2005 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 from Cheval Blanc is a quintessentially elegant, beautiful, deep bluish/ruby-colored wine from St.-Emilion, with raspberry, blueberry, and floral notes, impressive density, great precision, freshness and purity. Full-bodied, but extremely light on its feet, I don’t mean to gush, but it is super-intense, rich and just so meticulously crafted! This is another fabulous wine and a perfect expression for this vintage. It is difficult to forget the gorgeous blueberry and raspberry fruit, full body, sweet tann ...

2005 d'Yquem, Sauternes

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "This isn’t sweet, but just so wonderfully rich. It’s the concentration of botrytis that makes the wine. The texture is velvet, but with a spicy bite to it. Apricot, honey and marzipan all contribute to a wine that will age over decades. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (12/2009) 97 points Wine Spectator: "This has a deliciously pure feel, with juicy, inviting green plum, ginger, heather, creamed pineapple and Jonagold apple flavors all melded together and gliding through the lengthy finish, which echoes with lilting flowers and drie ...

2005 Margaux, Margaux

100 points James Suckling: "The nose on this seems more concentrated than the 2000, and the purity of fruit is stunning, with blueberries, raspberries, fresh flowers, and hints of licorice. This is perfect and complete. Full bodied, with notes of forest berries and wild raspberries, this is thick and velvety with perfectly polished tannins. You can really feel the density on this, more than the tannic structure. This is a sleeping beauty that will be utterly captivating when it awakes. Don't touch this until after 2015. 2005 Guiraud, Sauternes (Elsewhere $75)

97 points James Suckling: "This appears to be the synthesis of the fabulous 2001 and 2003. It shows wonderful aromas of botrytis spice, honey and citrus rind. Lots of fruit with a tropical fruit undertone of mango and papaya on the palate. Intense finish. Too excellent not to drink. " (07/2013) 97 points Wine Spectator: "Delivers lots of botrytis spice, with lemon tart and cooked apple. Full-bodied, with loads of cream and vanilla and an intense tropical fruit and honey aftertaste. Long and viscous, with a layered and beautiful spicy finish. Hard not t ...

2005 Branon, Pessac-Leognan

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This small jewel of a property owned by the Garcin family has been making great wine for a number of years, with the only problem being its very limited availability. Their beautifully deep 2005 has a dark purple color and displays charcoal, blackberry and cassis fruit, with some smoky barbecue notes in the background. This full-bodied, opulent wine is still youthful at age 10, and promises to continue to evolve for another 15-20 years. Pure and stunning, this is a great wine of the vintage. 2005 Vincent Girardin Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red-ruby. Blackberry, licorice, leather, flowers, minerals and smoky oak on the pure, complex nose. A bit less expressive in the mouth, but with enticing sweetness to its dense dark fruit, mineral and licorice flavors. Finishes layered and quite long, with a juicy quality and impressive chewy depth. 92+ points. 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Very dense, black, dominated by dark tannins and plum skins, with a mineral edge. The acidity and the ripe fruits are under all this structure, typical of young Saint-Estèphe. This needs time - don't touch for five years." (06/2008) 90 points James Suckling: "The aromas of walnut shell, chocolate and berries are all there. Full body with soft, velvety tannins and a fruity finish. Already ready to drink." 2005 Pavie, St-Emilion

100 points James Suckling: "This is monumental. Just a baby with a fresh and intense mouthfeel and density. Full-bodied, velvety and layered. Decadent and rich. A folly of a wine. Drink or hold." (01/2019) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Gérard Perse believes this is the greatest Pavie he’s made to date, although certainly I would argue that list includes the 2000, as well as the 2009 and 2010, among his superstars. Full-bodied, with a mind-blowing texture of seamless tannins that coat every millimeter of the palate. Goes on and on, with licorice, currant and flowers. Time will tell if it's better than the 2000. 2005 Haut-Bergey, Pessac-Léognan

91 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of mineral, blackberry and licorice lead to a full body, with lots of racy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. There's plenty of character, with a polished, refined style, yet tannic. Best after 2011. (JS)" (03/2008) 90 points John Gilman: "Château Haut-Bergey was one of the most pleasant surprises of the entire 2005 tasting. 2005 Sanctus, St. Emilion

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a special 7.5 acre parcel culled from the Bienfaisance vineyard, this 1,000-case cuvee is dominated by its Merlot component (the blend also includes some Cabernet Franc). As are most of St.-Emilion’s garigiste wines, it is given a Burgundian-like treatment of pre-fermentation cold maceration, malolactic in barrel, aging on its lees, and little clarification, all designed to accentuate the terroir, and enhance the wine’s texture and perfume. Powerful and concentrated with full-bodied richness, stunning purity, and a tannic, 40+-second finish, this beauty requires patience. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2030+. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Lucien le Moine Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (96RP, 96WS, (93-95BH), 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru from Lucien Le Moine was an absolutely gorgeous wine, though following winemaker Mounir's advice, as with all of his wines, I afforded it a long seven-hour decant and a vigorous shake. The bouquet has a crystalline purity, armed with maraschino cherries, fresh raspberry, orange sorbet and a touch of cold stone. The palate similarly has exceptionally fine clarity and precision, harmonious from start to finish, intensity married with freshness and vitality. Such is the poise but you hardly notice the intensity and length here. For sure, it is a grand cru in its infancy, although with appropriate decanting/aeration, I would begrudge anyone from opening a bottle now. However, it has the substance and breeding to last many years. (NM)" (04/2016)
