2016 Marietta "Game Trail" Estate Yorkville Highlands Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Vinous: "Marietta's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Game Trail is powerful, dark and quite savory. Smoke, tobacco, gravel, menthol, cedar and licorice all run through this bold, pungent mountain Cabernet. There is quite a bit of aromatic intensity to play off the blackberry fruit in this strapping young wine. Give it a few years in bottle for the tannins to soften." (05/2019) K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "This south-facing vineyard overlooks the Yorkville Highlands at 1400 feet elevation on a ridge heading out towards the ocean. This Cabernet Sauvig ...

2009 Black Kite Cellars "Kite's Rest" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Right out of the bottle, it's a bit clumsy, but airing quickly lets it mellow, so give it some time in a decanter. Delicious in cherry, cola, bacon, cinnamon toast and other classic cool-climate Pinot flavors, it shows a racy acidity that makes it vibrant." (10/2012) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A savory, moderately ripe style, this concentrated red shows pebble, dried berry, currant and sage flavors. Full-bodied, gaining depth and dimension and ending with a pretty touch of black licorice. (JL)" (10/2011)

2017 Drew "Mid-Elevation" Mendocino Ridge Pinot Noir

94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Pinot Noir Mid-Elevation is laced with bright, red/purplish berry fruit and sweet floral notes. It offers a striking combination of fruit richness and perfume, and silky tannins add to its considerable charms. (AG)" (05/2019) K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "This deep mineral driven Pinot Noir hails from several midelevation vineyard sites, those in the 1200-1400 ft range within the Mendocino Ridge coastal viticultural growing area. 2014 Rhys "Bearwallow Vineyard" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard is a solid step up over the Anderson Valley release and has more tension, elegance and precision. Offering up classic notes of strawberries, spice, black cherries and a touch of sous bois, it has medium to full-bodied richness, terrific purity of fruit and integrated acidity. Give bottles a year or two and drink through 2026. While the majority of 2014s are charming and supple, that’s certainly not the case with these latest releases from Kevin Harvey. I found all of his 20 ...

2016 Artezin "Old Vine" Mendocino County Zinfandel (Elsewhere $14)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Saturated with dark, almost jammy fruit flavors, this is an extremely flavorful and nicely dry wine that also has great structure. An intensely dark color leads to blackberry and boysenberry aromas, distinctive blackberry and black-pepper flavors and a rich mouthfeel that is well-laced by fine-grained tannins. *Editors' Choice* (JG)" (03/2018)

2014 Aldrich Browne "Perli Vineyard" Mendocino Ridge Syrah

Winemaker's notes: "Lots of spice and all things nice! Dark chocolate and coffee notes. Perhaps with a hint of bay leaf and clove. These wines have the tendency to age really well. Enjoyed on its own or with a hearty savory dish...lamb casserole? Perli Vineyard sits at an elevation of 1,800 feet above the coastal fog line. The vines are dry-farmed and grow in very rocky soils and on steep slopes. The fruit is then vinified at Peay Vineyards in Cloverdale, CA. We ferment in open top tanks perfect for Syrah. It’s medium-bodied, has bright acidity, and terrific complexity. It too will keep for 5-7 years." 2016 Copain "Tous Ensemble" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Jeb Dunnuck: "Brought up all in old wood and completely destemmed, the 2016 Pinot Noir Tous Ensemble reminds me a quality Côte de Beaune with its pretty red fruits, flowers, and earth. It has lively acidity, excellent purity of fruit, light tannin, and a clean, precise style on the palate." (06/2018) Vinous: "The 2016 Pinot Noir Tous Ensemble is an attractive, entry-level Pinot with good aromatic nuance and lovely red berry fruit. 2017 Idle Chatter Mendocino Red

From the producer: "70% SYRAH, 25% PETITE SIRAH, 5% VIOGNIER. Vineyards are all located in Mendocino County - a mix of ancient alluvial soils and volcanic materials at elevations ranging from 700- 1200 feet. Grapes were harvested over a period of a month from mid-September to mid-October for optimal ripeness according to variety and elevation. The grapes were then destemmed into tank for daily pumpovers and an 18 day maceration period. 2015 Porter Creek "Old Vine" Mendocino County Carignane

92 points John Gilman: "Alex Davis makes excellent Carignane and his 2015 Old Vine bottling is no exception, with the wine coming in at a very civilized 13.3 percent octane and offering up a refined bouquet of black cherries, sweet dark berries, hung game, a hint of pepper, dark soil tones, a touch of tree bark and a topnote of vinesmoke. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and more robust in personality than the very sophisticated nose suggests. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the Halcón has plenty of both depth and power. 2016 Maryetta Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

From the winery: "Maryetta Wines is a boutique winery specialising in organic wines from Mendocino County. We make complex, balanced wines that are made in the vineyards. 2009 Morning Dew Ranch "Jan's Cuvee" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

This highly sought-after wine has been described as the lovely "swan song" of famed vintner Burt Williams. After selling Williams-Selyem Winery, Williams retired to the cool reaches of Anderson Valley, and planted a vineyard to various Pinot clones and selections: Rochioli, DRC suitcase, 23 (Mariafeld), 115, 777, and 828. While this is a one-time release, Williams-Selyem and a few other select Pinot producers continue to make wines from Morning Dew Ranch fruit. Energizing acidity and firm tannins give it great structure and help carry the complex flavors through a lingering finish. *Editors' Choice* (JG)" (09/2017) K&L Notes: Winemaker's notes: "Our second vintage from the Helluva Vineyard in the sleepy little town of Boonville. 2018 Two Shepherds "Wiley - Trimble Ranch" Mendocino Carbonic Carignan

From the winery: "Inspired by our kitten, Wiley, a carbonic soul. A true carbonic carignan, sealed in tank for 2.5 weeks, then pressed back to stainless to finish fermenting and aged 4 months. Intense fresh berry aromatics leap out of the glass, both complex & fun flavors, that belie its youthfulness. 2008 Morning Dew Ranch Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is known as one of wine's most fickle grapes. It takes a deft hand and the right growing conditions to get it right. In the early days of California winemaking, few managed to produce Pinot Noirs of note, but then in 1981 Burt Williams started making Pinot Noir out of his Forestville garage. That winery became Williams-Selyem, and the rest is California winemaking history.
