2016 Domaine de Baal "Petit Baal" Bekaa Valley Lebanon

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Le Petit Baal is mostly Merlot, with 20% each of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for six months in third use French oak. For the value end of the spectrum, this is very nicely done. Well balanced and reasonably structured, it also has some velvety texture. The concentration is not quite as good, but it typically seems elegant, not thin. The Syrah adds a little aromatic complexity here too. This is a bit tight but approachable now. It might be better at the end of the year, or this time next year. (MS)" (06/2018 ...

2008 Château Musar Rouge Bekaa Valley

Though Middle Eastern wine is something of a novelty in the U.S., wine is nothing new to this area; the cultivation of the vine goes back to the Phoenicians, who did a brisk business trading their wares along the Mediterranean Sea ports, introducing viniculture into many parts of southern Europe. Perhaps the oldest running wine concern in the region, Chateau Musar has been making fine wine 15 miles north of Beirut since 1930! These are reds of great character and subtlety, decidedly Old World in style. The grapes are hand-picked as the sun rises across t ...

2010 Château Musar Rouge Bekaa Valley Lebanon

Jancis Robinson: "Bright ruby. Heady, rich and gamey on the nose. Very hedonistic and accessible on the nose with real density and lifted slight gaminess. An attractive singed character on top of very ripe fruit. Great balance and freshness (but not excessive acidity) on the finish. Very neat on the end. Something rather wild and Romany about this. Already accessible even if I'm sure it will develop even more complex tertiary aromas. 18/20 points (JR)" (02/2018) K&L Notes: Though Middle Eastern wine is something of a novelty in the U.S., wine is nothin ...

2012 Château Musar Rosé Bekaa Valley

Château Musar is Lebanon's most famous producer. The winery does not make rosé every vintage, because the winemaker (the late Serge Hochar) sought very specific characteristics from the grapes he uses to create a fine, delicate and elegant rosé. The 2012 is composed of the indigenous Lebanese grapes Obaideh (55-65%) and Merwah (30-40%), thought to be ancestors of Chardonnay and Semillon, and a small amout of Cinsault. From the winery: "Elegant salmon pink in colour, this fragrant rosé has aromas of peaches, white fruits and flowers, basil with a hint of ...

The Hochar Père et Fils is sourced from vineyards near the village of Aana in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon. The 2016 vintage is a blend of Cinsault (50%), Grenache (35%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%). The grapes were fermented between 27°C and 29°C with maceration in cement vats, followed by 6 months in French Nevers oak barrels. Winery notes: "bright ruby red in colour with red fruits, plums, sloes and cherries on the nose and palate. This balanced and elegant wine combines vibrant fruit on a medium body with soft tannins, good acidity and cellared well, ...
