2013 Sbragia "Godspeed Vineyard" Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon (Elsewhere $80) (Elsewhere $80)
Top Pick!
93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As for the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Godspeed, this wine is still in barrel. This demonstrates why, as good as 2013 is, this is an exceptional, singular, and possibly once-in-a-lifetime vintage for Bordeaux varietals in Napa. An inkier, bluish/purple color with a stunning sense of blueberries, white flowers and forest floor are followed by an opulent, full-bodied wine with terrific integration of acidity, tannin and alcohol. It tops the charts at 15.3% alcohol, but otherwise has identical analytical numbers to t...

2013 Il Valentiano "Campo di Marzo" Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
91 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blackberry and oyster shell follow through to a medium to full body, silky tannins and a bright finish. Not the most complex wine but delicious. Drink now." (11/2017) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Il Valentiano 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Campo di Marzo is a densely enriched expression of Sangiovese. The bouquet opens to dark fruit, plum and dried fig. There is barbecue spice and sweet tobacco as well. Three years in oak has shaped the volume and the rich texture of the wine. The wine is a bit edgy o...

96 points James Suckling: "Lots of dried fruit, mushrooms, violets and roses. Full body, very fine tannins and a wonderful finish. Shows so much intensity and clarity. Gorgeous red. Drink or hold. " (12/2018) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Thanks to that dark garnet hue, you recognize this as Brunello just as soon as this beautiful wine pours from the bottle. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Duelecci Est showcases that sultry and sophisticated appearance that you get with Sangiovese that has been expertly aged for six long years. The ...

97 points Decanter: "A softer style than some with a round, succulently fruity style: grass, plant sap, cardamom and exotic fruits. There’s an Alsace-like or Wachau-like feel to this version. (2018 DWWA)" K&L Notes: The Bagueri is composed of 100% Ribolla Gialla (locally known as Rebula in Slovenia) from 4 different vineyard sites with vine ages between 15 and 40 years of age. This grape thrives on the marl and sandstone soils of Brda (on the western side of Slovenia, near Italy). The grapes are all hand harvested and the wine goes through fermentation ...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What's becoming the flagship Syrah for the estate, the 2013 Syrah Originals Estate comes from the original planting of the estate from 1992. It offers more texture, depth, richness and elegance over the Estate Syrah and possesses beautiful notes of creme de cassis, barbecue smoke, crushed pepper and violets. Medium to full-bodied, ripe and textured, yet always pure and balanced, it will have a decade of longevity. (JD)" (06/2015) 92 points Vinous: "The 2013 Syrah Originals is developing into a highly appealing ...

2013 Bersano "Mantico" Barbaresco
Top Pick!
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Subtle aromas of leafy underbrush, leather, truffle and red berry come together on this while the full-bodied palate delivers juicy red cherry, raspberry compote, baking spice and grilled herb. Chewy tannins provide the framework while a note of star anise closes the finish. (KO)" (10/2016) 90 points James Suckling: "This shows delicate aromas of rosemary with red licorice and dried berries. This is delicate and light-bodied with almost no tannins, good freshness and a nice, fruity finish. Really enjoyable." (11/2016)

Tenuta Sant'Antonio is a winery located in the Monti Garbi area of Verona. The winery is owned by four brothers: Armando, Paolo, Tiziano, and Massimo Castagnedi, and they produce Soave, Valpolicella and Amarone wines. This wine is a blend of Corvina 40%, Corvinone 20%, Rondinella 20%, Cabernet Sauvignon 20%
Price: $19.99

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As the 2012 is already sold out, the 2013 Roda is the one in the market, and it has been in bottle since July 2015. 2013 was not an easy vintage, and they had to harvest selectively to come to this blend of Tempranillo with 3% Graciano, which has higher acidity than normal after the usual natural fermentation in oak vats and élevage in barriques. This is a completely different vintage from 2012, as 2013 was a very cold and wet year; the Mediterranean varieties did not achieve enough ripeness, and they couldn't in...

