2015 Paraiso Estate Monterey County Pinot Noir

91 points Vinous: "Deep vivid red. Fresh cherry, black raspberry, candied rose and a touch of musky underbrush on the nose, joined by slowly emerging woodsmoke and vanilla accents. Silky, seamless and energetic in the mouth, offering bitter cherry, red berry and mocha flavors that deepen and become sweeter on the back half. Fine-grained tannins give shape to a very long, smoke-tinged finish that strongly echoes the red fruit and floral notes. (JR)" (11/2017) K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "Parasio Vneyard's Estate Monterey Pinot Noir is an exceptional w ...

Top Pick!
2017 Kalinda Lime Kiln Valley Pinot Noir

The K&L Kalinda wines are consistently among the best values in our store. We work closely with top producers to bring you first-rate wine at reasonable prices. We can't reveal our sources, but we can say that this is a steal. Certainly not a household name, Lime Kiln Valley is situated in San Benito County and was granted AVA status in 1982 (the same year as nearby Chalone), and before Calera's Mt. Harlan AVA (1990) which Lime Kiln Valley borders. These unorthodox Pinot Noir terroirs are understood to be successful because of their limestone subsoils.

2017 Joyce "Submarine Canyon" Monterey County Pinot Noir

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a great entry-level wine from Russell Joyce, starting with aromas of candied Bing cherry, earthy forest floor and umami-laced shiitake mushrooms. The palate is bright and snappy with raspberry, marjoram, bay leaf and pine needle flavors, framed by taut tannins and brilliant acidity. (MK)" (07/2019) K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "The maritime influences of the Monterey Submarine Canyon, measuring a full one mile in depth from top to bottom, is the inspiration for this Pinot Noir. The grapes were mostly de-stemmed with ...

2016 Big Basin "Coastview Vineyard" Gabilan Mountains Monterey Pinot Noir

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Coastview Vineyard Pinot Noir is one of the more delicate wines, with pretty red fruits, smoked earth, spring flowers, and spice aromas and flavors. Like all of Bradley's wines, it has juicy acidity and terrific purity, is medium-bodied, elegant and lively. It also has a vibrant, poised style that's going to age beautifully. It's one of my favorites in the lineup but needs 3-4 years of bottle age. This saw 88% whole clusters and spent 18 months in 42% new French oak." (02/2019) 93 points Vinous: "A classy, polished wine ...

2016 I. Brand & Family "Bayly Vineyard" Paicines Cabernet Franc

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ian Brand's knack for finding unsung vineyards is brilliant, and this bottling shows why. It's very light in the glass and fresh on the nose, with aromas of smashed cranberry, raspberry, toast and peppercorns. It's juicy on the palate, with lively cherry and fennel-frond flavors. Put a chill on it and drink it down. (MK)" (07/2018) K&L Notes: After ten years of studying the history, geography, climate and geology of the Monterey Bay area through their P’tit Paysan and La Marea labels, Ian and Heather Brand started I. 2017 Sean Minor "Four Bears" Central Coast Pinot Noir

Sean Minor founded Four Bears, or "4B," in 2005 as a distinct focus on competitively priced varietal wines. Winery notes: "displays aromas of white peach, pears and tropical nuances with subtle notes of butter. On the entry, pear, pineapple and green apple flavors are framed by nice acidity which integrates well with the medium body mouth feel. Those same fruit flavors evolve into a hint of minerality that adds complexity to the lengthy finish."

2015 Moobuzz Monterey Pinot Noir

Taking its name from making wine in the land of "milk and honey" (mooing cows and buzzing bees) Moobuzz produces a range of wines from California's Central Coast and Paso Robles AVA. Winery tasting note: "Gorgeous aromas of earthy mushrooms and bright red fruit are highlighted by notes of fresh violet and ripe plum. The palate expands to include a savory abundance of red currant, dark cherry, rich mocha and wild strawberry on a long, velvety finish."

2014 Le P'tit Paysan Monterey County Petite Sirah

Wine Enthusiast: "Dried herbs, elderberries, peppercorns and a strong streak of gamy meat show on the nose of this bottling, which is less dense and more nuanced in style than many other Petite Sirahs. The gamy element extends to the palate, giving complexity to the black fruits and sticky tannins. (MK)" (06/2018)

2016 Birichino "Boer Vineyard" Chalone Pinot Noir

Winemaker's Notes: Boer amply demonstrates why the Chalone AVA is so utterly distinctive. Nearly 2000’ up in the Gabilan Range by Pinnacles National Park, it boasts a vanishingly rare amalgam of decomposing granite [from the eruption 26 million years ago of the now-extinct Neenach volcano] and soft, chalky limestone [remnant of an ancient seabed uplifted by tectonic subduction] with extreme daily temperature swings. The unusual geology juxtaposes power and tannin against elegance and detail, while the wide 50 degree diurnal shift plugs 220 volts of clean ...

