1999 Lestage Simon, Haut-Médoc

Cha^teau Lestage Simon is a lovely embodiment of a Cru Bourgeois. Located at Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, which is beside the great vineyard of Saint-Este`phe, this profits from an outstanding terroir which is complex and diverse, and whose uniqueness is the basis of the chateau’s wines. The situation of the vines vary considerably. Some grapes derive from sandy soils along the riverbank, others from limestone and clay-limestone soils further inland. The Cha^teau produces a supple Haut-Me´doc, whose structure, richness, and balance create excellent cellari ...

1999 Etude Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Wine Spectator: "Enormously complex, deep, dark, rich and polished, with layers of concentrated black cherry, blackberry, currant and anise. Framed by pretty toasty oak, the fruit holds a firm upper hand, turning richly tannic on the finish. Best from 2004 through 2015. " (10/2002) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a tannic vintage for Napa Cabernet, Etude’s 1999 is a stunning success. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by a restrained but noble bouquet of creme de cassis, vanilla, and lead pencil. This medium to full-bodied e ...

1999 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Wine Spectator: "Rich, earthy, decadent aromas are intense and enormously concentrated, with sharply focused, currant, pencil lead, mineral, sage and dusty berry flavors that offer uncommon depth and concentration. Finishes with an amazingly long and detailed aftertaste. Should be a 20-year wine, with ease. *Collectibles* (JL)" (11/2002) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard (a 1,750-case blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, and 3% Merlot) boasts explosive aromas ...

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright medium ruby. Fresh aromas of blackcurrant, violet and powdered chocolate. Bright, spicy flavors of currant, currant leaf and spices, with a sweet, creamy quality in the middle. Finishes with dusty, fairly ripe tannins. (ST)" (12/2002) Wine Spectator: "Complex, with a mix of earth, mineral, dried currant, leather and dusty, cedary oak. Full-bodied and youthful, this is a bit drying on the finish, yet drinking very well. (JL, Web-2009)"

1999 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien

(04/2002) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A powerful nose, with sweet tobacco and sultana, follows through to a full body, featuring ultrafine tannins and a long, long finish, as well as lovely texture. This needs more time. Still tight and structured. (JS, Web Only-2010)" 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Leoville-Barton ’99 has a well-defined nose, more restrained and extrovert than the Langoa, with notes of blackberry, wild hedgerow/woodland, Chinese tea and a dash of white pepper. Very good ...

1999 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe

Jancis Robinson: "Sweet and resolved on the nose. Very round: not a tannin to be seen. Just a tad simple but pleasing and with good freshness on the finish. Just a bit chewy. All very flattering at first. Round and charming. At a completely different stage of evolution from the 2000 - much more evolved. (JS)" (08/2013) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red-ruby. Wild aromas of redcurrant, minerals, leather, gunflint and game; developing faster than either of the more recent vintages are likely to do. A wine of modest density and fat, and cur ...

1999 La Closerie du Poujeaux, Moulis

This great, ready to drink Bordeaux is composed of aproximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Chateau La Closerie du Grand Poujeaux is a direct neighbor of Chasse-Spleen, and like that Chateau is an almost secret, insiders Bordeaux. Moulis sits between Margaux and St. Julien, and this wine reflects that origin, with both great purfume and dark cassis power. It also has the texture that only time in the bottle can bring. A great value in ready to drink Bordeaux! -Gary Westby

1999 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir

Wine Spectator: "An elegant style, with mineral, ripe cherry, spice and anise, and a delicate fresh earth and minerally aftertaste. (JL)" (09/2003) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Bright red cherry fruit aromas cut with noticeable earth and spice notes precede medium weight, nicely precise and detailed flavors supported by moderate structure and a hair of finishing astringency. This will likely come around quickly yet there is a solid acid spice that should permit the flavors to evolve over the next 5 to 7 years. When to drink this will depend on your pref ...

