2018 Franck Millet Sancerre Blanc

90 points Decanter: " Leaf, stone fruit and mint bouquet and palate. Restrained style which may well develop further in bottle. Long, mineral-laden finish. (2019 DWWA)" (05/2019) K&L Notes: The Millet Sancerre has been a favorite here at K&L for a long time. Grown in limestone-clay soil, the wine reflects the terroir wonderfully. The flavors are bright with lime, mineral, passion fruit, and that wonderful chalkiness one wants from a Sancerre. This wine over delivers and pairs beautifully with oily seafood dishes and of course, your favorite cheeses.

2018 Les Roches Sauvignon Touraine

This Sauvignon Blanc from Touraine displays an intense, classic nose of cut grass, pepper and, believe it or not, pineapples and lemons, with plenty of minerality. Very crisp and refreshing, like a cross between a classic Touraine and a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, at an astonishingly low price! Perfect with seafood. Grown in an area located between the Loire River and the Cher River and sandwiched between the towns of Tours and Blois, the wine shows the classic characteristics of the rich clay soils that are fortified with flint and limestone. Very brig ...

2017 Franck Millet "Insolite" Sancerre

One of K&L's very finest buys from France. This is a reserve cuvée, made from Millet's chalkiest limestone soils. There is a long maceration at very low temperatures to extract as much flavor and character as possible. The resulting wine is intensely charged with stone fruit and minerality, with bright citrus notes. The wines of this family domaine have been a staple here at K&L since the 1994 vintage when Franck and Betty Millet drove a long way (to Beaune!) on Easter Sunday to meet Clyde and crew to present the wines. We love these wines for their fres ...

2017 Domaine du Petit Clocher Anjou Blanc

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Superripe grapes are the secret behind this rich wine. Although it is dry, this floral wine offers a touch of honey that balances the crisp apple flavors and opulent texture. Still young, this intense wine deserves to age. Drink from 2020. (RV)" (09/2018) K&L Notes: Established over 50 years ago, the 4th generation of the Denis family now runs this operation. Julien is the winemaker, Stephane in charge of the viticulture and Vincent oversees the administration and sales. Over the last decades the property has grown from 5 ...

2018 Domaine des Côtes Blanches Sancerre

Domaine Côtes Blanches was established in the 1930s by Bernard and Pierre Millet. In 1980, it was time for the second generation to take the reins, so François and Monique expanded the estate to 21 hectares of vines (15 Sauvignon, 6 Pinot Noir). After returning from his studies in Beaune five years ago, Nicolas (son of François and Monique) joined the family-run estate and brought a new energized passion. The family is dedicated to the land and the environment by which they are surrounded. All farming is done organically, harvest dates are dictated by na ...

Fresh citrus flavors and acidity are comfortably balanced by the taut steely edge. 2018 Eric Cottat Sancerre

We were first introduced to the wines of Eric Cottat a few years back. He was brought to our attention by one of our long-time friends and winemakers in Sancerre, and we brought in a small amount, as that was all we were allowed to take at the time. Eric only produces a small amount of wines each vintage for family, friends, and close customers, and then sells the rest of his fruit off to other eager producers in the region. This Sancerre blanc is always invigorating and fresh, with lemony citrus aromas and flavors accented by delicate white flowers. The ...

2017 Domaine la Clef du Récit Sancerre

Winemaker Anthony Girard grew up in his family's Sancerre winery, but spent a number of years learning about wine production all over the world before returning home to continue working with Sauvignon Blanc. While continuing to help with the namesake Girard label, Anthony wanted to create his own project on the side and eventually purchased a small plot of pristine real estate near the town of Récy with primo Sancerre limestone soils. After acquiring the vines he was given a large key as a symbolic gesture of new ownership, or a "clef du récit," which be ...

Domaine Cherrier was founded in 1930, and since then four generations of the family have run the estate. The estate has limestone and calcareous clay soils that wonderfully influence the character of the grapes grown there. The Sancerre is consistently delicious, with citrus, chalky mineral and light floral notes. Its dry finish complements seafood and cheese beautifully. The family-owned domaine dates back to 1804, located in a tiny Loire village named St-Julien-de Chédon. Since 2009, Laurent Benoist has been at the helm, focusing his efforts on sustainable farming and pure, terroir-driven wines. As a region, Touraine has the flexibility to plant a wide range of varieties, so it’s different from the more formal areas such as Vouvray, which only allows Chenin Blanc, or Sancerre, which only allows Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. In Touraine, they can grow Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, P ...

A partnership between Rodolphe and Ludivine Marteau, the fourth generation to make wine from their family's estate. Of their 29 acres, 20 are devoted to Sauvignon Blanc. With vines averaging 20 years and very detail-oriented farming, they harvest the best quality fruit possible. Tasting notes from the importer: "The nose offers an intense 'fruit basket' dominated by citrus scents with a note of blackcurrant bud. In the mouth, all is suppleness and elegance. His 2017 is tight and reduced at first, the flinty notes slowly yielding tart-apple flavors with a limestone-dust mineral cool. Stay with it over the course of several days and that fruit extends its savor, the scents evoking an abandoned apple orchard in the woods.