Jancis Robinson: "A shade paler than the 2013 Garsun just tasted. Pretty, fresh nose and vibrant Nebbiolo fruit palate with a wonderful bite of grainy tannins. Real life and vigour and appetising austerity on the finish. 17/20 points. (WS)" (10/2015) Wine Spectator: "This is fresh, elegant and detailed, revealing cherry, strawberry, earth and spice notes. A bit dry on the firm finish, but food will help. Nebbiolo with Vespolina. Drink now through 2020. (BS, Web Only-2018)" K&L Notes: Grown on part of the Prevostura hill, from a typical northern Piedmo...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine opens to rich intensity and a dark purple-blackish color that is simply gorgeous to behold. The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is a superb expression that delivers so much joy on almost every measurable level. This vintage offers superb density and intensity with sharply defined aromas of black cherry, ripe blackberry, spice, leather and moist tobacco. There is a sweet note on the close that lasts for a minute or two before returning your taste buds to sophisticated and savory flavors. Thi...

Faith Armstrong Foster is the winemaker behind the wines of Onward. From the winery: The Cerise Vineyard site is a gift to Pinot Noir lovers; coastal, steep, rocky and rugged, producing extremely low yields and intense clusters. This steep hillside vineyard’s elevation ranges from 650-1000 feet. Its rocky and moderately-low-nutrient soils limit yield and overall vigor, which results in both small berries and clusters. The site is close to the ocean, which provides a morning fog layer and afternoon coastal breezes that moderate the summer heat. Cerise Vin...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cuvée Alis Estate (66% Grenache, 22% Mourvèdre and 12% Syrah) is a hefty, high-octane style (15.6% alcohol) with loads of kirsch liqueur, pepper, lavender, earth and underbrush. It is Provençal, deep, full-bodied, and a total lusty treat. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. It’s hard to believe that Dick Arrowood, who starred at Château St. Jean in the 1970s, has logged 50 years of winemaking in Northern California, primarily in Sonoma. He pretty much put Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese-styled Ri...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Vignarionda in Serralunga d'Alba is measured at about ten hectares, and eight single-vineyard wines claim this provenance. Massolino counts a quarter of that total, making this estate the biggest landowner in Vignarionda. First produced in 1982, this is the ace in Massolino's rotation, and the 2013 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is a true standout in the appellation. It is finer, more elegant and more compact than its peers, bringing a spicy personality that belies a profound and deep nature. It's still tense, a...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Winemaker and proprietor Sam Kaplan is behind this absolutely brilliant 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, which is a composite blend from three famous Napa vineyards B Weitz, Las Piedras, and Dr. Crane, the last two owned by the ubiquitous and omnipresent Andy Beckstoffer. A wine of great intensity, voluptuous, full-bodied texture, tremendous blueberry and blackberry fruit, with white flowers, charcoal embers and spice, the wine has superb texture, a multi-dimensional mouthfeel, and a finish that goes on for close to 50 s...

90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The only Zinfandel I was able to taste from this estate, the 2013 Mancini Ranch Zinfandel (there’s some Carignan, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet in the blend) sports a deeper ruby color to go with outstanding notes of blackberries, black cherries, roasted herbs, and saddle leather, with more and more spice developing with time in the glass. Coming from sandy soils and vines planted in 1922, aged 11 months in French oak, this medium-bodied, elegant, classic Zinfandel can be drunk anytime over the coming decade." (08/2018) K&L...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Much more upfront and ready to go than the Santa Lucia Highlands releases, the deep ruby colored 2013 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley offers tons of juicy berry fruits, spice, underbrush and floral characteristics in its medium to full-bodied, supple, voluptuous personality. (JD)" (10/2015) 92 points Vinous: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley comes across as a bit restrained, with lovely energy to balance the expressive Russian River fruit. Dark cherry, plum, spice, cedar and cinnamon flesh out on a perf...

