2015 d'Arenberg "The Dead Arm" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia (Elsewhere $64)

96 points James Halliday: "This is a particularly good Dead Arm, its alcohol miraculously the same as the '14, but however that may be, it has an elegance to its mouthfeel and lingering finish." (08/2018) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Black cherries and black olives mark the nose of the 2015 The Dead Arm Shiraz, d'Arenberg's flagship bottling. It's a blend of older and younger vines from different sites, depending on what the fruit has to offer. Full-bodied, concentrated and firmly structured, it's nevertheless velvety on the long finish, p ...

2016 John Duval "Entity" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia (Elsewhere $40)

97 points James Halliday: "60% Barossa Valley, 40% Eden Valley grapes, open-fermented with submerged cap, matured for 15 months in new (33%) and used French hogsheads. Deeply colored; this is at once full-bodied and elegant, not a common marriage with young red wines with decades in front of them. The flavors are all black: blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, earth and licorice. The old vines have also provided ripe tannins, the whole theme resonated with oak a la Grange." (12/2018) 94 points James Suckling: "A ripe nose with the classic blackberry ...

2014 John Duval "Plexus" GSM Barossa Valley South Australia (Elsewhere $44)

94 points James Halliday: "A 47/32/21% blend drawn from old vineyards in a number of districts, Krondorf the one constant, fermented with submerged cap (header boards), matured in French hogsheads (10% new). As is appropriate, complex, but largely fruit-driven, with red cherries/berries and plums to the fore, oak and (particularly) tannins taking a back seat." (10/2016) 93 points Vinous: ""(aged for 14 months in 90 percent used and 10 percent new large French oak barrels) Vivid ruby-red. Expansive aromas of ripe red berries, candied flowers and spiceca ...

2011 Mollydooker "The Carnival of Love" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia (Previously $85)

94 points Wine Spectator: "Dense, deep and complex, offering a cascade of cherry, blueberry and clotted cream flavors, with a whole range of spices on a plush texture. This has an arresting presence and finishes with pizzazz. Drink now through 2020. (HS)" (03/2013) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Very deep green-purple in color, the 2011 Carnival of Love flaunts a very expressive and fragrant nose with floral notes, roses and potpourri intermingled with toasty black cherries, creme de cassis, chocolate, pepper and accents of cinnamon and clov ...

2016 Penfolds "Bin 707" Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia (Previously $450)

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The flagship Cabernet Sauvignon is the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 707 and it comes mostly from the Coonawarra and McLaren Vale regions. Brought up all in new American oak, this brilliant effort is another tour de force from this producer that has massive notes of crème de cassis, lead pencil, vanilla bean, white chocolate, and hints of mint all soaring from the glass. Inky colored, full-bodied, and with a flamboyant, opulent mouthfeel, it opens up beautifully with time in the glass and didn’t show a hint of oxidation or tiredness ...

2016 Schwarz "META" Grenache Barossa South Australia (Previously $20)

90 points James Halliday: "Hand-picked, 86% whole bunches, wild-fermented, neither fined or filtered. Very light colour, not much more than rose. Grenache is like pinot noir: the depth (or lack) of colour can fool those who jump to conclusions. The spicy, juicy red fruits are not confected, the finish fresh." (08/2017) K&L Notes: Grenache from Bethany and Marananga in the Barossa Valley. Wild fermented. 86% whole bunches. There’s a line of redcurrant and sweet raspberry, on both the nose and palate, but it quickly turns dry, smoky, almost sandy. This i ...
