2011 Nickel & Nickel "State Ranch" Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon

Nickel & Nickel was founded in Oakville in 1997 by the owners of Far Niente (the similarity of the labels is hard to miss). In contrast to Far Niente, Nickel & Nickel is dedicated to producing single-varietal wines from distinct individual vineyards. Each vineyard is farmed and vinified to best illustrate its unique site. In turn, some vineyards are not far apart in distance, but the wines are very different in character. State Ranch was planted in 1990 and 2005 in particularly well-draining rocky loam soils.

2011 Lambert Bridge Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

For over 40 years, Lambert Bridge has been a staple of the Dry Creek Valley wine scene in Sonoma County. Now under the ownership of the Chambers family, and under the winemaking guidance of Jennifer Higgins, the winery turns out quintessential Bordeaux-style wines from estate and contract vineyards throughout the North Coast. The 2011 vintage was notoriously difficult across most of the North Coast, but the wines have evolved in a completely unexpected fashion, showing grace, poise, and balance that only a cool vintage can bring to the New World profile. ...

2011 Concha y Toro "Don Melchor" Cabernet Sauvignon Puente Alto

95 points Decanter: "With 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and some drops of Cabernet Franc, this comes from the traditional Tocornal Vineyard, planted in the mid-1970s. A cold vintage reveals its herbal, spicy flavours, but above all a crunchy, vivacious acidity and pungent tannins that need time in a bottle. A brilliant version of a classic. " (05/2015) 95 points James Suckling: "Gorgeous aromas of eucalyptus, black currants, berries and stones. Medium to full body, fine tannins and tension. Firm, caressing texture. This remains one of the top cabs of Chile a ...

2011 Levy & McClellan Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

93-95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Black fruits, licorice and mocha on the nose. Dense, sweet and deep, showing compelling energy and early harmony to the dark fruit and floral flavors. At once primary and pliant owing to its layered texture. The rich, thoroughly ripe tannins dust the front teeth on the very long back end. Levy and McClellan ferment this wine entirely in barrel (most of it Taransaud oak) to build its middle palate and soften its naturally strong tannins. The wine is typically low in acidity due to ...

2011 Turley "The Label" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90-92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(Larry Turley bought this property next to his winery north of St. Helena in 2009 and promptly pulled out the merlot and replanted it to cabernet sauvignon; aged in one-third new oak, vs. 20% for the zinfandels here; tasted from tank a day or two prior to bottling): Good full red. Nice lift to the aromas and flavors of currant and pepper. Sweet, supple and scented, in a gentle, seamless style. An herbal quality contributes to the wine's juicy character and light touch. Finishes seamless and p ...

2011 McGah Family Vineyards "Scarlett" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Wine Spectator: "Delivers a rich allure to the dark berry, black licorice, loamy earth, and tobacco-cigar box edges. Tilts toward extracted fruit and tannins, which will appeal to those who like to chew on young wines. Drink now through 2023. 392 cases made. (JL, Web Only, 2014)" 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe blackberry, cherry and cassis flavors join with caramelized oak to yield this rich, opulent Cabernet. It’s an elaborate wine, but too young, with brusque tannins. Give it until 2020-2021 and see how it’s doing. *Cellar Selection* " (04 ...

2011 Fairchild Estate "Sigaro Vineyard" St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon (torn label)

94 points Vinous: "Fairchild's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Sigaro is drop-dead gorgeous. Grilled herbs, smoke, tobacco, licorice and menthol are all woven together in a silky, impeccably polished Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2011 stands out for its pure textural elegance and class. Sweet raspberries, mint and wild flowers linger on a perfumed, fragrant finish that turns increasingly savory and complex over time. This is a fabulous showing for the year. Larry Fairchild purchased his Sigaro vineyard in 1999. There are two plantings; the original 1 acre parcel, and ...

2011 Doubleback Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

In this generally cool vintage, Doubleback selected all of the fruit for their Cabernet Sauvignon bottling from their warmer vineyard sites of Southern Walla Walla Valley. The result is a rare example of what could be described as a voluptuous and generous profile. The wine is comprised of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon with 5% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec and was aged for 20 months in 71% new French oak barrels before bottling. From the winemaker: "The nose explodes with crushed and sautéed bramble fruit, crème brulee, and a dusting of allspice. The p ...

2011 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Vinous: "Dark plum, mocha, spice, licorice and asphalt meld together in the 2011 Scarecrow. One of the most powerful, resonant wines of the year, the 2011 is endowed with serious structure. Readers need to be patient. Today the tannins are super powerful, but at the same time there is tremendous complexity in the glass. The 2011 is arguably the most refined Scarecrow ever made. There is plenty of depth, but also incredible elegance and precision throughout. (AG) 96+" (11/2013) 91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A notable success in ...

