2005 Pavie, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Pavie, St-Emilion (100JS, 100RP, 99VN, 96WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Gérard Perse believes this is the greatest Pavie he’s made to date, although certainly I would argue that list includes the 2000, as well as the 2009 and 2010, among his superstars. This wine, which I had both in the 2005 horizontal report in the Wine Advocate, and at a mini-vertical with Perse at the restaurant Maison Boulud in Montreal, looks to be a 75- to 100-year wine. Dense, opaque purple to the rim, with a gorgeously promising nose of blackberries, cassis, graphite and cedar wood just beginning to emerge, it tastes more like a three-year-old than wine that is already a decade old. This beauty is intense and full-bodied, with magnificent concentration, a majestic mouthfeel and a total seamless integration of tannin, wood, alcohol, etc. Beautifully rich, full and multidimensional, this is a tour de force in winemaking and certainly one of the top dozen or so 2005 Bo

1990 Beausejour (Duffau-Lagarrosse), St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Beausejour (Duffau-Lagarrosse), St-Emilion (100RP, 98WS, 96JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the most singular Bordeaux I have ever tasted, it verges on being port-like, but it pulls back because of the extraordinary minerality and laser-like focus. The wine is massively concentrated, still black/purple-hued to the rim, and offers a nose of incense, blackberries, blueberry liqueur, acacia flowers, and forest floor. It reveals low acidity and high tannins, which are largely concealed by the sheer concentration and lavish glycerin the wine possesses. Aging at a glacial pace, it is approachable, but it will not hit its peak until 2020; it should last for twenty years thereafter. (RP)" (06/2009)

1990 Angélus, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Angélus, St-Emilion (99RP, 98JD, 94VN, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, this is clearly the greatest Angelus until the 2000, 2003 and then the perfect 2005. Beautiful, sweet plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit soar from the glass of this opaque, purple wine that still hasn’t lost much in color. Deep, opulent, voluptuously textured, full-bodied and multidimensional, this is a stunner and just now approaching its plateau of full maturity, where it should stay for at least another 20 years. 1990 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion (98JD, 98RP, 98VN, 97JS, 93WS). Vinous: "Bright red. Very complex, deep nose of blackcurrant, red cherry, coffee, tar, tobacco leaf and flowers. Then smooth, rich and dense, with a creamy texture and lively acidity nicely extending the flavors of dark berries, plum, mocha, soy sauce, leather and Oriental spices. A ripely tannic wine with a rich, exotic mouth feel, this comes across as a more opulent style of Cheval Blanc. Finishes extremely long and complex, with a smoky chocolatey nuance and a sweet coconut note. This outstanding and complex wine will have you going back to the glass again and again. A warm and dry year, the 1990 vintage was slightly hotter than 1989 (some cuvées of merlot clocked in at over 14% alcohol), with 11 days over 35°C between July and August. From July to September there was 27% more sunlight than average and it was very dry throughout. It was also a very precocious year, with flowering occurring around M

1981 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 1981 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion (94JG, 92RP). John Gilman: "In my days as a wine merchant, I drank an awful lot of bottles of the 1981 Cheval Blanc, as I always found this to be one of the top wines of the vintage and its price back in the day (and I know I am really dating myself here) was often around forty dollars a bottle! It was pretty easy at that price to reach for this wine off of the shelf to take home and elevate a midweek dinner with its beauty and elegance! At age thirty-five, the wine continues to drink with great vibrancy and complexity, wafting from the glass in a constellation of red and black cherries, menthol, a beautifully complex base of gravelly soil tones, cigar ash and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and wide open, with a lovely core, fine balance and grip, melting tannins and a long, refined perfectly poised finish. A beautiful example of the vintage. Drink between 2016-2040." (08/2016)

2003 Ausone, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Ausone, St-Emilion (100RP, 96WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Amazing! The limestone soils of Ausone appear to have been the perfect foil for resisting the extreme heat and drought of June, July and August, 2003. This black/purple-colored effort boasts a glorious nose of violets, truffles, lead pencil shavings, blueberry and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied with staggering concentration, a voluptuous texture, low acidity and well-integrated, melted tannins, this deep, multidimensional, profound Bordeaux is beginning to drink exceptionally well. It should continue to do so for another two decades or more. (RP)" (08/2014)

1999 Monbousquet, St-Emilion (6L)
Bid on this 6L-bottle of 1999 Monbousquet, St-Emilion (6L) (94RP, 91ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 Monbousquet exhibits a port-like bouquet of super-ripe black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with scents of coffee, tobacco, and vanilla. Tipping the scales at a whopping 14% alcohol (extremely high for Bordeaux), this wine, which spends 18 months in 100% new oak and is bottled unfined and unfiltered, is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was cropped at an amazingly low 30 hectoliters per hectare. It possesses an amazing texture, a mid-palate that you could get lost in, and a sensational 40-45 second finish. The exotic aromas, incredible texture, and abundant fruit are reminiscent of Pomerol's renowned micro-cuvee, Le Pin. The 1999 is even better from bottle than it was from cask. It is a remarkable effort for the vintage. (RP)" (04/2002)

2005 de Fonbel, St-Émilion
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 de Fonbel, St-Émilion (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A sleeper of the vintage, Ausone’s proprietor, Alain Vauthier, produces this beautiful St.-Emilion. It possesses a sumptuous bouquet of crushed rocks, incense, raspberries, boysenberries, and a touch of cherries. Some earthiness intrudes on the palate, but it adds complexity and nuance rather than detracting from the wine’s beautiful fruit. Medium to full-bodied, with admirable elegance and purity as well as ripe tannin, this beauty can be enjoyed over the next 15+ years. (RP)" (04/2008)

2005 Sanctus, St. Emilion
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Sanctus, St. Emilion (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a special 7.5 acre parcel culled from the Bienfaisance vineyard, this 1,000-case cuvee is dominated by its Merlot component (the blend also includes some Cabernet Franc). As are most of St.-Emilion’s garigiste wines, it is given a Burgundian-like treatment of pre-fermentation cold maceration, malolactic in barrel, aging on its lees, and little clarification, all designed to accentuate the terroir, and enhance the wine’s texture and perfume. The stunningly perfumed 2005 offers up notions of toast, black cherry jam, blackberries, espresso roast, white chocolate, and juicy meat. It is full-bodied as well as opulent for the vintage, with a gorgeous texture, and a long, 35+ second finish. Consume it over the next 15 or more years. Drink through 2023. (RP)" (04/2008)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Pavie, St-Emilion (100JD, 100RP, 97DC, 97VN, 97WS, 95JS, 93ST, 93WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Just beginning to come around and strut its enormous potential, this wine at age 15 has been evolving like a glacier. The wine has an inky, opaque, plum/purple color and a stunningly rich nose of mulberries, bramble berries, blackberries, licorice and incense as well as touches of toast and graphite. Fabulously concentrated and full-bodied, with a multidimensional mouthfeel, this profound Pavie is in mid-adolescence. It should evolve and continue to drink well for at least another 30-40 years. This is clearly the first compelling effort made by the Perse family. (RP)" (08/2015)
