1970 Taylor Vintage Port (Morgan Furze & Co)

99 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine's dark garnet color with minimal bricking suggests a relatively youthful wine and this certainly could age longer, although it's also delicious now. Wonderfully complex floral and herbal scents easily move into deep, rich flavors of chocolate and cherries, sprinkled with a healthy dose of Douro minerality and spice. Drink or hold. (JC)" (02/2007) 98 points Wine Spectator: "Clearly lives up to Taylor's superb reputation. Deep ruby, with intense violet and chocolate aromas, full-bodied, with gorgeous fruit flavors, f ...

1970 Fonseca Vintage Port (Bordeaux Wine Locaters Inc Import) (3.5cm fill, cracked capsule, exposed cork))

96 points Wine Spectator: "Some people may enjoy this wine's rather fat, rich and powerful fruit now, but I still find it too young for drinking. Deeply colored, with smoky mint, tar and fruit aromas, full-bodied, with concentrated fruit flavors and plenty of tannins. (JS, Web only-1989)" 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Vintners Company’s 650th anniversary celebration at Vintners Hall, the Fonseca 1970 was the finest bottle I have encountered. The bouquet opens beautifully with heady scents of clove, ginger, small red cherries, b ...

1970 Dow's Vintage Port (very high shoulder fill, signs of past seepage)

94 points Wine Spectator: "I have always been a fan of this very fine and well-made Port. Truly balanced in character, with focused flowers, spice and cherry. Full-bodied, with a sweet palate and a fine texture. (JS)" (12/1999) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "With a pale colour, this wine has developed into mainly earthy, meaty, gamey aromas with discernable notes of loam, underbrush and a touch of caramel over the sultana and Chinese dried plum fruit. After a few minutes, appealing scents of orange peel and dark chocolate begin to emerge. Cr ...

1970 Trotanoy, Pomerol (1.5L) (nicked label, torn capsule)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1970 Trotanoy can be prone to TCA issues, and I suffered a run of tainted bottles until this pristine example served in Bordeaux. One immediately discerns a deep garnet core, while the first sniff is like hearing the thundering of horses in the distance, presaging a spellbinding bouquet of iodine, macerated dark cherries, a hint of eucalyptus and with time, Japanese green tea (the traditional, “stand your spoon it type”). The palate is full-bodied with a velvety smooth texture, powerful and, I think, with mor ...

1970 Graham's Vintage Port

94 points John Gilman: "I drank quite a bit of the 1970 Graham’s over the course of the 1990s, but had not crossed paths with a bottle in several years until this most recent example. The wine is superb in 1970, as it displays a bouquet of voluptuous complexity, offering up scents of black cherry, plum, cedar, fresh mint, chocolate, a bit of tobacco leaf, and lovely, estery floral topnotes. On the palate the wine is focused and opulent, with fine framing acidity adding a note of precision to the attack, and with excellent freshness and balance on the sof ...

1970 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (torn/bin soiled labels, high shoulders, some nicked capsules)

Wine Spectator: "Pale garnet; cedary nose, with vanilla nuances; very concentrated; shows elegant, stylish cassis and tea flavors, but lacks the density and vigor of Mouton and Latour." (05/1993) Jancis Robinson: "Magnum. This was a strange wine as at the beginning it was rather tart and disappointing. And after 45 minutes or so it was starting to return to that state, but about 20-30 minutes after pouring it was absolutely glorious in typically Lafite lighter, but soaring, register. Mid ruby. A bit rusty. Light and a bit raw. Very light in fact. Lots ...

1970 Cockburn Vintage Port

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ruby color, with just a hint of brick at the rim. Mouthfilling red berries and plums, finishing with chocolate and peppery spice. Overall, it’s a bit austere, but pretty, and capable of another decade or two of further aging. Drink or hold. (JC)" (03/2004) Jancis Robinson: "Very dark ruby. (Darker than 1977.) A burnt, rather simple quality to this nose. Not much subtlety. Thick on the palate with very marked sweetness. Hot finish. Thick, sweet and almost New World! (JR) 17.5/20 points" (09/2012)

1970 Croft Vintage Port (1.5L)

90 points Vinous: "The 1970 Croft Vintage Port has a russet core. The nose is detailed and focused with an attractive bouquet of cooked meats, mulberry, spice and leather. It is light and feminine, although it never really develops the nuance that I was hoping for in the glass. The palate is vigorous and not quite as elegant as the 1966: a little more alcoholic and unrefined, the finish more linear with liquorice, burnt toffee and raisin. Moderate length. It is a vintage that should be consumed in the near future. Tasted in the Factory House in Porto for ...

1970 Trotanoy, Pomerol
Bid on this bottle of 1970 Trotanoy, Pomerol (96RP, 94JG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One immediately discerns a deep garnet core, while the first sniff is like hearing the thundering of horses in the distance, presaging a spellbinding bouquet of iodine, macerated dark cherries, a hint of eucalyptus and with time, Japanese green tea (the traditional, “stand your spoon it type”). The palate is full-bodied with a velvety smooth texture, powerful and, I think, with more substance than the impressive 1971. The 1970 Trotanoy has broader shoulders, perhaps not quite the same level of elegance but an enormous length on the opulent, almost marmalade-like finish. There is a faint tang of black olives lingering on the aftertaste. This is a stunning Trotanoy…with still some way to go. (NM)" (06/2017)