96 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Picking favorites from the long and lengthening lists of single-site bottlings that so many top-tier Pinot producers now offer is never an easy task, especially when faced with the embarrassment of riches that is the 2013 Kosta Browne lot. That said, this stunning effort from the Kanzler Vineyard certainly vies for top honors by dint of its fruity depth, its lovely balance and its uncommon marriage of richness and grace. And, please do not think that its tailoring and finesse prescribes early drinking for it cannot but get ...

In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought 2 hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. Daniel and his wife Monique have continued to work on the quality of their wines ...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Full-bodied and focused, this gorgeous wine opens with enticing scents of dark-skinned berry, pipe tobacco, truffle, new leather and a whiff of camphor. Savory and structured, the palate presents succulent red cherry, raspberry compote, licorice and baking spice accompanied by firm fine-grained tannins. It's well balanced, with fresh acidity. (KO)" (02/2019) 92 points James Suckling: "This is a pretty Barbaresco with blueberries, incense, tar and rose petals. Medium to full body, lovely acidity drive and a medium-long finish...

2013 Albatreti Brunello di Montalcino (Elsewhere $56) (Elsewhere $56)
Top Pick!
90 points Vinous: "Medium red. Reticent but ultimately perfumed aromas of strawberry, raspberry, iris and herbs on the nose. Then juicy and broad in the mouth, showing a savory saline touch to the red currant and raspberry fruit flavors. Energetic and long on the fresh finish. (ID)" (04/2018)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon J. Daniel Cuvée is probably the qualitative equivalent of the 2012, but slightly more backward and coiled tight. Coming from three vineyards that Robin Lail uses in Napa Valley: one in Calistoga, one in Oakville and the other on Howell Mountain. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in about three-fourths new French oak. Just under 1,000 cases are produced. The 2013 comes across like a Napa version of the famous Château Montrose in Bordeaux’s St.-Estephe. Earthy notes intermix...

2013 Bowmore 5 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Refill Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
We already know the greatness that can be young Islay. It's always a surprise the depth of flavor that can come from a punchy 5 or 6 year Caol Ila, Staoisha or Octomore. But we have never been offered such a youthful example of this famous old distillery. For me, Bowmore is truly one of the greats. Hand malting more than 25% of the production and responsible for some of true legends. The modern distillery bottlings tend to keep things VERY safe. But the Bowmore we come across on the independent market these days is almost always exceptional. I'm convince...

96 points James Suckling: "Very intense aromas of ripe dark fruit with plums and cherries, intermingled with aged meat, warm stones and sweet, dried-wood nuances. The concentrated palate has a suave and plush core with tannins building in impressive layers to hold a long, flavorful finish. " (06/2019) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Rose, wild berry, camphor and a whiff of exotic spice float out of the glass along with a hint of new leather. Radiant and loaded with finesse, the taut, elegantly structured palate delivers juicy red cherry, strawberry compote...

What specifically makes Enrique's single-site expression so incredible? Let's start with the aromatics. From the minute you pop the cork and begin nosing the bottle, sweet smells of incense, roasted agave and tropical fruit inundate the senses. Absent entirely are the aromas of pepper, savory spice or vegetal notes that usually accompany the fruitier tones. It's as hedonistic as unadulterated tequila can smell, in my experience; but the spirit is not without spice on the whole. The first sip builds on those enticing aromas, but a huge dollop of baking sp...

Ladera selects from blocks of varying clonal selection, soil type and aspect in their own estate vineyards to endow their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Vineyards were selectively harvested over a long period at the end of the perfect 2013 growing season. The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak (55% new) and blended with 4% Malbec, 2% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Tasting notes from the winery: "The 2013 Ladera Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon displays intense aromas of black cherry, vanilla and red licorice with savory notes of olive and dried herbs....

