1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I was served blind a magnum of the 1990 Montrose in Cape Town, which had been purchased on release and stored in perfect conditions. Now, here was the real deal, unfettered by any infection, a regal Saint Estèphe. It shows approximately the same evolution as the 1989 in bottle, but unsurprisingly showed less bricking in magnum format. The bouquet is cut from a different cloth to the 1989 and attests to that warm vintage: hickory, clove, undergrowth and wild fennel, later garrigue-like scents and terracotta, the ...

1990 Clos de Sarpe, St-Emilion

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium to deep brick in color, the 1990 Clos de Sarpe opens with notions of chanterelles, moss-covered tree bark, dusty earth and sandalwood over a core of dried cherries and plums plus a touch of new leather. Softly textured in the full-bodied mouth, the palate displays great richness and depth, with the long, compelling finish revealing a gustatory exercise in mineralogy. (LPB)" (05/2018)

1990 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (bin soiled label)

94 points Wine Spectator: "Concentrated. Medium-ruby color, with ripe plum, cigar tobacco and smoke aromas. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still closed, almost clumsy. Give it time. (JS)" (08/2000) 93 points John Gilman: "The 1990 Pichon-Lalande is a very fine example of the vintage. The deep, complex and vibrant nose delivers a classy mélange of dark berries, coffee, fresh herb tones, cigar smoke, a fine base of dark soil tones and plenty of smoky, toasty new oak. 1990 Graham's Malvedos Centenary Vintage Port

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is the sweetest, most fragrant, and most highly extracted of the three ports I tasted (Symington, Dow and Graham). Its flamboyant, up-front fat and decadence provide more initial appeal than the monstrous but restrained Dow. It also reveals extraordinary richness and a fabulous finish. These single Quinta ports are just as spectacular as any vintage port I tasted from 1983 or 1985. (RP)" (08/1992)

1990 Mount Eden Vineyards Santa Cruz Mountains Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Jeb Dunnuck writes: "Located on the warmer, eastern/northern side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Mount Eden Vineyards is one of the most historic estates in California. In addition, their wines have one of the longest track records in the region for aging beautifully. Originally planted in 1945, the estate covers roughly 40 acres today and Jeffrey Patterson makes the wines."

1990 Roc de Cambes, Côtes de Bourg

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I have been a big believer in this Cote de Bourg made by the obsessive/compulsive Francois Mitjavile, who is better known for his outstanding small St.-Emilion estate, Le Tertre-Roteboeuf. I initially rated these wines 89 for the 1990 and 88 for the 1989. In this recent tasting I was thrilled to see how well the wines showed. Both are fully mature, yet capable of lasting another 7-8 years. With the price escalation for wines such as Le Tertre-Roteboeuf, I suppose Roc des Cambes will now be known as the 'poor pers ...

1990 Palmer, Margaux

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Palmer vertical in London, I confess that maybe I've been harsh towards the 1990 Château Palmer in the past, since it never quite matched the sublime 1989. However, this represents the finest bottle that I have encountered. The nose is complex with red cherries, allspice and sous-bois, tertiary scents developing as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine balance, not the most complex 1990 and not a patch on say Château Margaux 1990, yet there is precision here and a plea ...

1990 Raymond Lafon, Sauternes (375ml)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This small estate continues to turn out remarkably rich, unctuously-textured, thick, powerful wines that brilliantly balance power and intensity with elegance and finesse. Now that the 1988, 1989 and 1990 vintages have had some time in the bottle, it appears that the light to medium gold colored 1990 may be the most complete and botrysized among this trio of exceptional wines from Raymond-Lafon. All the wines possess a light to medium gold color, with the 1989 revealing a more evolved, deeper color. All three win ...