2011 Far Niente Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points James Suckling: "Rich dark berry fruits with plenty of swagger; this has bundles of sweet fruit flavor on the palate with plenty of deep and convincingly rich fruit flesh and bold presence. The tannins are nicely wrapped into play, folds well and builds nicely. More herbal, sappy and greener style here. (NS)" (01/2015) K&L Notes: The 2011 vintage offered challenging situations, as well as unique opportunities, for wineries that had the right stuff. As the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignons are released, many are turning out to be quite classically styl ...

2011 Outpost "True Vineyard" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better is the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon True Vineyard, one of the candidates for wine of the vintage. It, too, is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and is given the same basic elevage as the other wines except the percentage of new French oak increases to 90%. There are 375 cases of this beauty, which may be the greatest Cabernet Sauvignon Outpost has made to date. 2011 Sarah Francis "Beckstoffer GIII Vineyard" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon (chipped capsule)

The Beckstoffer website offers this history of the Georges III Vineyard: "Historical records show that a portion of this vineyard was planted in 1895 by Mrs. Thomas Rutherford. This 300-acre parcel first purchased by Beaulieu founder Georges de Latour in 1928 and called Beaulieu Vineyard Number 3, was the home to BV’s Rutherford Cabernets made by the renowned winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff. These wines achieved wide acclaim in the 1960’s and 70’s, establishing BV’s pre-eminence in the making of fine Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Purchased by Beckstoffer ...

2011 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More serious, and one of the wines of the vintage, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has uncommon concentration and depth in the vintage, as well as a broad, structured profile that will allow it to age gracefully. Loaded with sweet creme de cassis, exotic spice, licorice and graphite, it’s a full-bodied, elegant and classically styled effort that has nothing out of place, fine, building tannin and a rock star finish. It will be approachable at an earlier stage than most vintages, yet still ha ...

2011 Château Musar Rouge Bekaa Valley Lebanon

93 points Decanter: "A very wet spring in 2011 in the Bekaa Valley led to a delayed season and their second latest harvest on record. This has aromas of plum sauce and damson, varnished woods and noticeable volatile acidity – part of the style. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with tangy balsamic acidity and a savoury, leathery finish. It's just starting to drink now but will last well thanks to its dense lattice of ripe tannins. 2011 Round Pond "Estate" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Vinous: "Herbs, tobacco, cedar, iron, smoke and incense emerge from the glass in the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate. A gorgeous, savory and totally expressive wine, the 2011 impresses for its balance and pedigree. This is without question one of the most beautiful wines of the year. The profile is decidedly European-influenced in its aromatics and structure, but the fruit is pure Napa Valley. 2011 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $119)

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(30% new oak): Bright ruby-red. Captivating, high-pitched aromas of cassis, licorice pastille, bitter chocolate, violet, rose petal and mocha. Juicy and tightly wound, with fresh acidity energizing the middle palate but keeping the wine's dark berry flavors restrained today. There's a lightly peppery quality that gives away the vintage, but this highly aromatic wine is a big success for the year and very well made. 2011 Cayuse "Camaspelo" Walla Walla Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More Cabernet Sauvignon dominated, the 2011 Camaspelo incorporates 20% Merlot and was aged in 50-60% new French oak. One of the few 2011s that has some upside, it offers up a smoke-laced array of black currants, singed herbs, graphite and hints of spring flowers to go with a medium to full-bodied, elegant and seamless character on the palate. Inky purple in color, with fine tannin and a big finish, it’s a smoking Cabernet that will evolve nicely for 15 to 20 years. (JD)" (06/2014) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ca ...

2011 Schrader "Beckstoffer To Kalon - CCS" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Made in a showy, flamboyant style, it boasts a dense ruby/purple color as well as sweet notes of creme de cassis, violets, licorice, forest floor and new oak. This supple, round effort is one of the superstars of this challenging vintage. It should drink well for 10-15 years or longer. 2011 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Wine & Spirits: "The cool 2011 season turned out a pristine vintage of Monte Bello, made from Cabernet (88%) grown on a limestone-inflected ridge high above Silicon Valley, blended with some Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The team at Ridge let the fruit recover for two weeks following an early October storm before picking, and were more aggressive in their extraction than normal, drawing as much color and structure as possible from the delicate fruit. The aromas revolve around oak at first—anise, wood smoke, cedar bark and cinnamon—but the wood’s c ...

This beauty possesses great intensity, full-bodied power, low acidity and sweet tannin. It can be drunk now and over the next 12-15 years. 2011 Cardinale Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Vinous: "The 2011 Cardinale is another of the many exceptional wines I tasted with Chris Carpenter this year. The 2011 is beautiful and exceptionally polished, but at the same time, the flavors are beautifully defined, crystalline in their beauty and flat-out striking. In this vintage, Cardinale is all about finesse and persistence, with less volume than some previous versions, but a touch more aromatic refinement. Today the 2011 is a bit compact, but I expect it to gain texture with more time in bottle. The blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and ...

(05/2016) 93 points Vinous: "Kata’s 2011 Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard has been superb both times I have tasted it. Today the tannins are a bit firm, but that should not be an issue in another few years, once the wine has come together a little more fully. Today the 2011 M. Etain is absolutely singing.