92 points James Suckling: "Big juicy red with dried fruit and chocolate character. Full body, velvety tannins and lots of flavor. Full-throttle but fun and stylish. Drink now or hold." (05/2016) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Perfumed, aromatic plum, currant and black cherry notes are firm and supple, with acidity and tannins providing traction and length. Best from 2018 through 2028. (JL, Web Only-2017)"

2013 Domìni Veneti "Vigneti di Jago" Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Top Pick!
97 points Decanter: "Take one look at this dense, black-red wine as it sits in the glass, sniff its dark, alluring, exotic treasure-cave of aromas, taste its explosive carnival of flavours and you might be forgiven for thinking that it's five years younger than it really is. This is a sensational Amarone, full of smouldering fires at dusk, of confit fruits, of African incense spices and of dried citrus peels and zests, mouth-filling and dazzling -- and with years left on its clock. *Platinum - Best in Show* (DWWA)" (05/2019) K&L Notes: 70% Corvina, 15...

95 points Vinous: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is striking. Powerful and dense in the glass, with utterly mesmerizing balance, the 2013 hits all the right spots. Graphite, smoke, grilled herbs, black cherries and incense form a tapestry of aromas and flavors that simply dazzles. The 2013 needs time in bottle for the tannins to soften, but it is a real head-turner. The combination of intense tannin and opulent fruit is classic 2013. (AG) 95+" (11/2015) 92 points James Suckling: "A silky and tight red with tile, berry and dusty aromas and flavors. Medium...

Azienda Agricola Rivetto is a fourth generation winemaking family from the eastern hills of Serralunga d’Alba. They began producing wine in 1902 and started making their production at their Sinio farmhouse in 1938. Today the organically farmed vineyard holdings include 37 acres in Sinio and Serralunga. The original farmhouse remains the winemaking facility. The Rivetto wine production includes about 18 wines, from Dolcetto to Barbera, Nebbiolo to Barolo, Moscato d’Asti to Barolo Chinato, and more.

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Etna Rosso Serra della Contessa is a unique wine from a unique vineyard site located 500 meters above sea level on the southern Viagrande flank of the volcano. It does not fit squarely into the Etna Rosso mold. It flaunts those differences with pride. This wine is based on Nerello Mascalese, with a smaller part Nerello Cappuccio. There is a pronounced balsam element with some spice and dark herb that add an almost savory or meaty quality that you don't get from wines made on the north side of the volcano...

98 points Decanter: "Supremely elegant and poised, with a combed-back sleekness and grace. Crushed raspberry is at the centre of a deeper and darker palate of sweet black cherry, juniper berries and wild mint. Great precision and an underlying structure supports and gives amplitude to a glossy, fine finish like polished mahogany. (RL)" 97 points James Suckling: "The perfumes are fabulous here with strawberry, walnut and porcini mushrooms. Mountain herbs. Full body, tight and integrated tannins and a long finish. Refined and beautiful. Hard not to drink ...

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Chardonnay Belle Côte, which I had tentatively rated 95 to 97, has turned out to be flirting with perfection. Production was nearly 1,000 cases less than the 2014! Displaying an almost stony liqueur of rocks, lemon butter, and white peach, this is a full-bodied, intense wine with loads of tangerine oil, pineapple jam and that wet stone minerality that runs through it. This extremely massive, rich, super-concentrated wine blew me away in my tasting at the winery. (RP)" (12/2015) 94 points James Suckling...

Despite generations of history as a vineyard, Corte Rugolin has started its modern chapter as a winery with sister-brother team Federico and Elena Coati. Winery note: "Obtained from the selection of the best native grapes left to dry for three months, as in the ancient tradition of Valpolicella. It has a garnet red color, a full, dry and velvety taste and intense aromas of black cherry under spirits, berries and spices. Uncork a few hours before serving."
Price: $39.99

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Concentrated, bright and focused fruit flavors feel shaped by a moderate oak influence in this full-bodied and nicely structured wine. A good amount of tannin wraps the raspberry and blackberry flavors in a firm texture. (JG)" (12/2016) Wine Spectator: "Ripe and loaded with pepper, plus appealing notes of smoky plum, herb and anise. (TF, Web Only-2016)"

