2005 Peay Vineyards "Pomarium Estate" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Succulent strawberry and raspberry on the nose, with a zesty mineral overtone. Bright and refreshing, with vibrant red berry and red licorice flavors, silky tannins and sexy Indian spice and floral accents. Gains in sweetness on the finish but maintains admirable vivacity and focus." (05/2007) Wine & Spirits: "There's a bit more transparency to Pomarium than Peay's Scallop Shelf (above). This lasts with black pepper spice and a contrast of sweetness and salinity, the rich extract suited ...

2005 Domaine Olivier Hillaire Châteauneuf-du-Pape

92 points Wine Spectator: "Very perfumy, almost exotic, with lots of alluring mocha and cinnamon notes, followed by fruit cake, fig, linzer torte and lingonberry notes that all linger nicely on the bright finish. Drink now through 2022." (10/2007) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright medium red. Jammy red berry and cherry scents are perked up by a tangy mineral undertone. Well-focused, sweet raspberry and kirsch flavors are complicated by a gentle olive quality and finish with impressive sappy length. This is already delicious. ...

2005 Martinelli "Zio Tony Ranch" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

92 points Wine Spectator: "Shows savory aromas of earthy cherry, earthen floor, mushroom and spice. The Pinot Noir fruit is pure, rich and focused on the palate, with a long, detailed finish." (06/2007) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Pinot Noirs also showed well, with the 2005 Pinot Noir Zio Tony Ranch dark ruby with notes of pomegranate, sweet and sour cherries, a hint of spice, and a medium to full-bodied, concentrated palate. 2005 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2005 Haut Brion is out of this world and certainly one of the finest wines I’ve ever tasted. Deeper, richer, and more concentrated than the 2000, it offers as pure an expression of this terroir as I could image with huge notes of blackcurrants, roasted herbs, scorched earth, tobacco, and earth all literally soaring from the glass. Full-bodied, powerful, concentrated, and layered, it still holds onto the hallmark elegance and purity of the estate. Wine doesn’t get any better and this tour de force can be drunk anytime over the ...

2005 Pride Mountain Sonoma County Cabernet Franc

91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Leading with intense, blackberry, plum and coffee aromas, this very ripe but well-balanced bottling surprises with its almost claret-like structure, and, while showing up with typical Cabernet Franc toughness at the finish, it also conveys a wholly convincing sense of fruit. It is among the more complex wines of its class, and its emerging elements of rich oak, cola and loamy soil give rise to expectations for further interest... *Two Stars* " (04/2008) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The elegant, dark ruby/blue ...

2005 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Library Release)

96 points Decanter: "A long, cool growing season, with harvest from the end of September to the end of October, delivered fantastic flavour development. More Bordeaux-like than most in the tasting, it was highly aromatic, with a lush cassis, violet and graphite nose, and intense flavours of dark plum cherry fruit, cocoa, and notes of espresso. It’s expressive right now, yet the powerful tannins say it’s got years to go. One for collectors. Drinking Window 2018 - 2035 (EM)" (06/2018) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is still ri ...

2005 Latour, Pauillac (2017 Ex-Chateau Release)

100 points Wine & Spirits: "How rare to confront a wine of this inner strength and perfect form. Grown at a 116-acre vineyard at the southern border of Pauillac, some of the vines now reaching 100 years of age on a gravel bar overlooking the Gironde, Latour harvests Cabernet Sauvignon with natural power. I could describe it as colors, from glistening ruby to purple-black then back to scarlet tannins that vibrate in red. Or just the pure, unadulterated flavor of black currant, unformed as a child is unformed, beautiful as a child is beautiful. However I m ...

2005 Archery Summit "Arcus Estate" Dundee Hills Oregon Pinot Noir

95 points Wine Spectator: "Polished and round, this is velvety at the edges, with a glowing core of blackberry, currant and dark plum fruit surrounded by hints of cinnamon and white pepper. The texture is soft and the flavors pure as it all comes together on the long, gentle finish. (HS)" (03/2008) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a vintage whose patterns (including full ripeness at sugar levels that still invited chaptalization) Matzinger likens to those of 2010 'and even more 2011' (the latter exciting from barrel, incidentally), the Ar ...