1999 Brane-Cantenac, Margaux (1.5L)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A beautifully complex perfume of fresh tobacco as well as cigar smoke, sweet licorice, and black currants is followed by an elegant, pure, harmonious Margaux. While not a big wine, it is medium-bodied, intense, and moderately structured. It should improve in the bottle, and merit an outstanding score in 2-3 years. (RP)" (04/2002) Vinous: "The 1999 Brane-Cantenac was picked September 17-28 at 44.6hl/ha. 1999 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This 1999 is one of the finest efforts of the vintage. It offers up complex aromatics consisting of herbs, red and black fruits, minerals, acacia flowers, and licorice. The dark plum color does not possess the saturation of a vintage such as 2000, but this is pure seduction in a medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, nicely-textured effort. It is virtually impossible to duplicate such a wine anywhere else in the world. (RP)" (04/2002) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red. Reticent aromas of raspb ...

Lively aromas of black raspberry, bitter chocolate and mint. Good texture and restrained sweetness; dark berry flavors are quite youthfully unevolved. 1999 Arietta Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Proprietary Red (a 500-case blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot) offers a dense ruby/purple color as well as a gorgeous Bordeaux-like bouquet of mocha, menthol, scorched earth, black cherries, currants, smoke, and toasty oak. The wine is expressive and full-bodied, with stunning concentration yet admirable delineation. Its moderately high tannin in the finish suggests considerable patience is warranted. The layered, rich, intense 1999 possesses superb fruit purity and medium to full body. This is one of the most concentrated and potentially longest-lived wines of the vintage. 1999 Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne (3L)

Elegant, deep, and silky-textured, this medium to full-bodied beauty is immensely concentrated, pure, packed with apple flavors, and astoundingly long in the finish. 1999 Magdelaine, St-Emilion (torn label)

John Gilman: "Château Magdelaine was one of the properties in St. Émilion that was able to harvest their grapes ahead of the worst rains of September of 1999 and the wine is one of the best of the vintage as a result. It is still a tad youthful and primary in profile, but is blossoming nicely and should really start to hit its plateau of peak maturity in another few years. 1999 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (95JG, 94WE, 92WS, 91VN, 90CG). John Gilman: "1999 was only the fourth vintage “back” for Martha’s Vineyard, after its replanting in the late 1980s, but the wine is absolutely spectacular. The alcohol here is a tad lower than the 14.5 percent of the 2005 and 2002 Martha’s, as it weigh in at 14.2 percent. The bouquet is absolutely a classic expression of this inimitable terroir, as it soars from the glass in a blaze of red and black cherries, eucalyptus, raw cocoa, Rutherford Dust, woodsmoke and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and suave on the attack, with a great core of fruit, a touch of mid-palate tariness, ripe tannins, superb focus and great grip on the very, very long, refined and intense finish. A great young vintage of Martha’s Vineyard. (Drink between 2016-2050)" (05/2011)

1999 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1999 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (95RP, 94WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Lafite Rothschild sports an engraved '1999' on the bottle along with an eclipse to mark that significant historical event of August, 1999. It is a quintessential offering from Lafite Rothschild. This prodigious wine is both elegant and intensely flavored, and almost diaphanous in its layers that unfold with no heaviness. An opaque ruby/purple color is accompanied by a complex bouquet of lead pencil, graphite, cedar, creme de cassis, toast, and vanilla. It is medium-bodied, with extravagant layers of richness yet little weight, and a finish that is all sweetness, ripeness, and harmony. This extraordinary Lafite increasingly appears to be a modern day clone of the majestic 1953. A mere one-third of the crop made it into the grand vin! (RP)" (04/2002)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1999 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (95RP, (92-95ST), 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (an 8,600-case cuvee made from yields of 1.98 tons of fruit per acre) is considered by Bo Barrett to be a 'great' year. The wine boasts a saturated inky/purple color as well as extraordinary density of fruit and cassis, and huge tannin, body, and extract. It is a substantial, palate-staining, long, muscular Cabernet that should only be purchased by connoisseurs with cold cellars as well as patience. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2030...The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon remains one of California's most remarkable Cabernets. I have been following it since the early seventies, and even the most difficult vintages are still drinking beautifully.
