1998 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan

94 points Vinous: "The 1998 Haut Bailly has been a great wine that coincided with the château’s acquisition by the late Bob Wilmers. It has a sublime bouquet with blackberry, boysenberry, crushed stone and hints of violet. After twenty years it is still so youthful. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly firm tannin at the beginning, plenty of tarry black fruit, well judged acidity and a finish that to be honest, is not a million miles away from the 1998 Haut-Brion in style. Top Pick!
1998 Pavie-Decesse, St-Emilion

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Pavie Decesse is medium to deep garnet-brick in color and explodes with fabulous plum pudding, prunes, blackberry preserves and blueberry pie notes with hints of smoked meats, garrigue, dusty soil, cast iron pan and star anise with dried roses and cinnamon stick wafts. Full-bodied, concentrated and packed with rich exotic spice and black fruit preserves layers, it has loads of mineral and meat sparks and a very, very long, layered finish. Incredible! For cellaring potential, I give it 20+ more years. (LP ...

1998 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac Léognan

93 points Wine Spectator: "A wine bursting with berry and green tobacco character, plus lots of currant, raisin and spice aromas. Full-bodied, with full, velvety tannins and a long aftertaste of tobacco and earth. Mouthpuckering. Best DC in years. Best after 2006." (01/2001)

1998 Clos de Sarpe, St-Emilion (1.5L)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium to deep garnet-brick in color, the 1998 Clos de Sarpe gives a beautiful perfume of Chinese five spice, sandalwood and preserved plums with notions of dried mulberries, potpourri, black truffles, cast iron pan and a compelling waft of aniseed. Medium-bodied with wonderful elegance, incredible freshness and a scintillating satiny texture, the perfumed layers just go on and on. Wow—fantastic surprise! (LPB)" (05/2018)