2005 Siran, Margaux

91 points Wine Spectator: "Shows attractive blackberry and spice character, with hints of meat and toasty oak. Medium- to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a chewy finish. Best after 2013." (03/2008) 88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A structured, muscular Margaux, the 2005 Siran exhibits scents of minerals, earth, black currants, and incense. Meaty and rich, it is ideal for drinking between 2008-2018." (04/2006) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red-ruby. 2005 Barbour Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The Barbour Vineyard is located on the west side of the Napa Valley, just south of St. Helena. The vines, planted in 1992, are a clone from the famed Grace Family Vineyard (incidentally, a vineyard that well-known viticulturist and proprietor Jim Barbour helped develop). Dry-farmed and farmed sustainably, this small production wine (about 500 cases) was made by Heidi Barrett. Composed of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc and aged for 20 months in 60% new French oak. On bottling, it had a fabulous fruit-filled bouquet of kirsch and cassis, vani ...

2005 Lewis Cellars Napa Syrah

94 points Wine Spectator: "A ripe, rich, grapey, concentrated, forward style that firms up nicely, with structured plum, wild berry, blackberry and boysenberry flavors that coat the palate. Builds intensity and depth on the finish, with a long, persistent aftertaste. (JL)" (03/2008) K&L Notes: Made from grapes grown on rocky, volcanic hillsides, this Syrah is a powerhouse wine. Blackberries, blueberries and vanilla-oak spice aromas charge on the nose, with those same concentrated black fruits and espresso on the textured mid-palate. Gripping tannins an ...

2005 Belle Glos "Las Alturas" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

Like a spice box, this Pinot offers a panaply or aromas, including clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and star anise, with cranberry fruit and a hint of red cherry. Tarty fruity on the palate, with silkiness and always a great deal of elegance, this does not sacrifice finesse or subtlety in the pursuit of weight and power like so many doestic Pinot Noirs seem to do. Terrific now, this impressive red will only imporive over thext 8-10 years.

2005 Andrew Rich Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

From Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Understated redcurrant and strawberry aromas are complicated by pungent herbs, fresh rose and dusty minerals. Taut and focused, offering zesty red fruit flavors and a subtle anise quality, and picking up a touch of vanilla on the sweet, clean finish." (May/June '08) A great vintage for Oregon winemaker Andrew Rich. Great purity of fruit on the nose and palate. Set on a delicate oak frame that highlights as opposed to overpowering.

2005 Two Hands "Brave Faces" Shiraz-Grenache Barossa Valley

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A brilliant effort is the 2005 Brave Faces, a small barrel-aged (20% new) blend of 70% Shiraz and 30% Grenache. Flamboyant aromas of black and red fruits, spice box, flowers, and toast are followed by a rich wine with loads of texture and glycerin as well as a heady, full-throttle yet velvety finish. It should drink well for a decade." (10/2006) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(a 65/35 blend) Bright ruby. Dense without being chewy, tannic without biting, this is a broad-shouldered yet elegantly balanced style. " (06/2008) K&L Notes: If you're a fan of California cult wines, then you're probably familiar with the name Andy Erickson, who followed Heidi Peterson as winemaker at Screaming Eagle and has gone on to start or consult on a series of successfull labels including Favia, Ovid, Dancing Hares, Jonata and, of course, Leviathan. 2005 Keenan Napa Valley Merlot

From Robert Parker: "The elegant 2005 Merlot reveals a sweet berry-scented nose with notions of roasted herbs, crushed rocks, and subtle wood as well as road tar. This medium-bodied, well-balanced, silky Merlot should be consumed over the next 5-8 years." (Dec. 2007) From Wine Enthusiast: "Very rich, ripe and forward in fruit, with masses of currants, licorice, violets, chocolate and cedar. Offering beautiful black cherry and black raspberry fruit, abundant chalk, minerality, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long finish, this over-achieving, full-throttle Fronsac is a brilliant example of the vintage and of this terroir. The finish falls off a bit, but remember, this is Charbono, not Cabernet Sauvignon. (RP)" (12/2006) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright medium ruby. 2005 Dyer Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

From the winery: "Early in 2013 we had a chance to taste thru 15 vintages of Dyer Vineyard - what was exciting to us was the way the core characteristics (dark chocolate, black cherry, anise) of the vineyard came through while the vintage differences were pronounced - and all of them were still very much alive! It made for a range of wines that guided us thru the years. One of our favorites from that tasting was the 2005 vintage Dyer Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. At 9 years of age, this wine still has the concentrations and depth of flavor that it showed ...

One of the darkest-colored wines in this portfolio, it offers deep, complex notes of underbrush/forest floor, sassafras, earth, and sweet blackberry, currant, and raspberry fruit are present in this full-bodied, fragrant, multi-dimensional, expansive Pinot.
