1970 Taylor Vintage Port (Morgan Furze & Co)

99 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine's dark garnet color with minimal bricking suggests a relatively youthful wine and this certainly could age longer, although it's also delicious now. Wonderfully complex floral and herbal scents easily move into deep, rich flavors of chocolate and cherries, sprinkled with a healthy dose of Douro minerality and spice. Drink or hold. (JC)" (02/2007) 98 points Wine Spectator: "Clearly lives up to Taylor's superb reputation. Deep ruby, with intense violet and chocolate aromas, full-bodied, with gorgeous fruit flavors, f ...

1970 Graham's Vintage Port

94 points John Gilman: "I drank quite a bit of the 1970 Graham’s over the course of the 1990s, but had not crossed paths with a bottle in several years until this most recent example. The wine is superb in 1970, as it displays a bouquet of voluptuous complexity, offering up scents of black cherry, plum, cedar, fresh mint, chocolate, a bit of tobacco leaf, and lovely, estery floral topnotes. On the palate the wine is focused and opulent, with fine framing acidity adding a note of precision to the attack, and with excellent freshness and balance on the sof ...

1970 Dow's Vintage Port (very high shoulder fill, signs of past seepage)

94 points Wine Spectator: "I have always been a fan of this very fine and well-made Port. Truly balanced in character, with focused flowers, spice and cherry. Full-bodied, with a sweet palate and a fine texture. (JS)" (12/1999) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "With a pale colour, this wine has developed into mainly earthy, meaty, gamey aromas with discernable notes of loam, underbrush and a touch of caramel over the sultana and Chinese dried plum fruit. After a few minutes, appealing scents of orange peel and dark chocolate begin to emerge. Cr ...

1970 Fonseca Vintage Port

96 points Wine Spectator: "Some people may enjoy this wine's rather fat, rich and powerful fruit now, but I still find it too young for drinking. Deeply colored, with smoky mint, tar and fruit aromas, full-bodied, with concentrated fruit flavors and plenty of tannins. (JS, Web Only-1989)" 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Vintners Company’s 650th anniversary celebration at Vintners Hall, the Fonseca 1970 was the finest bottle I have encountered. The bouquet opens beautifully with heady scents of clove, ginger, small red cherries, b ...

1970 Cockburn Vintage Port (Previously $200)

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ruby color, with just a hint of brick at the rim. Mouthfilling red berries and plums, finishing with chocolate and peppery spice. Overall, it’s a bit austere, but pretty, and capable of another decade or two of further aging. Drink or hold. (JC)" (03/2004) Jancis Robinson: "Very dark ruby. (Darker than 1977.) A burnt, rather simple quality to this nose. Not much subtlety. Thick on the palate with very marked sweetness. Hot finish. Thick, sweet and almost New World! (JR) 17.5/20 points" (09/2012)

1970 Croft Vintage Port (1.5L)

90 points Vinous: "The 1970 Croft Vintage Port has a russet core. The nose is detailed and focused with an attractive bouquet of cooked meats, mulberry, spice and leather. It is light and feminine, although it never really develops the nuance that I was hoping for in the glass. The palate is vigorous and not quite as elegant as the 1966: a little more alcoholic and unrefined, the finish more linear with liquorice, burnt toffee and raisin. Moderate length. It is a vintage that should be consumed in the near future. Tasted in the Factory House in Porto for ...

1970 Haut-Brion, Graves
Bid on this bottle of 1970 Haut-Brion, Graves (94JG, 92RP, 90WS). John Gilman: "This bottle of 1970 Haut Brion was flat out magnificent, with a depth and intensity that only comes from pristinely stored examples. The magnificent bouquet soars from the glass in a mélange of red berries, tobacco, coffee, St. Emilion-like menthol tones, cocoa powder, orange zest, hot bricks and a pungent, mature Graves note of candle wax. On the palate the wine is medium-full, long and intensely-flavored, with fabulous focus and depth, and a very, very long, seamless and complex finish. There are beautiful framing acids here which give the wine lift and brightness. A beautiful example of the 1970 vintage. (Drink between 2006-2025) " (05/2007)

1970 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1970 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti Grand Cru (93BH, 90VN). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "(with thanks to Rob Rosania). I was shocked at how much better this was than the same wine in magnum format (see herein) as it was not only remarkably youthful but possessed terrific mid-palate fat and density with the classic restrained spiciness and dried rose petal nose and striking length as well as the sheer RC class. A stunning effort for the vintage and this dwarfs the 750 ml and magnum format quality at this point in the wine's evolution." (03/2008)

1970 Moet & Chandon "Dom Pérignon" Brut Champagne (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 1970 Moet & Chandon "Dom Pérignon" Brut Champagne (1.5L) (93BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As well-aged Champagne often does because of the heavy yeast influence, the nose plays right on the edge of oxidative aromas yet doesn't cross over the line and this allows the white orchard fruit, floral, baked bread and toast elements to shine. There is still good energy to the utterly delicious and still attractively intense flavors thanks to the presence of a firm supporting mousse that allows this to drink like a materially more youthful Champagne. I very much liked this and in magnum format this lovely effort should continue to drink well for a number of years to come." (10/2015)