1990 Dunn Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (bin soiled labels, some nicked labels)

(RP)" (10/1993) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Dense, ripe and concentrated, with a tough edge of tannin but plenty of berry, currant and plum fruit showing through. In the mouth there is superb concentration, a sweet, expansive texture, and a mind-boggling, long finish. This lavishly rich Cote Rotie, which is already delicious, is capable of lasting for 10-15 years. (JS)" (08/2000) 93 points Vinous: "The 1990 Sociando-Mallet is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc picked between September 13 and October 2. While not one of the vintage's blockbusters, it possesses all the classic elegance, fragrance, and harmony one expects of a high quality Margaux. The color remains a healthy dark ruby with a purple hue. The nose offers up lush, sweet, jammy black currant fruit intermixed with aromas of white flowers, spice, and a touch of smoky oak. Medium to full-bodied and fleshy with low acidity, sweet tannin, and an expansive mouthfeel with no hard edges, it is a fully mature 1990 that should drink well for another decade. 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné "La Chapelle" Hermitage
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné "La Chapelle" Hermitage (100RP, 98JS, 97WS, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Hermitage La Chapelle lived up to its reputation on this occasion, and of the three titans (1990, 1978 and 1961), it was probably my favorite. Still inky colored and ruby at the rim, it offers an absolutely profound bouquet of sweet cassis, smoked meats, chocolate, licorice and spice. This is followed by a full-bodied, insanely textured, pure and hedonistic palate that has that perfect mix of still-vibrant fruit and ample secondary nuances. I suspect the '61 was even richer at this stage, but the overall purity and freshness here are incredible. It will continue to evolve for decades, but I'd happily open bottles today. The explosive bouquet is followed by a low acid, full-bodied, chewy wine with sweet tannin and ripe, jammy fruit and glycerin. It hit its peak of maturity 4-5 years ago, but is holding nicely. Bid on this bottle of 1990 Beausejour (Duffau-Lagarrosse), St-Emilion (100RP, 98WS, 96JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the most singular Bordeaux I have ever tasted, it verges on being port-like, but it pulls back because of the extraordinary minerality and laser-like focus. The wine is massively concentrated, still black/purple-hued to the rim, and offers a nose of incense, blackberries, blueberry liqueur, acacia flowers, and forest floor. It reveals low acidity and high tannins, which are largely concealed by the sheer concentration and lavish glycerin the wine possesses. Aging at a glacial pace, it is approachable, but it will not hit its peak until 2020; it should last for twenty years thereafter. (RP)" (06/2009)