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "From a certified-organic site in Rutherford and 100% varietal, this wine has benefitted from time in the bottle, dazzling in soft silky red fruit and jolts of nutmeg and dust. Beautifully layered, structured and brightly vibrant, it has impressive coaxings of cigar, cedar and a rich hint of wild vanilla. (VB)" (06/2019) 94 points James Suckling: "Some darker and more powerful style to this single vineyard cab that delivers abundant blackcurrant and blueberry aromas and flavors. The tannins are long and fine, really even and ...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a large vineyard (Gap's Crown is roughly 130 acres), the 2013 Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard comes from a smaller 37-acre parcel owned by Kosta Browne, which lies at an elevation of 1,000 feet above sea level. Harvest all towards the end of September and aged 16 months in 51% new French oak, it has a slightly darker slant in its wild strawberry, black raspberry, spice and sappy flower stem-like aromas and flavors. Elegant, seamless and downright pretty, it grows on you with time in the glass and is a gorgeo...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall from Napa is another blockbuster, exhibiting an opaque bluish purple color, notes of charcoal, graphite, blackberry, chocolate and exotic spices, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long, long finish. Like most 2013s, it is just hinting at its ultimate potential, but this wine is loaded and exciting. Forget it for another 4-5 years and drink it over the following three decades. (RP)" (12/2016) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is made to highlight the vintage and best vin...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Checking in as a blend of 46% Grenache, 34% Mourvèdre and 20% Counoise that spent 24 months in barrel, the 2013 Oublie 24 offers an open, sexy style in its mulled red fruits, dried flowers, spice and dried soil aromas and flavors. Sporting a semi translucent ruby color, this full-bodied beauty has no hard edges, a beautiful core of sweet fruit, and an endearing hard to resist personality that will drink well for 5-7 years. (JD)" (08/2016)

93 points Wine Spectator: "Delivers a rich, focused, dense core of blackberry, black licorice, cedar and lavender, gaining depth, length and persistence on a long, full, layered finish. Drink now through 2023." (04/2015) 89-91 points Vinous: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Castro Vineyard is one of the ripest and juiciest of these Pinots, but it is also one of the best balanced. Dark red cherries, plums, spices, menthol and licorice flesh out in a supple, racy Pinot that emphasizes ripeness and juiciness. The 2013 was harvested on October 10, exceedingly late for...

95 points James Suckling: "Very attractive and intense aromas of ripe black cherries and plums, leading to a palate that has a quite firm tannin core and finishes with a convincing serving of rich, ripe darker plums and berries. Drink or hold." (01/2019) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Fluid and fruity, supported by a matrix of dense tannins, this features a fine texture and structure, offsetting the saturated flavors of cherry, red berry, leather, iron and tar. Stays focused while cruising to a lingering finish. Really youthful, intense and long. (BS)" (06...

The 2013 is pale gold in color with aromas of stone fruit and pineapple. On the palate the wine has substance and is supported by a pleasant acidity. The flavors reflect fresh pear and white peach along with fuji apple. The finish is long and substantial. After hand sorting and a gentle whole cluster press, the wine was allowed to cold settle overnight before fermentation commenced in barrel. (20% new French, 80% neutral French.) The wine remained in barrel, sur-lie until bottling. Total elevage was 12 months.
Price: $19.99

97 points Vinous: "The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo possesses off-the-charts richness and textural intensity. Beams of tannin give the wine its shape, but they are nearly buried by the sheer depth of the fruit. Readers should expect a dark, virile Vigna del Sorbo that is likely to develop at a glacial pace. The 2013 was reticent last year and is even more so this year. (AG) 97+ " (01/2018) 96 points James Suckling: "A succulent Chianti Classico showing dried-fruit and cedar character. Full, chewy and very long with a juicy finis...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 G. B. Crane Cabernet Sauvignon Composition is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah and 2% Merlot. This is a big boy at 15.3% natural alcohol. Nevertheless, there’s no heat to it. It is a seamless classic from Napa, with copious quantities of blackberry and blackcurrant, some Asian spice and a full-bodied, nearly massive entry on the palate, with oodles of fruit, glycerin and extract. Tannins are present, but soft and well-integrated. This is a big, juicy, compelling effort from Dave Phinne...
