2018 Veronique Anne Perret Vin de Savoie Apremont

Founded in 1927 in the village of Jongieux, the Perret family has worked with many of the same seasoned growers for four generations. The wine is 100% Jacquere, a rather productive grape, that benefits from being planted on the depleted soils of the region which limit its growth. The wine is the pure essence of the region, with its crystaline focus and vibrant nose of yellow apples, lemongrass and crushed limestone.

2011 Domaine Dugois Vin Jaune Arbois (620ml)

In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought two hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. A new addition to the K&L inventory and to the Jura AOC as a whole, Patrick Ligeron's Domaine des Carlines is quickly making an impression not only on Jura geeks, but also on fans of terroir in general. The domaine vineyard holdings lie partly within the Château-Chalone sub-AOC, each one delivering its own particular expression of the Chardonnay and/or Savagnin grapes. The La Vouivre is a vineyard blend of the domaine's four named parcels - En Beaumont, Le Calvaire, En Lya, and Trémoulette. The composition is 70% Chardonnay and 30% Savagnin. All the wine ...

2017 Domaine Dugois Ploussard "La Sombarde" Arbois Rouge

Ploussard/Poulsard is a red-skinned French grape variety that is a specialty of Arbois in northern Jura. Thin skins and pale coloring are the most obvious traits of Poulsard, while the delicate perfumes are what will be surprising. This is a wine of great finesse! Winery note: "The color is ruby ??with sometimes orange highlights. A light, fruity and light wine, with aromas of strawberry and raspberry, smoked, sweet spice. Balanced and fruity mouth with a beautiful aromatic expression."

2018 Veronique Anne Perret Roussette de Savoie Altesse

Founded in 1927 in the village of Jongieux, the Perret family has worked with many of the same seasoned growers for four generations. Roussette de Savoie is not the easiest appellation to describe as it encompasses vast parts of the region of Savoie. The most important thing to remember is that these are usually some of the best sites and they are 100% Altesse (aka Roussette). Altesse is a grape that seems to have more in common with Chenin Blanc rather than the local Jacquere. It is loaded with vibrant citrus notes and Mandarin orange qualities. It is d ...

From the importer: "Henri Le Roy farms a few tiny parcels of vineyards in the Cotes du Jura - an area just west of the Swiss border and Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), and just east of Burgundy. He’s an intense man - driven, and smart. In fact, his original career was as a Biologist, in Paris. Patrick Bottex "La Cueille" Bugey Cerdon Rosé (Méthode Ancéstrale)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dry, crisp, fresh and incredibly fragrant, this sparkling wine is a terrific bargain. The good news is there are around 4,000 cases of it, although I do not know how much is imported by Kermit Lynch...This cuvee may qualify as the 'wine bargain of the year.' A Champagne-like sparkling rose from the largely forgotten area of Bugey (which only received appellation status in 2009), this low alcohol (8%) offering is made from 90% Gamay and 10% Poulsard (an indigenous grape of the region). Domaine de la Belière Bugey Cerdon Rosé

Spontaneous fermentation - an altogether preferable scenario to spontaneous combustion, and A LOT more fun to drink. This pink, semi-dry bubbly was made by spontaneous fermentation, otherwise known as méthode ancestrale. Grapes are picked by hand (the local Poulsard and Gamay grown on mountainous slopes in the shadow of the Alps) and fermented in chilled vats just reaching 5 or 6 degrees alcohol. The young and light wine is then bottled, along with its active yeast and considerable unfermented sugar. Under pressure of the cork, the wine continues to ferm ...

2017 Château de Ripaille Vin de Savoie Ripaille

The Château de Ripaille is located in the far northeastern part of the Savoie appellation, along Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), just four kilometers from Evian-les-Bains, where the famed bottled water comes from. The château dates back to the 14th century, and today it is surrounded by 21 hectares of vines. The soils are mostly limestone, sun-baked glacial deposits and the vines are all Chasselas, the oldest known grape variety (its history dates back at least 5,000 years). The resulting wines are creamy, mineral and a touch bitter, in a pleasant way, with hin ...

This is the new Jura project of Patrick Ligeron and 2016 is just the second vintage for this house. 100% Savagnin, this has flavors of ripe fruits like apricot and apples with a touch of ripe citrus fruits and pepper. This is rich, yet powerful with a beautiful balance and could be kept at least 10 years. It pairs well with fish, white meat with creamy sauces, and cheeses such as Comté, Morbier and Mont d’Or.

2017 Jean-Claude Masson "Traditionnelle" Vin de Savoie Apremont Vieilles Vignes

David Schildknecht writes: "Jean-Claude Masson is still the arch terroiriste of Apremont, bottling separate wines from numerous sites...and using labels often even more distinctively different from one another than are their bottles’ contents. A welcome development here is that Masson now seems to be consistently taking the time to apply a vintage neck label or overprint, whereas he was formerly by no means alone among Savoyard vignerons in considering vintage-labeling a matter of minor consequence given that he sells everything out in the course of the ...

From Bourdy: "The only grape variety used to make Château Chalon, along with all Vin Jaune, is the Savagnin, which amongst other names used to be called 'Le Naturé' or 'Fromentin'. Its origin is mysterious. From a botanical point of view, it is closely related to the Klevener d'Heiligenstein grape which is cultivated in Alsace and is part of the Traminer family. Legend has it that the grape variety is Hungarian in origin, or perhaps Spanish, but there is no firm evidence for these claims. Historic documents suggest that savagnin was already being cultiva ...

2011 Les Matheny Chardonnay "6 ans sous voile" Arbois Blanc

Accolytes of Jacques Puffeney, Emeric and Elise Foleat are both born and bred Jura. Emeric worked for Puffeney for six years before he and his wife began their own venture. The "6 ans" is a Chardonnay treated exactly like a Vin Jaune but since it is not Savagnin cannot be classified that way. These two are one of the most exciting producers to keep your eye on. 2017 Domaine du Pelican Savagnin "Ouillé" Arbois Blanc

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The pure, elegant and clean 2017 Arbois Savagnin Ouillé is a more powerful vintage with concentration through low yields, but it still a straight and vertical white, with an unusual combination of power and elegance. There is a pleasant bitterness on the finish that somewhat offsets the ripeness of the year and makes the wine come through as nicely balanced. I tasted a 2015 for comparison, and that wine felt fresher than this, and the nose had more complexity and nuance. (LG) 91+" (06/2019)

Even the topped-up wines without flor have a nutty twist and a hint of curry that is really subtle here. The wine shows the concentration and power of the year combined with great purity and very clean aromas. As often happens with subtle wines, it has gained complexity, detail and depth over time. It's very drinkable now, but I do not discard the possibility that it might c ...