At this early stage, it does not appear to be as super-concentrated as Dunn's wines from the early and mid-eighties. It is slightly more tannic. Beautiful, sweet plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit soar from the glass of this opaque, purple wine that still hasn’t lost much in color. Then smooth, rich and dense, with a creamy texture and lively acidity nicely extending the flavors of dark berries, plum, mocha, soy sauce, leather and Oriental spices. A ripely tannic wine with a rich, exotic mouth feel, this comes across as a more opulent style of Cheval Blanc. Finishes extremely long and complex, with a smoky chocolatey nuance and a sweet coconut note. This outstanding and complex wine will have you going back to the glass again and again. A warm and dry year, the 1990 vintage was slightly hotter than 1989 (some cuvées of merlot clocked in at over 14% alcohol), with 11 days over 35°C between July and August. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Clerc-Milon, Pauillac (94RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 is a benchmark Clerc Milon that put all those years of hurt behind it. A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, this is a very different blend to the 1986 due to vineyard acquisitions. It is almost a decade since the 1990 blew me away whilst dining at Mouton in my 'buying' days and by 2013 it has retained that wondrous bouquet of blackberry, kirsch, fresh mint and leather. Frankly speaking, you would not want to put Mouton ’90 anywhere near, to spare the First Growth’s blushes. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Still inky/blue/purple-colored to the rim, it boasts a gorgeously sweet, pure nose of creme de cassis, spring flowers, and a hint of wet rocks. The wine is full-bodied, plush, and expansive with impressive levels of glycerin and purity as well as an endearing texture. Its medium ruby color is followed by a perfumed, complex bouquet of sandalwood, cedar, ripe cherries, licorice and Asian spices. Upfront and not holding anything back, it reveals loads of sweet fruit and is incredibly complex and nuanced aromatically. This gives way to a full-bodied, integrated and seamless Pomerol that has resolved tannin, perfect balance, an opulent mouthfeel, and a great finish. The wine should continue to drink well for at least another 30 or more years, but it is showing secondary nuances in the perfume. The wine is absolutely magnificent, broad, savory and mouth-filling. I have always had a soft spot for the 1990. It does not disappoint with gorgeous scents of clove, bay leaf, and warm gravel that are almost Pomerol-like in style. The palate is fresh and lively. This 1990 is very well balanced and eschews the warmth of that summer and allows the terroir to shine. It grips the mouth and offers black truffle and sage towards the slightly grainy textured finish that lingers on the palate. What a sublime Cos d’Estournel. 1990 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (98RP, 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Pichon-Longueville Baron has always been one of my benchmark wines, one that never ceases to perform. Now at 27 years of age, it is clearly at its peak, and what a wondrous thing it is. Now showing some bricking on the rim, the bouquet is utterly sublime, with red berries, cedar, touches of graphite, crushed rose petals and incense. You just want to become enveloped by these aromas. The palate is perfectly balanced, perhaps not as structured as it once showed since the tannins have mellowed, but what you get is a Pauillac relishing its secondary phase, which is almost Burgundy-like in terms of mouthfeel. Suffused with tension, it gains weight in the mouth toward the slightly tart finish. It is a Pichon Baron that only knows how to give sophisticated drinking pleasure. I once wrote that Pichon Baron is better than many 1990 First Growth, and that is a statement I have no reason

1990 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (96RP, 94ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As one might expect, this is a brilliant wine, but it remains shockingly young, even for the fast evolving 1990s. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by a classic, nearly restrained set of aromatics that includes notions of sweet black cherries, black currants, lead pencil, and wet stones. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, and while technically low in acidity, there is a freshness, delineation, and classicism in this full-throttle, rich, concentrated, impeccable 1990. While still youthful, it is easy to appreciate despite its substantial tannins. It is not quite as backward as the 1990 Lafite Rothschild or 1990 Latour. Anticipated maturity: now-2035. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (94DC, 94ST). Decanter: "Just pipped by its older sibling. Harvest lasted 18 September to 3 October, and grapes underwent a serious sorting after uneven ripening (they also did green harvesting). Autumn hedgerow aromatics with hawthorn and blackberries. The palate is soft and gentle, not as intense as the 1989 but still loaded with Pauillac signature. It didn’t get the most positive reaction on release, but this seems unfair at 30 years of age – this wine is still rippling with power. Label artist Francis Bacon, with one of his last works. 1990 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 1990 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The Hanzell vineyards were originally planted, with no expense spared, in the 1950s by James D. Zellerbach. The custom-built winery was modeled on the original Martin Ray winery and the aim was to reach the same levels of quality that the best Burgundian wines had set. Along with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Hanzell grows just a little Cabernet Sauvignon, as the late Countess Barbara de Brye, whose family still owns the estate, preferred the wines of Bordeaux! A rare find indeed.

1990 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (90RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This showed better than expected. It has a fine, eucalyptus nose complemented by fruitcake, bar leaf and a touch of cedar…certainly demonstrating more freshness and vigour than the ’91. The palate is medium-bodied with a very fine structure, firm tannins, very youthful. A little more depth than the ‘Roberson’ bottle. Very lithe and rounded towards finish with touches of allspice and eucalyptus. I like the ‘coolness’ here, whereas other vintages are marred by excessive heat. (NM)" (11/2009)