2016 Caraccioli Estate "Escolle Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "There’s a tremendous herbal array on the nose of this superb wine, as bay leaf and peppercorn lead into more rugged aromas of singed fur, game and mulberry jam. That animalistic character extends to the palate, where it meets with snappy black raspberry, roasted cocoa and cappuccino flavors, all leveled by piney herbs. *Editors’ Choice* (MK)" (07/2019) K&L Notes: Founded in 2006 Caraccioli Cellars aims to deliver the highest quality wines through top-tier grapes from the Santa Lucia Highlands. 2016 I. Brand & Family "Brosseau Vineyard" Chalone Grenache

Matt Kettmann on I. Brand: "Ian Brand is quite possibly the most interesting vintner in Monterey County today. The Connecticut-raised, former Bonny Doon cellar rat and one-time assistant at Big Basin is sourcing from so many distinct, often old-vine sites, and spearheading so many different consulting projects. Though quite varied in styles and grapes, the wines are all very energetic, distinctive and extremely fairly priced. Brand and his wife, Heather, who got him into wine, produce three brands: Le P’tit Paysan, a $19 to $22 line that includes fresh ...

2017 Carlisle Sonoma County Zinfandel

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "While it was a difficult vintage for Zinfandel due to the heat, you wouldn’t know that by tasting these Zinfandels from Carlisle. The 2017 Zinfandel Sonoma County offers a beautiful sense of elegance and purity as well as pretty cherry fruits, violets, flowers, and spice. It’s not a heavyweight yet shines for its seamless texture, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It’s a steal at the price." (06/2019) 90-93 points Vinous: "The 2017 Zinfandel (Sonoma County) is pliant and super-expressive, not to mention incredibly deliciou ...

2015 Chalone Vineyard "Estate Grown" Chalone Pinot Noir

Winemaker's Notes: "Our 2015 Estate Pinot Noir is composed of 100% estate vineyard fruit. The inviting aromas of ripe cherry, blueberry and baking spices are well defined. The dynamic palate shows a beautiful balance of bright raspberry and plum complemented by notes of root beer and nutmeg. A wet stone minerality neatly ties up all these elements on the lingering finish. This wine is a perfect match with spice-rubbed beef tenderloin or mushroom risotto. The thin, limestone-rich soils of Chalone Vineyard produce low yields of grapes bursting with rich, i ...

2002 Chalone Estate Pinot Noir

91 points 2 Puffs and a GOOD VALUE designation from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "Concentrated black-cherry fruit serves as the centerpiece of this fairly deep wine and is given a marked lift in richness by plentiful oak. Particularly praiseworthy for its keen balance and its supple texture, this one is sports a touch of velvet and plenty of flesh. There is nothing about it that will dissuade early drinking, but it comes with the likely promise to age well for several years. Its price adds to its two-star attractions." Rustic red-cherry and hearty nutmeg aromas lead into a palate full of snappy yet dark pomegranate and herbs. *Editor's Choice* (MK)" (05/2019) K&L Notes: Winemaker's notes: "Ruby red and medium bodied. 2017 Seabold Cellars "Brosseau Vineyard" Chalone Pinot Noir

Seabold Cellars is the creation of Master Sommelier Chris Miller. Chris worked harvests for 15+ years up-and-down the coast while running the wine programs for some of the country's most elite restaurants. He finally dove full-time into making wine, settling into the Monterey Bay area. The Chalone region is a land out of time, part of the Pinnacles National Park and displaying a rustic beauty that remains almost untouched by the hand of man. Admiring the work of Dick Graff at Chalone Winery, Jon and Jan founded the Brosseau Vineyard in 1978. They didn’ ...

Fleshy and seamless on the palate offering fresh raspberry and cherry flavors that become sweeter with air. A minerally flourish adds lift and cut to the floral-dominated finish which lingers with very good tenacity. " (12/2018) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This blend of 52% Syrah, 44% Grenache and 4% Tempranillo is always one of the best price point bets in the region. 2015 Wente "Riva Ranch Vineyard" Arroyo Seco Pinot Noir

Winemaker notes from Karl Wente: "For five generations, our family has been dedicated to the art of winemaking and to the philosophy that the quality of a wine originates in the vineyards. Our Riva Ranch Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is sourced exclusively from our family’s vineyard in Arroyo Seco, Monterey. Arroyo Seco is the ideal region to grow this Burgundian varietal because of the long, cool growing season, which allows the grapes to fully ripen and develop deep fruit flavors. The gravelly-loam soils found here, rich with shale and limestone deposits, ...

2016 Kosta Browne "Rosella's Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "From the Santa Cruz Mountains south of Monterey, the 2016 Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard is one of the more exotic, perfumed wines in the lineup, which is the hallmark of this vineyard. Cherry blossoms, wild strawberries, orange peel, and violet notes give way to a floral, elegant, nuanced 2016 that has good acidity as well as texture. It’s going to be even better this time next year and keep for 7-8 years. 93+" (06/2018) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Focused and juicy, featuring effusive cherry, raspberry and red plum flavors, back ...
