off-the-hook aromatics of cassis, black raspberries, tobacco leaf, pepper and licorice. Deep, layered and even elegant, with a seamless texture that conceals the sheer wealth of material present, it builds through the mid-palate, possesses huge amounts of extract and masses of polished tannin on the finish. Despite the overall size, it never loses its Cabernet ...

Similar to the Barrett Vineyard offering, it appears to be on a fast evolutionary track." (12/2006)

2003 Pierre Usseglio "Mon Aïeul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The best bottle of this I've had (and I've had plenty), Usseglio's 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul is a blockbuster and one of the true stars of this vintage. Almost all Grenache (there's a small part of Syrah and Cinsault) that was harvest between September 1-13, partially destemmed and aged in both tank and foudre, this massive, voluptuous effort is almost overflowing with notes of ground herbs, chocolate dusted meats, black fruits and licorice. It is medium to full-bodied, pure, rich, and authoritative. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. " (12/2006) 91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Emphatic ripeness is a key player here, and it is hard to ignore the wine's chocolaty bias and its tail of finishing heat, but the deep and wonderfully well-concentrated fruit that appears at literally every turn makes its r ...

(03/2013) 93 points John Gilman: "The 2003 Suduiraut is the finest example of this vintage in Sauternes that I have yet tasted, though this is admittedly from a fairly small sampling of the vintage. A big, sweet bouquet of red and black currants, raspberries, licorice, and hints of cassis and pepper is followed by a full-bodied, rich, voluptuously-textured Zin with crisp, zesty acidity, huge body, and terrific definition as well as vibrancy. 2003 Dyer Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon

Winery notes: "At Dyer Straits Wine Co., we have a singular focus. We planted Dyer vineyard in 1993 on a site where volcanic gravel mingles with large volcanic boulders that slid from the ridge above thousands of years ago. The 2.3 acres of vines are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, 78% and two Bordeaux blending varieties; Cabernet Franc, 16% and Petit Verdot, 6% - a mix which we have refined over the years. Our farming methods are sustainable, we use only organic sprays to prevent mildew, and weed whackers instead of herbicide- we live here after all."

This wine gets richer and more intense as the vineyard matures. Dark fruit impressions mixed with a sweet perfume of floral and berry can be found in the aroma.