1990 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Margaux, Margaux (100RP, 98ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Chateau Margaux has turned into a sensational wine that eclipses both the 1988 and 1989...and then some. It has a gorgeous, ethereal bouquet with sumptuous red berry fruit, leather, camphor and licorice—it is the kind of nose in which you just immerse yourself. Is there a hint of brettanomyces here? If there is, I don't really care. The palate is soft and sensual with incredible depth. Fleshy and corpulent for Chateau Margaux, and yet surfeit with breeding and finesse, there are layers or red fruit, kirsch, sage and fig, later tobacco and cloves. I feel that this 1990 Château Margaux is at its peak and yet the harmony, the sheer swagger of this wine just wins you over. Magnificent. (NM)" (10/2016)

1990 Trotanoy, Pomerol
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Trotanoy, Pomerol (95RP, 95WS, 91ST, 91VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasting them side-by-side, it is clear that the 1990 Trotanoy is far superior to the 1989. It has a vibrant, ebullient, vivacious bouquet with blackcurrant pastilles, mulberry and crushed violets that blossom in the glass. The palate is tight at first but it opens up to reveal irresistible, velvety textured dark berry fruit tinged with thyme, mint and a touch of fennel. There is great density to the Trotanoy and certainly it remains youthful after 22 years, reluctantly evolving secondary aromas. This is a might Trotanoy that requires another ten years in the cellar. Tasted September 2012. (NM)" (09/2013)

1990 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (98RP, 94WS, 93VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In terms of the brilliant complexity and nobility of the aromatics, scorched earth, black currants, plums, charcoal, cedar, and spices, the 1990 offers an aromatic explosion that is unparalleled. It is always fascinating to taste this wine next to the 1989, which is a monumental effort, but much more backward and denser, without the aromatic complexity of the 1990. The 1990 put on weight after bottling, and is currently rich, full-bodied, opulent, even flamboyant by Haut Brion’s standards. It is an incredible expression of a noble terroir in a top vintage. While it has been fully mature for a number of years, it does not reveal any bricking at the edge, and I suspect it will stay at this level for another 10-15 years ... but why wait? It is irresistible now. (RP)" (06/2009)

1990 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva (96VN). Vinous: "The 1990 Barbaresco Riserva is unique in that it is the only non single-vineyard Red Label Riserva Giacosa has ever made, with the possible exception of the 1961 Barbaresco Riserva (which pre-dates the use of the Red Label). Masses of dark fruit, spices and minerals emerge from this large-scaled, dramatic Barbaresco. The wine remains impressively young, but the balance here is stunning. Readers who own this rare bottling should be thrilled. According to Bruno Giacosa the 1990 Barbaresco Riserva is a blend of the Santo Stefano and Gallina vineyards, both in Neive. The wine certainly shows the power and exuberance of the village, at times reminding me of Barbarescos from Starderi in its expansive, dense personality. This is wonderful juice. (AG)"(02/2010)

1990 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes (96RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine demands another 6-7 years of cellaring. Oddly, about three years ago it was giving signs of maturing quickly, but it has now completely shut down. The Bordeaux-like, saturated dense ruby/purple color is followed by a tight-fisted nose and flavors of black fruits, underbrush, minerals, smoke, and new oak. Although extremely concentrated, the wine is broodingly backward, and not fun to drink ... yet. This loaded effort should prove to be one of the longest-lived red Burgundies made in the last twenty years. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025. (RP)" (02/2002)

1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe (100RP, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I was served blind a magnum of the 1990 Montrose in Cape Town, which had been purchased on release and stored in perfect conditions. Now, here was the real deal, unfettered by any infection, a regal Saint Estèphe. It shows approximately the same evolution as the 1989 in bottle, but unsurprisingly showed less bricking in magnum format. The bouquet is cut from a different cloth to the 1989 and attests to that warm vintage: hickory, clove, undergrowth and wild fennel, later garrigue-like scents and terracotta, the latter two more pronounced on the bottle format compared to the youthful magnum. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, yet the balance is perfect, a ballerina-like poise with the structure of the Forth Bridge. It is a multi-layered Montrose that offers enormous length, fresh and vibrant with the magnum demonstrating tangible mineralite and tension as it fans out on the cr
