2015 Casa Américo Dao

90 points Wine Spectator: "A rich red, with concentrated raspberry, red plum and red currant flavors, supported by crisp acidity. Sings on the finish, showing notes of crushed savory herb and forest floor. (KM)" (12/2016) K&L Notes: Based on a 100-hectare, granite site in what has to be one of the world's most underrated wine regions for stylish, food friendly wines, Portugal's Dao region, Casa Americo is producing top quality budget friendly wines. This red is a blend of Touriga Naçional, Jaen, and Aragones, with lightly smoky, bright plum and mixed r ...

2014 Casa Américo Dao

Wine & Spirits: "A soulful and satisfying blend of touriga nacional and alfrocheiro grown on a granite hillside just west of the Serra da Estrella, this combines earthy cherry flavors with limey acidity and mountain spice. It’s firm and gentle, a rosé for clams cooked with sausage, the juices mopped up with crusty bread." (08/2018) Wine Enthusiast: "This ripe wine, with its rich tannins and smooth texture, is delicious. Balanced and soft, it's a ripe blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Jaen. With blackberry and black-currant flavors, it is fruit ...

2016 Ramos Pinto "Duas Quintas" Douro

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Duas Quintas Tinto is mostly a 45/35 blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, with the last 20% comprised of other typical grapes. It was partly aged in well-used French oak (20%) and tonels (30%) for 13 months, the rest in stainless steel. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. When seen a couple of weeks after bottling in Portugal, this was quite a buy. It's now in the USA. Has it held serve? Mostly, yes. You sure can't go wrong at the price. It shows some structure for the level, finishing with grip. The tannins ar ...

2014 Regateiro Bairrada

A typical Bairrada blend of Baga and Touriga Nacional, this is a large scaled, fuller bodied red, with intense dark and purple-skinned fruits, and some barrel notes that are well integrated into the wine. Rich, yet structured, this is a delicious entry into the Atlantic-influenced, clay and limestone terroir of Bairrada.

2015 Quinta de Chocapalha Castelao Vinho Regional de Lisboa

Produced from Castelao grapes on the Quinta's property, this wine is juicy, peppery and red fruited, described by winemaker Sandra Tavares as similar to a Beaujolais Villages or perhaps a Mencía based wine on the Spanish side of the Iberian peninsula. A delicious, lighter mid-weight red for charcuterie or grilled chicken.

2014 Wine & Soul "Manoella" Douro

(Panel Review)" (10/2017) Jancis Robinson: "Deep cherry red. Fragrant and delicate. Lively, dry and beautifully subtle. Dry, elegant finish. 16/20 points. 16/20 points. 2016 Quinta Vale do Meao "Meandro" Douro

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Meandro do Vale Meão is a blend of 30% Touriga Franca, 40% Touriga Nacional, 20% Tinta Roriz and various others, all aged for 14 months in used French oak. It comes in at 14% alcohol. Take a bottling that always performs well for a modest price, add a vintage that produced a lot of ripe fruit and you might get one of the finest Meandros ever made. Not quite bottled when seen (but the final blend), this shows exceptional concentration for the level, vivid fruit and surprising freshness. The tannins are ...

2013 Quinta do Popa Douro

A blend of mainly Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz (tempranillo), Quinta do Popa's latest Douro release is a fine reflection of a cooler vintage, a wine that is relatively high toned and bright compared to the norm of richer, more darkly fruited wines in this warm region. That said, the winery typically does produce a more elegant style, as indicated by their large portion of Touriga Franca (as opposed to Touriga Nacional) grapes. A delicious, stylish Douro for drinking now.

2015 Alento Tinto Alentejo

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Alento is an unoaked blend of 40% Aragonez, 40% Trincadeira and 10% each of Alicante Bouschet and Touriga Nacional. A classic summer red, as I like to call such wines these days, this is on track to be the best regular Alento that Luis has produced. This is a wine with a ceiling, to be sure--it is meant to be drunk young and fresh, not cellared for a decade. But in that refreshing "summer red" style that I love, this is about as good as it gets. Pure, clean and vibrant, this has vivid and lifted fruit with some te ...

2011 Quinta das Bageiras "Garrafeira" Bairrada

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Quinta das Bágeiras Garrafeira is a Baga aged in used French oak for 20 months. It comes in at 14% alcohol. Sourced from 90+-year-old vines, this was pretty brilliant when last seen. This quality for $40 makes it a pretty nice deal. It is why smart consumers always look at regions that are not quite as famous. This shows fine concentration, controlled tannins and some licorice on the finish, probably an oak artifact. There are hints of mint and spice. This has changed a lot in flavor profile since I last ...

That means the tannins and structure of this blend of Aragonez, Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional and Syrah are full, generous and easy-going. Drink now. (RV)" (12/2018) Wine Spectator: "Cherry and raspberry notes show a tangy undertone in this light- to medium-bodied red, with zesty herb, earth and white pepper details on the moderately tannic finish. 2016 Quinta do Crasto "Flor de Crasto" Douro

This is the producer's tank-aged, entry level offering, and a blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional. In April 2014, Mark Squires, writing in Wine Advocate, said of the new label: "When we last left off – in Issue 211 – discussing new Portuguese releases and how enticing many fresh, un-oaked, entry-level reds were at great prices, this was not yet here. Add it to the group, because as time goes on it is performing that function well. (Include Crasto’s regular Tinto, too, which sees only nominal oak.) It has a Beaujolais-like feel to i ...

It comes in with 100 grams of residual sugar. A step up (or two) on the 2016, this shows fine depth, more focus, vivid fruit and serious power. 2007 Quinta de Vale de Pios "As Tourigas" Douro

"As tourigas" means "the Tourigas" in Portuguese, and this is a 50-50 blend of the most prominent tourigas: touriga nacional and touriga franca. Originally given 8 years on the bottle, the As Tourigas was made with the idea of showing wine drinkers how well Douro red wines age. We think you will agree that this is indeed a wonderfully aged bottle of Douro red at over a decade old, featuring a combination of intense berry fruits, baking spices melding nicely with a developing savoriness, and supple quality to the tannins.

About half the barrels were aged for 14 months, the other half for 18 months, in well-used French barriques (8+ years old). It comes in at 13% alcohol. In many respects, this is merely a fruity little red, but the concentration and structure for the level distinguish it to some extent. Then, it adds typical freshness, making it lively. Winemaker's notes: "A blend of Touriga National, Trincadeira and Touriga Franca. The glass opens with a triple layered aroma of savory peppercorn and cocoa, jasmine flowers, and black fruit. Although this qualified as a Reserve, it is not really marketed as such. Given the late release, this is pretty much ready to roll right now. Taylor Fladgate Reserve Tawny Port (1L, Ships as 3L Due to Bottle Size/Shape)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Reserve Tawny Port is a blend of multiple grapes, some in a field blend, with an average age of eight years in barrel. It comes in at 113 grams of residual sugar. This is something different—Taylor's normally does not make a Reserve Tawny. Then, it also was bottled in an historical bottle (the Mateus Rosé bottle in shape is close). The also little-known Ramisco varietal is and was the resident grape for the region's winemakers. Gomes da Silva & Filhos is undoubtedly the most famous and most widely available producer from this region, with vintages from the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s routinely wowing collectors and geeks across the online wine community (just check out the threads on Cellar Tracker and Wine Berserkers to get a sense of what these wines are capable of).
